Moontide Page 30

by Amanda V. Shane

She was almost afraid to look because of what she’d seen before but, in the light that was shining down from the ceiling, he was full on glorious male from a long lost era of warriors and heroes. His jaw line was strong, the bones of his face chiseled. Full lips tilted at a sardonic angle that made her wonder what he was thinking and also if they were as soft as they looked. With that thought, her eyes jumped up to his and it was like staring into two jade green gems. That band or crown or whatever rode low around his forehead, framing his eyes to perfection. They were lined black with something. She never even wore makeup herself and had never thought of it being attractive on a man but this guy was pure rock star, no matter what he did, so she supposed it didn’t matter. The effect made his green eyes stand out even more, as menacing as they were beautiful. They held her full unwavering attention until they sparkled and crinkled at the corners.

Kay shook herself out of her trance enough to realize that her vision man was smiling…and staring…at her. She thought no one could see her! The other disconcerting thing was that she could suddenly feel the tiles of the floor under her feet. She was no longer hovering and it made everything feel all too real.

“Are you a present?” He asked.

Kay looked side to side and then behind her. There was no one else around.

He crossed his arms and lifted his eyebrow at her, waiting for an answer.

“Did one of my brothers send you,” he went on, “Gadeiros maybe? He’s always warring and pillaging foreign lands. Could it be that he means to share some of his spoils with his favorite sibling?”

She had no voice. She opened her mouth several times to speak but no sound would come out. Nor could she move, she was stuck in place. What kind of messed up dream was this?

“Still no answer, de amma? Perhaps you come from a crude culture where manners are not yet used and will have to be taught them by the king?”

His large hands curled in mid-air in front of him and his fingertips pointed back at his chest as he said this. Now there was no question who he was.

His voice sounded stern but mocking at the same time and she couldn’t imagine what he meant. But his smile widened over a straight white row of teeth after he spoke and a tingle went up her spine. Then he started to move toward her. He lowered his head like a predator and she trembled but still couldn’t run away. He stopped right in front of her until all she could see was his chest and she had to drop her head back to look up at him.

“Don’t worry de amma,” he said and brought his hand up to brush his knuckles down the side of her face, “if you are a good little student, you will like my lessons very much.”
