Spooky Twisties II

The girls waited for the wind to die down, but nothing happened. “I don’t think it’s working,” shouted Amy.

Then Lindsay yelled, “The mirror! We have to find the mirror! Remember, she looked at her reflection and it was the mirror that captured her corrupted soul, and cracked.”

Walking around the area, they searched for the mirror. Suddenly, they heard a hissing sound. Lifting their heads they watched as a ghostly eerie transparent shape materialized in front of them. Mrs. Succubus’ evil eyes glared at the girls, and in a cackling voice she said, “I’ve come back to take you both. You cannot get rid of me. I will start with the one that got away from me first.”

With that, Mrs. Succubus’ ghostly form hovered directly in front of Amy. In an instant, Amy’s body rose off the ground. Paralyzed and unable to move, she cried, “Help me, Lindsay! She has some kind of spell over me. I can’t move.”

“Hang in there.” Lindsay cried out. “I’m trying to find the mirror.”

Lindsay peered through Mrs. Succubus’ shape, and saw shiny pieces of glass laying on the ground. Running as fast as she could, she leaped through the ghost, feeling a bitter chill saturate her bones.

Bending down, she carefully picked up the glass mirror pieces, and put them in the magic bag. Mrs. Succubus’ trance on Amy weakened, and Amy dropped back to the ground. When Lindsay put the last piece of the mirror into the bag, they both said in unison, “Forever now…you are doomed to stay…in a place…that’s far away. No more danger…can you do…as your spirit now…is broke in two.”

As soon as the words ended, a flash of light came down from the sky and split Mrs. Succubus’ ghostly form in two, vanishing it from sight. The wind stopped blowing, and the air became peaceful. All that remained was the full moon’s light.

“We did it!” yelled Amy. “We killed a ghost! All we need to do now is bury the bag under a tree.”

With the silver fork, and broken mirror pieces in the bag, they buried the bag at the base of a nearby tree and covered the hole.

“All right, let’s get back home. I’ve had enough excitement for one night.”

Lindsay and Amy started walking away when they heard barking. Turning around, they saw a dog in the moonlight, digging where they had just buried the bag.

“Hey!” screamed Amy. “Leave that alone! Get Away! Leave it!”

Before Amy and Lindsay could get back to the tree, the dog tore off running in the opposite direction with the bag in its mouth. The girls gave chase, but soon lost sight of the animal. They heard the muted roar of thunder in the distance, causing chills down their spines as they exchanged alarmed glances.

  About the Author

I've lived my entire life in the rolling hills and three rivers of western Pennsylvania and the majority of my working years were as a Systems Engineer for a large corporation. When my sons were born, I took a hiatus from work, and tutored math and reading while being a substitute teacher in local schools. I returned to the workforce and retired a few years ago.

I've always enjoyed reading authors of the macabre, and maybe watched a few too many psychological thriller TV series with unexpected twists when I was younger. This probably led me to my Spooky Twisties series, which began with one story about a group of kids that go out to play their annual game of ghosts in the graveyard. This story eventually sparked others and became the Spooky Twisties Series.
