“I knew what I was back then. She’s the sister that I never had.” I would always have Olivia in my life, no matter what. “I haven’t spoken too much to my sister. She moved with my Dad to California when my parents divorced, and we grew apart. I suspect they’re not fans of my lifestyle since he’s a conservative asshole. My mom is great about it and chose a man that would support me when she remarried.”
“My mom and sister are amazing. We’re so close.” Dane smiled at me, and I pressed up to kiss him. I wanted to bring him home to meet Mom and Chad, and that thought surprised me. I never went that far with anybody.
“There’s not a lot of room on this couch,” I said, and he nodded with a rueful smile. “Want to go to my room? Just to keep this talk going. No pressure.” I would happily rip his clothes off and take him in that bed, but I didn’t want to pressure him. What just happened between us was intense enough for a while.
“I don’t have practice tomorrow morning. I usually jog in the morning.” He seemed to be thinking out loud, and I let him. “Sure. I like being with you.”
“Good,” I said and kissed him again, sliding my hands into his soft hair.
We moved to my room and collapsed on my bed once we took turns cleaning up in the attached bathroom. I changed into some lounge pants and a fitted t-shirt, offering Dane the same. I was in shape, but he was much bigger, and I knew they wouldn’t fit. He thanked me but said he was fine and merely unbuttoned his jeans before settling back against the pillows. I turned on the TV and asked if he wanted to watch something in particular.
We found a new movie and cuddled together in the bed. We talked more about our lives. We kissed a lot. I woke up a few hours later to find the early sun peeking through the blinds and glanced over to see Dane beside me. We did nothing more than a kiss after the incident on the couch, yet I felt like everything was perfect in my life. I remembered that he liked to run in the morning and considered waking him up for several moments.
I kissed him softly, and Dane stirred beside me. He opened his eyes and jumped back with wide eyes, hitting the wall in his surprise. “I’m sorry. I wanted to wake you up gently, and your mouth was right there.”
Dane wiped his lips and blinked several times. ‘I didn’t mean to fall asleep here. What time is it?” He asked in a rough voice, and I reached for my phone.
“Four-thirty,” I replied, and he nodded before dropping back to his pillow. “When do you jog?”
“Between five and six, depending on the day.” He sounded tired, and I fought the urge to touch him. “Your bed is fucking comfortable.”
“I know.” I grinned, remembering the day I picked it when I got this apartment after my first year in college.
“I have this old one at my place. I brought it from home, and since I feel like I’m hardly there, I deal with it.” He shrugged with one shoulder, and I felt bad for him. “It’s not even a financial thing.”
“You’re welcome to stay here anytime you want,” I spoke low, and his eyes locked with mine.
He decided to head home for a run, and I watched him leave my bedroom after a soft kiss. The lock on the door could be done on the inside and pulled closed, and I played back the night as it clicked. I wondered if he would be back after my bold invitation. I meant it. He just looked as though it freaked him out a bit. There was a chance that things happened faster than planned, but it couldn’t be helped now.
Tonight was pizza and movie night with Olivia. We always decided last-minute which house to have it at, but it was a tradition for us at the beginning of the week. We caught up on things and just spent time together. I needed it to talk over this situation with Dane and see where my head was at right now.
Chapter Four
Dane
When I got back from my run the morning after Lance’s apartment, I got a little shit from my roommates. They were asking me where I was and who the lucky girl was. I stayed with guys from the team that I wasn’t overly close to. We got along fine, but I didn’t tell them my secrets, nor did I bring my sex life home with me. I told them off and took a shower before running some errands before the gym at night.
I wondered what Lance was doing tonight as I headed home. I’d been invited to meet up with James and some of the guys for dinner but turned them down. I was still tired from last night and thought a little studying before bed might be a good idea. I still had some time left in school, and that was one of my priorities. I wondered how much of one I wanted to make Lance in my life and shivered at the memory of cumming against his cock. I made a mess of my boxers and still slept there. I knew I wouldn’t fit into anything he offered me and going home was the last thing I wanted to do. His bed was so fucking comfortable.
