"But there are people still alive," Mason said.
"And they will all die if you fail," Adam stated coolly. "I will not stand by idly and allow another war to happen. This planet will be inherited by my kind unless you succeed. Then you have my solemn word that Humanity will live on."
Mason grumbled.
"We don't have a choice, Mason," Jacob said. "It's this or death."
"I know," Mason growled. "Doesn't mean I have to like it."
"Gate activated," said the high-pitched voice.
A loud, low-pitched rumble reverberated throughout the room. A spherical distortion appeared in the center of the Gate.
"The Gate is open," the booming voice said. "Ready for transit."
"Remember," Adam said. "You fail, and everyone dies."
Jacob and Mason looked at each other and walked through the gate.
