She shook her head slightly, letting him know that throwing himself out the window was a really bad idea.
Then Holly wrapped her arm around his waist, and he didn't feel the need to go anywhere. His heart slowed, and his body relaxed. He was home right where he was on this couch.
Natalie blew him a kiss, gave him a wave and was gone. He waited for the pain to lance through him, but it never came. He felt the peace that Holly and Robert brought to him swell in his heart. He hoped that Natalie felt it as well. He would always love his Nat, but he was done pining for something that could never be. From now on he would live in the present with his female and his son.
He would always be a killer, but people had different facets of their lives. He could also be a good father and mate. He could love stronger than he fought. The two halves of him didn't need to mesh; he just needed to accept both for what they were, just as Holly had done. She loved him for who and what he was.
Robert yawned again and announced that he was going to bed. Hugs and kisses were exchanged, and Holly curled up against Aiden again after Robert left. Aiden gently traced over his bite mark on her neck that was healing up too quickly, as far as he was concerned. He wanted everyone to know she was his.
She was having a hard time with the death of Myla, but she was getting better everyday. He listened when Holly talked about her, and held her when she cried. He thought about that old adage of time healing all wounds. He still thought it was bullshit. People healed wounds, but you had to be open to letting others help you heal. Holly would eventually be able to accept her friend's death and move on.
Holly sighed again. "I love you," she said, staring into the night.
"I love you, too," he said strongly. The words he had been unable to say before rolled off his tongue easily. There wasn't any hesitancy. He was sure of his words, confident of his future, excited about his life and . . . his family.
As quickly as the wind had started, it stopped. Aiden looked out onto the forest floor at the peace the blizzard had left in its wake.
He hugged Holly again. She was his peace that had calmed the raging storm within him.