I studied for a couple of tests and relaxed against my pillows with music playing in the background. Normally, this relaxed me and gave me the downtime that I needed. Tonight, I kept thinking about Lance. I grabbed my phone during yet another break and stared at it for a moment before sending him a message.
Just wanted to check in and say hi. What are you up to tonight?
Olivia is over for movie night. Want to stop by?
I considered it but knew how close they were. I felt a hint of jealousy over their close emotional relationship though I knew it was foolish. I had no claim on him when it came to women or men, and that wasn’t my style to begin with.
I’m getting some studying in tonight, so I’ll pass. I just wanted to see how you were. I’ll text you tomorrow.
Looking forward to it.
I set the phone down and stretched, rising to get something to drink before I resumed studying.
The week was full of classes and hockey. I considered everything I did as far as an exercise to be involved with hockey since it was for the sport and my future with it. That all took a lot of time, and when we played on Friday night, I realized how quickly time passed. Lance and Olivia were coming to the game with Polly, and I kept scanning the seats for them while we practiced some drills before the game began. “Who are you looking for?” James asked beside me as I searched for an answer.
“A buddy was thinking of coming. It was up in the air, but I’d like to see him.” My mom and sister lived far enough away that they couldn’t get out here too often, so I avoided that lie.
“Anyone I know?” He pressed, and I shot the puck into the center of the goal as our star goalie flipped me off with a smile. I laughed and turned to skate away as if I didn’t hear the question. I was subtle about looking from then on and nodded my head at Lance as I met his eyes. The heat in them made me shudder, and I glanced over as I heard the coach call my name.
The game was fast paced from the start. I worked closely with James, and we managed a couple of goals before the other team got one in. We met up at the bench and struggled for a third goal until the bell sounded to tell us to take a break. I skated to the bench and wiped my face before looking up at Lance. He was smiling, and I smiled before following the team to the locker room.
We ended up winning the game ahead by two goals. The crowd lost their minds, and the team celebrated for a moment at the bench before waving to the fans. We showered and dressed in slacks and button-up shirts for the interviews following the game. I knew everyone was headed to The Table and hoped that Lance would be there when I arrived. I had to stay for about half an hour past the other guys and hurried over in my car.
The bar was packed when I arrived. The music played over the speakers and voices filled the air. I spotted the team and headed their way, still looking for Lance. James was at the bar so that meant that Polly might not be there yet and she’d been sitting with Lance and Olivia.
I needed to calm the hell down. I didn’t let people get to me this way.
People clapped me on the shoulder and congratulated me on the win. I smiled back and thanked them as I finally reached the guys. “Great job tonight, D.”
“Thanks,” I said, returning his high five. He handed me a beer and told me to take my time with it, knowing th
at it would be my only one. I leaned back against the wood and listened to everyone talk as I spotted red hair. Two people followed, and I grinned as Lance met my gaze. They just became part of the group, and I laughed with Olivia as much as I did with him. It seemed like we were all becoming friends. I stayed for a couple of hours and left after Olivia took Lance home. We already planned to meet at his place, and I drove a little faster with that in mind. I parked and noted the light in his window before hopping out and walking across the parking lot. I checked a few times to make sure nobody would see me before tapping on his door.
“Great game,” he said when he opened the door to let me in. “I grabbed some food on the way home. Want some?”
We sat on the couch and ate Chinese food as I swore to myself, I’d take an extra-long run tomorrow. We watched a late-night show, and I explained a bit more of the game to him as he asked questions. I could see a hockey fan in the making and always liked that. He nodded as I told about rules and penalties, something I got a few of throughout the season. It made me a well-rounded player, according to coaches and scouts.
