Thank God. So where is this going? I still haven’t moved a muscle.

“Tonight, I had a strong urge to do that to you. To grab you the minute you came through the door and beat the fuck out of you with my belt. To do more to you than I have ever done in the past. To bend you to my will and make you obey and be the way I say you should be.”

“Oh,” I say so quietly, I sound like a ten-year-old.

“I need some time. I don’t trust myself right now. Let me sit here while you sleep. I need to get control.”

“You are just going to sit there and watch me sleep?”

“Yes, Baby. Don’t you know that I am obsessed with you? Don’t you realize?”

My heart is bursting with his words. I am wet for some reason I can’t explain.“Liam, I love you. I am loyal to you above all others. I promise. I’m sorry I didn’t say it earlier. It was just so hard with Gypsy trusting me and all. But I swear to you. Never doubt me.”

“Better,” he says, but still doesn’t move.

“So, you still can’t come to bed?”

  “Not yet.”

“Even if I let you rough me up a little?”

“Jesus, Baby. Don’t say that shit. You have no idea about that world. Just go to sleep.” His hand goes to smooth his erection down immediately. I think he liked the idea, no matter what he says.

“I won’t break. I promise. You can do whatever you want to me.”

“Christ, Faith. Get in the bed now. Turn your back and go to sleep. Now.”

I do as he asks and feel wet and hot and bothered. I finally fall asleep alone and don’t wake up until it is daylight. Liam kisses me awake and we are both naked. I don’t remember the tee shirt coming off of me during the night, but it is long gone along with the panties. We whisper between kisses He assures me he is ok now. He says he only wishes he had last night recorded. He said the things I said to him were the hottest thing he ever heard. Better than any porn. I was his fantasy. His dream come true. I offer to do it all again on camera and he groans into my mouth.

We made it over another hurdle and the rest of the summer is smooth sailing. I do well in my classes two nights a week and real daytime college begins. I am a licensed driver now, and I even own a car. It is a cute little compact and I am in love with it. It is my baby. Liam played it off like it was no big deal, just hanging around the garage at the shop. But it is clearly new or almost new it has such low mileage and that new smell. Even though Liam pays my insurance and everything else, it is titled in my name as well as the tags.

It’s official, I am a kept woman. And I love it. My life is pretty perfect. No more fights or worries. I get all worked up sometimes when I think back to that night Liam said he wanted to hurt me. He isn’t the only one that gets off on that memory. Sometimes I want to provoke a fight and push him that far, but I stop.

I am not that crazy. Yet.

Our sex life is different levels every day. It goes from wild, dark, dangerous stuff, to Liam lying in bed with me, making me say words I never wanted to say before like cock and fuck. He teases me relentlessly.

I find it amazing that I can have any shyness after all of the things I have done with this man. Life is great.

I love Maria even more than ever. We are very close now and important to each other. I am even close to her husband. They are like adoptive parents to me. Something strange is happening with Gypsy. She is secretive, and that is not like her at all. She usually over shares. The banker’s son is history. I don’t know the details of that either. She just said she was over him. So Megan lives the life of a wife and stays home a lot, even though she still has a long time before the baby comes.

I never think of my family and that makes me guilty. That girl I was back then is so far from who I am now. Liam lets me be myself. He doesn’t press me to be a biker chick. I still have deep-seeded beliefs about right and wrong from my upbringing or the bible or whatever, and that causes a conflict with Liam’s club business. I don’t try to convert or change Liam and he doesn’t try to convert or change me. Liam has only been out all night, or out of town a very few times. He always has Maria and her husband stay with me at the house. I am fine alone, but Liam insists. We are working. We are closer than I ever thought was possible. This is true happiness.

We head to the clubhouse one Saturday afternoon as we usually do. Liam asks me a few questions about Gypsy and I am honest when I say I have no clue what is going on with her. She goes to school every day even though she hates it. We have no classes together now, but meet up and talk every day. He doesn’t tell me why he asks or what is going on with that, but I sense something is wrong somewhere.

I am so close to the ladies at the club; it is always good to go there. I am even good friends with Lydia now, even though I assume Stacy has been banned since she hasn’t been back in over a month. As usual, the ladies are all sitting together away from the guys. I join them and see Jury corner Liam and they walk towards the garages together. Hmm.

We are laughing, and of course, talking about food and what is cooking for supper, when a commotion breaks out of the garage into the parking lot. Liam is in a fight with the Mike guy and it isn’t just horseplay. It is a real fight. We are all on our feet now, and Gypsy’s mom steps off the porch and goes out to the fight. I see Jury come stumbling out of the garage weakly, looking like he has been beaten to a pulp.

