“Sweetheart—you invented the word. I just wanted you to be sure of your feelings. Now you’re going to have to pay the price of loving me for the rest of your life.”

“Yes, Ray, darling,” she said with feigned meekness.

Rand burst into laughter before he rolled off the bed and helped her to her feet, impatient to embrace a loving future filled with her delightful brand of humor.

Life didn’t get better than this, his heart whispered when fifteen minutes later he heard the minister pronounce them man and wife and discovered Annabelle’s mouth lifting feverishly to meet his.

“Whenever your husband lets you up for air, may I be the first to kiss the blushing bride?”

Permeating her euphoric daze, Annabelle heard Gerard’s voice, then felt him cup her hot face in his hands as her husband let her go with obvious reluctance.

“I’ve dreamed about doing this for a long time, Mrs. Dunbarton,” Gerard whispered before bestowing a tender kiss on her lips. “You just never let me get close enough until now.”

“One of these days I’ll be kissing you at your own wedding,” she whispered back, so full of joy she was floating.

“All right, you two. Break it up. It’s my turn,” Phil horned in. He was second in the long line of PI’s from the agency anxious to congratulate them.

After Cal and Diana took their turn, Roman pulled her into his arms and gave her a long, hard hug. “I guess by now you’ve figured out I aided and abetted your husband. It was for your own good, Annabelle. You know that now, don’t you.”

  She could only nod.

“You do great work together. Shall I tell him he can come on board permanently? It’s up to you.”

“I never want him out of my sight. Is that answer enough for you?”

Roman chuckled before kissing her cheek. “Enjoy your honeymoon, then hurry back. There’ll be some challenging new cases. You and Rand can have your pick.”

“I’m so happy,” she cried, clinging to his shoulder.

“I know,” he murmured, reading her mind. “The same thing happened to Brittany and me. You feel like you’ve died and gone to heaven.”

“Amen,” Rand interjected huskily, pulling Annabelle back in his arms where she’d always belonged.

  Dear Janet—

Greetings from Minorca! I have to tell you this paradise beats Florida hands down. Haven’t done any reading. It seems I now have the lifetime job of keeping the big you-know-what happy. So far it hasn’t been a problem.

Did I ever tell you this is the job I always wanted? Am reopening the P file.

  Love,

  A.

P.S. When we get back, I’ve got plans to help you on your P file. I want you to experience this same kind of joy. Every woman should have the privilege of being as happy as Rand makes me.

  Love again,

  A.