When the food was in the fridge for later, I cupped Lance’s face and kissed him. I had been thinking about that all day and his groan assured me that he had as well. Our teeth crashed before tongues met and I knew that I’d be staying here tonight. Everything seemed to happen faster, and our shirts disappeared onto the floor before I kissed his neck. He moaned as I dragged my teeth across his skin and he slipped a hand down my chest, over my abs and pants. I was hard as hell for him and jerked forward, needing more. I kissed down to his shoulder and pressed him back to take his nipple into my mouth. I knew he liked it by the way he writhed underneath me and bit as he cried out my name. His hips rose and pressed against my thigh, showing me how much he wanted me. I kissed him as he jerked against me, seeking another release. His whimpers were so hot as he fell over the edge, clinging to my shoulders and hair.
“I love making you do that,” I told him as he dropped with closed eyes. “I want to make you do it in so many other ways.” His eyes widened as he looked at me, and I pressed my lips together. “Come to bed with me.”
Once there, he removed my pants and pushed me to the bed before crawling over me. I watched in wonder as he kissed my skin and then took me into his mouth. “Oh, fuck,” I breathed as he sucked slowly down, making me feel incredible. I gripped his hair as he moved down, tightening his warm mouth around me. I held him there as he moved, finally rising to meet him as I felt the pressure of my coming release. “I’m close,” I warned as I let go of his hair so he could pull back. Instead, he sucked harder, and I cried his name as I shot deep into his throat. I rocked into him before gasping and dropping my head back against the mattress.
Lance moved beside me and breathed in as he rested on his side. We both remained silent as I caught my breath, and I felt him take my hand in his. “You looked good out there tonight, Dane.”
“I’ll keep it up if you treat me like that after every game,” I laughed as I turned my head to look at him. He got water for us and cleaned up before returning to bed in boxers, smiling as he glanced at me under the covers.
“Staying?” He asked shyly as a flush covered his neck and face.
“If you don’t mind. I kind of like the bed.” I teased him as Lance raised a brow at me. He slipped under the sheet to join me, and we moved together to kiss at the same time. We ended up with Lance under me, and I reached down to slide my hand under the cotton. “I like this, too. Mind if I return the favor?” He just stared at me, gorgeous and wanting before I slid the boxers down his legs. He was long and thick, and I moved down to suck him inside of my mouth. I knew as I tasted him that this was more than a night in his bed. I rocked into him as he thrust to meet me, gripping his hips and any other part of him that I could touch. He came, and I swallowed every drop before kissing up his body. He kissed me when I was above him, and I felt him pull me closer as our tongues danced together.
We talked until we fell asleep, both keeping it light. I know what I was feeling, and I suspected that Lance was overwhelmed as well. I did hold him as his breath evened out and finally closed my eyes for the night.
I did jog the following morning and grabbed a shower before class. I knew Lance was at school all day and I had practice later. The weeks might be tough as far as getting together, but we’d work it out. I was used to being busy and having someone in my life to add to that was different for me. We were also traveling this weekend for a game, and I’d be away. I managed to avoid letting anyone know where I was overnight again and made my way quietly there the nights I got to sleep in a bit.
At this point, I’d managed to check out Lance’s social media to tell me just a little more about the man I was falling for. There were lots of pictures of him with Olivia and with groups of people out at clubs and bars. He was gorgeous in every single one, and I stared for a beat longer than was necessary. Was I ready to be in those pictures with him? I appreciated that Lance wasn’t flashy about his sexuality as much as the fact that he wasn’t demanding me to that way myself.
I left on the bus with the team Friday night for the three-hour drive. Our game was late Saturday morning, and we were going to stay the night in a hotel so we could be ready for it. I watched the lights of the city fade away before turning on some music and closing my eyes as I leaned back. I always roomed with James, and while I preferred him over one of the others, I needed some alone time. I dozed for the entire drive and walked in last as we checked into the hotel. We grabbed dinner as a team, and some of the guys discussed seeing a movie before settling in for the night. I turned them down, telling them I was beat. I told James that I’d see him in the room and turned to walk down the main road to our hotel, swiping my card and walking inside. I stood and took in the silence, thinking more about Lance as I sat on the bed closest to the door. It was usually mine since James was a superstitious guy, and I sighed as I dropped my head back.