What is going on? Liam finally has Mike on the ground and finished. Gypsy’s mom is helping Jury walk, and the entire club is involved in whatever the scuffle was about. Liam growls something out to the guys and comes towards the clubhouse. He has some cuts and bruises on his face and his knuckles as he passes us and walks straight into the clubhouse. I follow him to our room. His hands look a mess as he unlocks our door. I go to the big kitchen for ice and return to the now-unlocked room. Liam is in the bathroom. I have the ice ready when he returns and asks if I would mind making a pot of coffee. He ices his knuckles and sits at the table to wait for the coffee.

  “Are you ok, Liam?”

“Yeah. You know I like a good fight.”

“Ok. I know it’s club business so I can’t ask about it, but…”

He cuts me off. “It isn’t club business. It’s your friend. Mike has been fucking around with her since she was like, thirteen. We had taken care of the problem and I felt like she grew out of it, but we were wrong. They have been together night and day for over a month.”

“Oh no. I swear I had no idea.”

“Jury has been spying around trying to catch them. He was ready to have it out with the two of them today. Turns out, they spent the night in a hotel last night a few towns over.”

  “Oh. What happens now?”

“I’m not sure. Tempers got heated and instead of taking it to church to discipline Mike, all hell broke loose.”

  “She’s of age, Liam.”

He presses his mouth and looks unhappy about my answer. I pour his coffee and there is a knock. Liam gets up and opens the door to a crying Gypsy.

“I need to see Faith,” she says and her eyes are full of hate for Liam. He just opens the door all of the way to let her walk in.

We hug and I am not sure what to say. I am on her side, no matter what Liam says.

“I’m leaving. I mean, we are leaving,” she says.

  “Wait. What?”

“Mike and I are moving away. We are leaving.”

“You can’t leave. Your parents. The club. You can’t just leave Gypsy. What about school?” I plead.

“No one will let us be together here. He is willing to give up the club that he loves more than anything to be with me. So I can give up everything to be with him, too.”

“No!” Liam says, and Gypsy and I both drop our heads, too scared to say anything else.“Mike isn’t leaving the club. And neither are you. We can work it out. I can handle your folks. You just be sure this is what you want.” Liam walks out of the room.

Well that was a shock. He just almost killed Mike, and
now he is working it out for them?

Gypsy sits down and tells me all about her relationship with Mike. It started as a childhood crush on a handsome older guy. Then puberty and teen years, he flirted back and they became close when she was way too young. He took her virginity and she was totally in love with him. When her parents and the club found out, they promised to have him charged with child molestation. She was still a minor. The two of them promised to stay apart to avoid criminal prosecution. He got away with a severe beating from the club and sanctions from his share of profits. He was cruel to her and told her it was a game to him and she meant nothing. He flaunted other women in front of her to make her move on. The years since have been filled with quick, wildfire sex in a closet while a club party went on, or passionate kisses when no one was looking. Just stolen moments here and there. She loves him. Only him. I know how she feels. I just hope Mike is serious about her. These guys are pretty ruthless when it comes to sex.

Liam returns and asks her to go with him. They go to church for a meeting. Mike, Gypsy, her parents, Liam and only a couple of the club members. I am nervous for her. I sit in the big dining room with everyone and wait instead of helping get the supper on. It is well over an hour when they rejoin the rest of us. I guess everything is ok. Gypsy is the only one smiling ear to ear and that is all I care about.

We eat supper and go home shortly after. That was an exhausting afternoon, and Liam is pretty beat up. I am now used to seeing him bruised and battered. He is always getting into some kind of scrape. We are back in our house now, in our little bubble of happiness. I am waiting in bed when Liam finishes his shower and joins me. I tell him I am happy he fixed things for Gypsy so she could stay in her home and with her parents. She has such awesome parents and I can’t imagine leaving that closeness if I was her.

“Did you ever think the girl just wants to go against what they want for the heck of it?” he asks.

  “What do you mean?”

“She pulled this shit a long time ago, then the banker’s kid, now back to Mike. She thrives on trouble.”

“No. She told me the whole story behind her and Mike today. He was her first and only love. He took her virginity, Liam.”

“Maybe he didn’t “take” it. Maybe she gave it to him.”

“Ok. You know what I mean. When you guys broke it up back then, they both tried to see other people and forget each other but couldn’t. I think it is romantic.”

“I think she is a bit of a whore and he is a pedophile.”

“Ok. That was rude. Agree to disagree.”

“I’m no better. I am way too old to be in this deep with you.”

“Liam. Don’t start that,” I ask and bend to kiss his torn up hands. This leads to the distraction we needed.

