“Oh, my,” Winnie said, her hand flying to the spot over her heart. “But that was so expensive.”
Terry shrugged. “Santa doesn’t care about that.”
“But … .”
“Leave him be,” I ordered. “He can’t argue on Santa’s behalf.”
Winnie’s eyes filled with tears as she nodded. “Girls, what do you say to Terry for helping Santa?”
Bay, Clove and Thistle swiveled in unison. “Thank you for being our favorite Santa,” they sang out in unison. “We love you.”
Terry’s cheeks colored as he shifted on the chair. “I … you’re welcome.”
“Now he leads by example,” Thistle said, poking my knee. “What did you get us?”
“I spent the week with you,” I reminded her. “We plowed. We spied. We made yellow and brown snow. We solved a case. We tortured Margaret. We cursed your mothers. We cooked. We watched Christmas movies. I bribed you. You blackmailed me. We ate a bunch of doughnuts, too. What more do you want?”
Thistle shrugged. “Just this.” She took me by surprise when she gave me a hug. I didn’t know what else to do, so I returned it. Thistle was all smiles as she pulled away. “I can lead by example, too.”
“You certainly can.”
“Oh, now my eyes are definitely going to leak,” Clove said.
I couldn’t help but smile. “Merry Christmas, you little monsters. Open your gifts.”
It was a merry Christmas indeed. I didn’t even want to deafen myself with Q-tips when the singing started.
That’s a win to me.

About the Author
I want to thank everyone who takes the time to read my novels. I have a particular brand of humor that isn’t for everyone – and I know that.
If you liked the book, please take a few minutes and leave a review. An independent author does it all on their own, and the reviews are helpful. I understand that my characters aren’t for everyone, though. There’s a lot of snark and sarcasm in my world – and I know some people don’t like that.
Special thanks go out to Heidi Bitsoli and Phil VanHulle for correcting the (numerous) errors that creep into a work of fiction.
If you’re interested in my future works, follow me on Facebook, Twitter or join my mailing list. I do not believe in spam. I only announce new releases or free promotions.
This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, places, events and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.
