iPRIMAL. All operatives are issued with an iPRIMAL, a smartphone or tablet with advanced capabilities to support clandestine operations. It appears to be a regular device but a hidden menu accesses bespoke capabilities including: duress mode, stealth surveillance which enables audio, visual, and location tracking, self-destruct, and fire support integration into PRIMAL’s air, direct, and indirect weapon systems.
When the iPRIMAL is not available other devices may be issued. For instance in PRIMAL Fury when Bishop and Saneh infiltrate a human-trafficking syndicate they anticipate their phones will be confiscated. Saneh deploys with an iPod that functions as a tracking device and duress beacon. Bishop is issued with Ray-Ban glasses that contain a miniature camera. The purpose of the glasses was to capture images of persons of interest for future targeting.

CAT Suit. PRIMAL operatives favor stealth and guile when neutralizing their enemies however high-intensity combat is sometimes unavoidable. When a team is anticipating combat at close quarters they have access to the latest in protective wear and night vision. Usually used by the Critical Assault Team, the ‘CAT Suit’ consists of carbon nanotube and graphene armor that provides lightweight, full body protection. The full-face helmet also contains a respirator and enhances the senses with integrated night vision and active hearing protection. A heads-up-display (HUD) inside the helmet is used to aim firearms when linked to a digital sight. Additionally the HUD displays information from the iPRIMAL including the location of other operatives, maps, and feeds from remote cameras or UAVs.
Drones. Ever since I employed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or ‘drones’ in Afghanistan they’ve been a technology I’ve followed closely. Drones feature heavily in PRIMAL. In PRIMAL Unleashed disposable Sentry drones are launched from the Pain Train. PRIMAL Vengeance sees a customized Switchblade ‘suicide drone’ being used in a surveillance and attack role. In PRIMAL Fury a quadcopter maps an enemy building which enables the building of a 3D model for planning purposes. Mitch modifies a toy quadcopter in PRIMAL Reckoning and uses it to hack a computer network.

FUTURE
So what does the future hold for PRIMAL? As you can see from the covers above, PRIMAL Reckoning is not the last PRIMAL story. There will always be injustice, and corruption that needs to be dealt with. Expect more original weapon and equipment concepts. Fresh operatives will be recruited as the PRIMAL team takes casualties. And as always there is the threat of discovery by government intelligence agencies, or any number of PRIMAL’s adversaries.
