“I told people a long time ago I saw the wisdom in those things when I first saw commuters in New York using them to commute.” Donald said.
“Well man, you got that right. You are preaching to the choir when it comes to my crew. I’m a prepper too, always have been in one way or another I guess you might say. Tell me in prepper speak Hogan what exactly it was about scooters that got you to grasp that concept when everybody else was regretting either spending their money on way too heavy bulletproof plates for their bug out packs or stocking up every kind of bullshit trade article or crappy survival gear they could think of?” Crick asked.
“Well there are many potential applications to use a scooter for in the event of a disaster. Besides point to point transportation, scooters could be used for a myriad of things.” Miranda said before starting to tick off a bunch.
Scouting and reconnaissance: Because of the potential to get around in a quiet and stealthy manner, a scooter could be a great recon vehicle. We chose the KickPed because it was much quieter than many other options out there.
Evasion: Now one thing we considered was in the event of a confrontation or to get as far away from a threat as fast as we could, that a scooter could offer a quick means of evading an aggressor or a fire or something. They also offer lots of options in assisting as an effective getaway in cities by traveling on sidewalks, through alleyways, etc.
Hunting and gathering: During difficult times we already knew that hunting and gathering food and water sources was the main method of survival we would be pursuing. In this case, a scooter could greatly increase the effectiveness of these efforts because speed in doing the task is essential. It is also possible that some distant resources could be utilized because of the additional capabilities offered by having a scooter.
Assisting others: One thing most people don’t consider is that rebuilding after a disaster often revolves around the efforts of an entire community and getting aid to others. If there is limited transportation available or if environmental conditions limit the use of conventional vehicles, a scooter could offer an opportunity to assist your neighbors and help rebuild the community.
“Me and Hogan considered these points and many others exploring our options and our budgets. We figured a scooter was the lightest most compact viable option to get out of dodge with that we could fit in our car’s trunk. Also he got around to my way of thinking that we would rather ride a scooter out of the chaos of traffic jams than strap on hiking boots and walk an unending number of miles to safety.” Miranda concluded.
“Well you certainly made some valid points, we are going to have to get around to hearing how you managed to get around this apocalypse so far.” Crick said.
But that’s another story….

Preppers Road March
A solar storm has just hit the world causing an EMP event. An emergency manager visiting Atlanta GA must find his way back home after this electromagnetic pulse has stranded him away from his vehicle and his beloved "bug out bag". With 180 miles to go to his destination, David must let his street smarts and survival skills kick in as food and water becomes scarce and societal breakdown proceeds at an unrelenting pace. An interesting and often funny cast of characters from the Deep South helps the displaced Prepper on his way, as he shares his knowledge of how to make do with common items in order to live another day. Ultimately, he acquires an old tractor and heads for home on a car-littered interstate. This is book one of the Prepper Trilogy.
BUG OUT! Preppers on the move!
Book two of the Prepper trilogy finds the disaster planner and emergency manager Dave faced with the choice of bugging out with his cohort of friends and family as he watches the societal collapse and demise of civilization around him after an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) solar storm has taken out the grid. A post apocalyptic fiction series that takes you through the trials and tribulations of survival after the predicted NASA 2012 solar super storm unravels the lives and lifestyles of a group of modern day survivalists. The preppers decide on a lake front bug out with bags in hand as well as a unique group of operating vehicles from a bobcat loader to a lawn tractor. Will they survive? Could you? Let us find out, and join the party down the desolate dystopian landscape of a new beginning in a world without lights or technology.
The Light in The Lake
Book three of the Prepper Trilogy finds our band of refugees from a solar storm safely moved into several lake cabins and trying to work on their short term and long term survival. The lake is a beautiful place for a survival retreat, but is it safe with roving groups of lake residents all looking for what meager food resources remain after an EMP
event has shut down society as we know it. Can society be recreated and restarted here, or will starvation and anarchy take over? Can a simple light in the lake be the solution to survival and the reconstruction of society, or is it merely a symbol of what has been and might be yet again?
