“What did you call me, then?”
“A term I once heard used by a motivational speaker. ‘Midwife to destiny’. He said, ‘God, connect me to that person who will be my midwife to destiny.’ The brilliant sentiment stayed with me. God answers prayers. I thought it fit you, seeing as to how you are a midwife and Jason is my destiny.”
Esi smiled “Have I mentioned how beautiful you look?”
“Three times, but you can tell me again.”
“You look gorgeous and Jason will agree. Everything’s all set. Let’s go get you married.”
They walked out of the church’s classroom and met Ora’s stepfather standing just outside the door.
“Are you two finished talking?”
“We’ll never be done, but we’ll put it on hold for today.”
Without being coerced to, she’d invited her biological father to the wedding. Her mother had reported earlier that he sat in the front row, but her heart would only allow the man who had raised her as his child to escort her down the aisle.
The bridal march started and Esi glided down the aisle followed by the bride and her father.
When she reached the front and her hand rested in the crook of Jason’s elbow, her eyes teared up at the man she’d committed to be with for the rest of her life.
God’s choice for her had been patient enough to wait and help her find herself. She smiled at her destiny.