It was still early. I could send Lance a message, and we could chat for a bit. The guys would be out for a couple of hours, and I wasn’t as tired as I pretended to be. I reached into my pocket for my phone and pulled up his number, thinking over the greeting that I sent. I knew that he meant a lot to me, but I wasn’t ready to tell him yet. I kept it casual, and he responded in a few minutes, saying he was out to a late dinner with Olivia. I was secretly relieved that he hung out with his best girlfriend more than other guys since he was fucking gorgeous. I wasn’t stupid enough to think that a guy like him didn’t have a past, but I preferred being exclusive. Lance asked what I was doing, and I told him, resting against the pillows. Lance asked where the game was, and I reminded him as he went silent for a few moments.
My phone rang, and I smiled as I saw his name. I answered, and Lance announced that they would drive to the game in the morning if I could manage to get some tickets and I assured him that I would. He thanked me, and we kept the call brief so he could return to Olivia, even though we both wanted to take things up a notch. I had not had phone sex in the past nor taken it too far in a text, but I wanted to do everything with Lance. I hung up and took a long shower, jerking off under the weak spray before climbing into bed. We had to be up early tomorrow to practice, and I needed to get some rest.
Chapter Five
Lance
I headed home late and tried to go to bed. We were leaving at nine, and I should get some sleep, but I was all kinds of wound up. Just hearing Dane’s voice had me heated and I ended up jerking off into my boxers before falling asleep.
I took a shower after a few hours’ sleep and dressed in worn jeans and a team hoodie that Olivia handed to me when she arrived. She told me that Polly gave it to her, and I slipped it on before getting into her car. We had time to grab some breakfast before making the drive, and I sipped my to-go cup of coffee as I leaned back in the seat.
“How does it feel to be the player's boyfriend?” Olivia teased me as I shot her a glance.
“That’s a bit too
serious,” I replied as she laughed.
“How? You’ve spent a few nights with him.” She argued as I rolled my eyes.
“Just messing around. He hasn’t proposed or anything.” I laughed, and she pressed down on the gas to pass a car.
“So full of shit,” Olivia murmured, and I chuckled. I looked forward to the small cities scattered along the freeway, feeling the anticipation building up in me. I knew that she was right, and I wanted Dane all to myself. It was just that we weren’t even out in the open as a couple dating much less being in a relationship. We wouldn’t touch today at all, but I knew the looks we’d share would be heated. I wanted him in my bed as soon as he was home and I might not stop until I claimed him.
We pulled into the stadium along with several other cars and parked after paying the small fee. We got out and stretched before heading in with the crowd to the will-call, standing in a long line until the young college girl was handing us tickets. We stopped by the snack bar for some drinks and snacks before finding the seats just behind the player bench. “It pays to be involved with someone on the team. Damn,” Olivia murmured as she looked around before sliding into her seat. We were about three rows back and had a great view of what would be an actual game in a few minutes. I took in the atmosphere and recognized that I was addicted to this. I was addicted to Dane, both on and off the ice.
The teams came out with James leading the first group as they skated smoothly over the ice. I searched for Dane, seeing his hair blowing in the fresh air as he laughed at something. They started to shoot pucks at their goalie, and I watched intently as his shoulders flexed. “Fucking hell,” I muttered as Olivia laughed at me.
“There’s Polly!” She raised her hand in the air to wave, and I smiled as Polly joined us. She smiled as she hugged me, and I kissed her cheek before moving to Olivia. Her seat was beside Olivia, and she sat down, settling in as she looked toward the rink.
“Fancy meeting you here,” she told me as she smiled widely at me. “Driving to the away games means it’s serious, you know.”