It is late fall and I can feel winter is coming fast. Holidays are greatly celebrated in the club. The big meals are all eaten together and everyone is so excited to make plans. It will be a first for me. We didn’t celebrate much growing up. We of course had special services at church but no gifts or celebratory meals. I am counting the days. Meanwhile, all of the beautiful trees in the yard are an explosion of color and the place is more beautiful than ever. Liam and I are walking the land and enjoying the crisp air while Maria is makingour dinner. We keep making plans for changes to the yard and Liam shows me some fruit coming on his trees. A sheriff’s car slowly comes down the road in front of our house and we both watch it as it pulls into our drive. Liam looks angry but resigned as we both walk to the two deputies getting out of the car.

“What?” Liam snarls and I think it is unnecessary to be so rude.

  “Liam. Ma’am.” They nod.

“We got some information from another county. They found the truck belonging to Russell Malone.”

“What do you want?” Liam snarls.

“Well, it looks pretty clear that he is gone and we’re pretty sure you are the only one that knows what happened to him.”

“What?” I ask a little too loudly and upset looking from them to Liam and back again.

“Go inside, Faith,” Liam says, but I am determined not to be sent away like a child.

“No. I have the right to know what this is all about. What this means. What are you implying?” I ask the officers.

Liam takes a hold of my arm to maybe start to physically pull me away. I know he won’t force me in front of the law and I struggle out of his hold on me. He is pissed and the cops seem to enjoy it.

“What makes you think he is gone? Maybe the truck broke down or something?” I ask.

“Truck is fine. Keys in it and they started it and drove it. Truck is fine. Malone hasn’t touched his bank account or used his credit card in all this time. Since the very day you came home from the hospital in fact, Miss. He has disappeared off the face of the earth.”

Liam is tense and the police look at me like I am foolish to not see what they clearly see. I just shake my head. It can’t be. I mean, Liam has been with me every night since then. He couldn’t have.

“Maybe he ran off and is hiding. He knew the police wanted to arrest him for …what he did to me.” I can’t bring myself to say kidnapped or beaten or attempted rape.

“Not likely. With no connections and no money. It doesn’t seem likely.” He answers. Liam still stays silent.

“Liam?” I look up at him, wanting him to say something and still shaking my head no. It just can’t be. He is even more angry but his lips turn down in disappointment at me. It seems like I am asking for this in front of the cops.

“Is that all you have to say? If so get off my land.” Liam snarls at the cops. They just look at me. I am sick. I can’t believe this. I don’t want to believe this but I know it’s true. The police officers know it’s true. Oh my God. Liam. My Liam, who has laid by my side every night. No.

“We’ll be back.” He adds, “Soon.” As they both turn and go to their car, Liam stands like a giant bull with his arms crossed in front of him and stares at them as they leave.

I almost run to the house going inside through the kitchen door. Liam is right behind me. I feel tears rolling down my cheeks and I can’t control them.

“Faith! Stop! You do not talk to cops, Faith! Ever!” he yells as Maria just busies herself.

“Are you serious? You are upset that I spoke to a cop? That’s it?”

“You don’t want to start shit with me over this!”

“You’re right, Liam! I don’t want to start anything. I want to finish. You killed him. You did this. I don’t know who you are. I have been sleeping with a monster! I am finished. It’s over!”

“Fuck you! We have been more than sleeping with each other; don’t try to make out like this was nothing!”

“Oh my God, Liam. You miss the point every time I speak. Just let me go! Leave me alone! I am through.”

  “No. Fuck No!”

“I am finished. I am leaving. It isn’t up to you,” I say and hate my wobbly cry voice.

“You will never leave me until I am tired of you! Don’t try to pull this shit. It won’t work.”

I fake laugh at that. “You are delusional. I am out of here.”

Liam is so fast; he grabs me up by my arms and I see Maria move out of the corner of my eye. She is coming towards us and no longer pretending to be busy.

“Let me go, Liam. Just let me go.”

“Over this shit? Really? Yes, I fucking killed that bastard. He tried to kill you and almost succeeded. There wasn’t an inch of you that was unmarked or unbruised. I killed him very slowly and painfully and I would do it again, over and over.”

I can only gasp as I try to pull back out of his hold.

“This is me. You knew who I was before we started. I told you I had killed. You knew that. It is nothing to do with you.”

“Nothing to do with me? Are you joking? It has everything to do with me. You killed him for my revenge! I knew him. I was going to marry him. Don’t you see? This has everything to do with me.”

Liam cringes when I say that and shakes me by arms in a rage.“Don’t you fucking say that! Don’t you ever say that. You were never going to marry that son of a bitch!”

“You know what I mean. It would have never happened if you weren’t involved with me.”

“It would have never happened if he didn’t hurt you. It will happen again to anyone that hurts you.”

“God. Liam. Let me go. Just let me leave. It’s over.”

“Fuck no! You will not leave until I say. No!”
