“My dear,” he continues. “Blake informed me of a misfortune you endured as a child.” He cuts a glare at Gianni. “I am, of course, dismayed I had not known sooner. This vileness would not have lived another day. So, I will do this favor for the one agreed upon by your husband. A debt fairly paid and never to be spoken of again.”
“My misfortune has turned into a fortune,” I say, glancing at Blake with a smile. “I just have a few loose ends to clean up,” I tell him.
“I will send my cleaner. He should be ...” Nico turns with a grin. “Ahh, there he is.”
A new man enters, greets Nico and then me and Blake. I know who this is. Most everyone in this town does. The two look similar, and it truly is a family business. I mean, I grew up here, so I know this. I study the man, noting his lighter features, lighter colored hair, green eyes, and a build similar to my husband's. He is quite striking.
“Let me introduce Icilio, or ‘Ice’ as we call him,” Nico introduces, and we all nod in acknowledgment.
I grin and hook my arm through Blake’s. “Tomorrow, Nico,” Blake tells him. “Che’Shun. My chef will fix you the most fabulous Italian meal. Then, we can commence with the—other—matter of business.”
Nico’s eyes seem to water a bit. “Thank you. I will be there.”
Nico turns to view the huddling, mewling mass of flesh. Ice wanders over, considering the mess, and Blake and I leave the laundry mat. I stand beside the Bentley and touch the blue stone on the ring, even as he touches the stone on my ring. These rings have opened up new avenues for us both.
I glance inside the laundry mat. “I was kind of looking forward to doing that myself,” I pout at him, my bottom lip out.
Blake grabs my pout with his lips and tugs. “You’re not doing much without me anymore. I get to be a part of it.”
“Is that a promise, Mr. Harland?” I put my hand on my hip.
He takes my hand from my hip and kisses the knuckles. “Definitely, Mrs. Harland.”
“And the mob ties?”
“Done deal. Like he said. He’s a good sort. He just wants what is best for his people. Like I do.”
He opens the Limo door for me, and I flash him my boobs as I get in. I squeak as he launches himself in on top of me and taps the partition to get moving. I tap Blake to get him moving.
I never thought my life would take this type of a turn, and I never thought I’d be happy. I thought happy was for Princesses.

For Marina, I wanted someone who fights her demons and learns to trust. Blake doesn’t take a front seat in this book as I wanted to focus on Marina, but I still like how his character turned out and, in essence, helped Marina grow and come into her own. Marina’s story sets up the next book, A Werewolf’s Kiss. I wanted to write a story where a woman who had suffered abuse was able to work through the issues of her past and overcome them.
*In the real world, I know it takes longer than a week. For this, I mean no disrespect to anyone who has suffered any type of abuse.
