Reasons of Evil Page 11

Jason continued running, turning at the points where he thought he was about to hit a wall. He knew that he couldn’t afford to be in this situation any longer. Soon, the entire room will be filled by the pillars, leaving Jason with no space to move.

He had no other choice but to gamble on what he had to do. He turned to face where he thought a pillar was and threw his sword towards it. The darkness dispersed as the sword passed through, hitting the pillar. His gamble seemed to have paid off, as the sword easily went through the pillar.

The darkness around Jason attempted to devour him, but he was able to recall his sword fast enough, which dispersed the darkness around him. He dashed towards the direction where the Harbinger of Death sat, cutting down the pillars of earth that stood in his way.

Jason knew that this was his last chance. If this attack failed, it would all be over for him.

From the start of the battle, Jason observed the way that his opponent attacked and defended.

He remembered every single detail, from the position of his opponent’s spells, to the pattern of spells that his opponent used. He used all of this knowledge to make this one attack count.

Jason’s body was filled with adrenalin. Time seemed to slow down as he calculated each and every movement he made. Every second that passed felt excruciating.

As soon as he deemed that the distance between him and the Harbinger of Death was enough, Jason threw his sword towards his opponent.

Jason hoped that his opponent would react the way he expected him to. At that moment, Jason’s heart was filled with anxiety. If the response was not what he expected, it was all over.

His mind became blank. The suspense was too much for him to handle. His heart was pleading to the higher powers to give him this chance to finish it.

As he observed his opponent’s actions, he saw a glimmer of hope.

The Harbinger of Death waved his hand. It was the same gesture he made when he was about to cast a spell.

Between Jason’s sword and his opponent, a wall of earth rose from the ground. Jason still perceived his surroundings in slow motion. His heart was beating as fast as humanly possible. The gods have given him this chance.

His anxiety was immediately washed away. He was now fully concentrated on using the opportunity given to him at its fullest. The Harbinger of Death’s vision was now obstructed by the wall of earth.

Jason recalled his sword and quickly maneuvered around the wall of earth that stood between him and his opponent.

With his sword in hand, he was now in his opponent’s blind spot. He lunged forward, carefully aiming where the sword would land.

  *STAB*

He felt it. The feeling of a sword piercing a body.

In front of him, the Harbinger of Death sat still, with a sword piercing straight through his chest. Blood was oozing out from the wound. Jason had landed a hit on the Harbinger of Death’s vital point.

The Harbinger of Death’s expression turned gloomy. He could feel his death approaching.

“Finally… my cycle ends…”, the Harbinger of Death muttered with a shaky voice.

The black smoke which was surrounding his body started dispersing into the air, revealing the man’s naked body which was completely covered in red flesh.

Jason looked at his dying opponent. The Harbinger of Death’s reign has finally come to an end.

As Jason pulled out his sword from the Harbinger of Death’s chest, the crown on his opponent’s head fell on the ground.

“With this, humanity will finally find peace.” Jason told himself.

The Harbinger of Death heard him and couldn’t help but laugh. He then spoke his last words, and his body sat still on the throne, completely lifeless.

Jason heard the Harbinger of Death’s last words, but he took it as a dying man’s ramblings.

Despite his heavy injuries, he quickly made his way back towards Ravengard to announce the news of his victory.

Humanity has finally been freed from the fear that engulfed their hearts. The Demon Lord and the Harbinger of Death were no more.

Kingdoms all over Gladmont celebrated the hero’s victory. Monuments of the hero were erected everywhere around the world.

Jason believed that mankind has finally achieved peace.

  His happiness knew no bounds.

The people around him were filled with smiles.

But his happiness was only momentary.

“Dear hero! Will you accompany us in our crusade?”, the king of Ravengard’s voice echoed throughout the throne room. In front of him, Jason stood with a look of complete disbelief.

“We need to expand our horizons, and so we need more land and funds… but alas, none of the neighboring kingdoms are willing to help…”, the king continued, his face slowly forming a disgusting expression.

“For the sake of the people, we must procure what we need, even if we have to do it by force!”, the king exclaimed. His face no longer hid his evil intentions.

Jason’s thoughts was in shambles. Everything started playing back in his head.

From the start of the Harbinger of Death’s rule.

To his battle with the Harbinger of Death.

The peaceful fields of Gallohall that was under his rule.

Every word he said finally made sense.

The Harbinger of Death’s last words continued repeating in his head, slowly filling him with regret.

  “You’ve made a grave mistake.”
