Breathing Black Page 34

by Piper Payne

“Delivery?” June and Austin said in unison.

“I figured I might as well go out with a bang,” I shrugged. “Since he is tracking me I made a package with my phone and a note that will be delivered to him when the clock strikes twelve. I paid Ricky, my UPS guy, to drive my exact route from Park City, to the bank, and then to Franklin’s office to drop it off. That way if he’s watching my GPS, he won’t be tipped off until the package arrives.”

“What does your letter say?” June asked in fear.

That was one of two notes I wrote this morning. Both I hated writing.

“There’s no turning back now. Let’s finish what they started.” June nodded her head in agreement. I admired her braveness because I knew which demons from her past she’d have to have to face.

In the search for vengeance or to find peace in our hearts, I realized we lost the days and nights to our enemies. They became the comfortable fear that prevented us from becoming more than we were. They held onto the greatest part of our soul and kept it from healing. And we let them.

  Until now.

Breathing Black touches on numerous subject matters that people struggle to deal with everyday. Larkin and June realized they needed help and couldn’t get healthy alone. You are not alone. No matter what problems you’re dealing with there are people out there that love and want to help you find a reason to keep living.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255) you’ll be connected to a skilled, trained counselor at a crisis center in your area, anytime 24/7.

RAINN: The National Sexual Assault Hotline (1-800-656-HOPE)

This book was created from my own past darkness and pain and somehow it turned into something eerily beautiful. I couldn’t have done it without the support, praise, and encouragement of my husband. When we met he truly saved me.

Thank you to my friends and beta readers who helped me find my voice and sculpt my manuscript into my twisted masterpiece: D. Natter, M. Sims, K. Miller, E. Hatch, J. Hailey, M. Wallick, H. Hill, M. Jenson, A. McFarland, A. Trujillo, K. Garrett, J. Rowan, W. Carstensen, and K. Broadhead.

The amazing James Ramsey for proofreading my MS. What would I do without you?! I am truly lucky to have met such a wonderful writer who inspired me to push the limits.

My brilliant editor, Max Dobson / The Polished Pen. I’m beyond grateful for everything you’ve done for me. Breathing Black would be a pile of unreadable garbage if it weren’t for you! Thank you for believing in me!

Sarah Hansen / Okay Creations you are a cover making genius!

Stephanie Low Designs for the beautiful feather and spacer design, you have an amazing talent I can’t wait for everyone to see what you’ve created! Find her on Etsy.

E.M. Tippetts Book Designs for the kick ass formatting and graphics.

And for those who will read this and share your love for my words my deepest and most humbling thank you. It will be because of you Larkin and her story will take flight.

My love for literature and writing is an addiction. My mind is continually telling stories and I have a queue of books I want to write being stacked up in my brain. I don’t know how to write pretty and perfect so I write perfectly flawed and unpredictable. Just like life.

I’m married to my best friend and I’m mother to three little miracles. I love going to farmers markets, bookstores, and long drives with my family in my ruby red Bronco. I also have an unhealthy love for makeup, Oreos, Halloween, queso dip, psychic readings, sushi, massages, and Redd’s Apple Ale.
