SYLVIA:
I’ve always had a crush on Dalton Cole. He’s hot, built like a tank, a former cop, and he’s running for the vacant Judge’s seat. Unfortunately, he’s also my father’s best friend…
When everything went wrong, he was the only one that was there for me. He took me in his arms, told me everything was going to be okay, and then he put me over his knee to show me just how much he cared.
I need a man like that in my life.
I need Dalton Cole.
But Dalton needs something entirely different. The only way he’ll claim me as his own, is if I agree to become his Little Sylvia.
Prologue: Dalton Cole
“It’s good to see you again, Frank.” I said as I sat down across from my old partner, Frank Henderson.
“Good to see you too, Dalton.” Frank nodded. “What are you drinking?”
“Nothing yet, but it looks like you’ve got a head start.” My eyes scanned three empty beer bottles to his right and the one in his hand.
“I got here a little early. You want a beer?” He asked.
“Yeah, that sounds good.” I motioned to one of the girls roaming around serving customers.
“Hi, can help you gentleman?” She leaned over so we could see her tits hanging out of her shirt—tits equal tips in her profession.
“Go ahead and just bring us a fucking bucket of beers. Bud Light, I guess since that is what Frank’s drinking” I said, tossing money on the table.
“Right away, sir.” She took the money and headed towards the bar.
My eyes stayed on her tits until she turned around and then I stared at her ass in the short cut-off jeans. She was pretty—average pretty at best. She wasn’t going to win any competitions but in our small town, she could get by with just her tits and her ass. Once she was behind the bar, I pulled a pack of Winston cigarettes out of my pocket and lit one up, blowing the smoke away from Frank. When my attention turned back to him, I saw him staring at his beer, a thumbnail in the label.
“So, what’s been going on, man? How’s retirement treating you? How’s Sylvia doing?” I asked.
“Retirement sucks, Dalton. I have my pension and I’ve still got money left over from the insurance settlement…” He didn’t finish the sentence, but I knew he was referencing his wife who was killed by a drunk driver.
“And Sylvia?” I tried to turn the conversation to his daughter.
“She’s a teenager now.” He laughed. “She’s a damn teenager. Can you believe a boy came the door the other day asking if she wanted to go for a walk?”
“That’s a fucking mistake.” I laughed as the waitress brought our beer and leaned over as she put them on the table.
“Thank you, Rachel.” Frank said to her.
“Yeah, we appreciate it.” I grabbed one and twisted off the top. I took a drag off my cigarette and exhaled before taking a drink.
“Sylvia’s going to be break some hearts.” Frank shook his head. “She looks just like Laurie.”
“She lucked out then. Your other girl looks like you.” I laughed to myself.
“Yeah.” He couldn’t help but chuckle. “I love Maddie, but I didn’t do her any genetic favors. It also doesn’t help that she’s a bitch.”
“I wasn’t going to go there.” I shook my head quickly.
“It’s fine. She is what she is. She got more than my looks, she’s as stubborn as I am.” Frank sipped his beer.
The conversation drifted to various things, like our time on the force together, a few of the big cases we busted, and of course we talked about women—all the women. I hadn’t seen Frank much since his wife passed. Occasionally, I could lure him out of his house to meet up for a few drinks, but those times got fewer and far between as the years passed us both by. He was more than my partner, he was my mentor. He had a few years on me and when we got paired up as partners, we hit it off almost immediately.
“So, what about you, Dalton? When are you going to get married?” Frank smirked as he twisted the top off another beer.
“Hell no.” I shook my head. “Just hell no.”
“What happened to Veronica…or was it Vivian?” He raised his eyebrows.
“There was one of each, yeah. It didn’t work out.” I shook my head.
“That’s why we are good friends.” Frank laughed. “I married the first girl I found and you showed me I made the right decision.”
“You didn’t marry the first girl you found.” I narrowed my eyes at him. “What about the Waters twins, what about Sarah…”
“Okay, fine.” He shook his head. “I married the first girl I found who wasn’t a filthy, fucking whore.”
“Everyone needs a filthy, fucking whore now and then. Speaking of, where the fuck is our waitress?” I looked around and held up the empty bucket that needed more beer. Once she acknowledged me, I lit another cigarette.
“I need to talk to you about something.” Frank said and his mood seemed to darken.
“What’s going on?” I asked as I blew smoke away from the table.
“I saw the doctor the other day. He said I’m not in the best of health…” Frank said with a sigh.
“Well obviously.” I laughed. “Neither of us are.”
“No, I mean…” Frank tapped his fingers on the table. “All my numbers are fucked up. I’ve got bad cholesterol, I need to lose weight, I need to stop drinking…”
“What do the doctors know anyway? Captain James smoked a pack a day, drank everything in sight, and lived to be ninety-four. Hell, he didn’t retire until he was seventy-five.” I shook my head. “Don’t listen to that shit.”
“I know, it’s just been keeping me up at night, that’s all.” Frank sighed. “I’ve been drinking a lot since Laurie died. Honestly, I know I shou
ld slow down, but I just can’t…”
“It’s fine man. I get it.” I nodded.
“I just need to know that if anything happens to me, you’ll look after Sylvia. She’s a good kid. We don’t get along and I know we probably never will, but I want her to have a good life.” Frank grabbed a fresh beer and twisted the top off.
“Frank.” I grabbed another beer as well. “She’s your daughter. Of course, I’m going to make sure she’s okay. You’re just worrying yourself for no reason. See, this is why I never had kids. They interfere with good drinking.”
“Thanks, man.” Frank smiled. “I appreciate it.”
After the drinking was done, I walked back to my car, but when my keys didn’t easily go into the door, I figured I shouldn’t drive. I called a cab and got a ride back to my house. Once inside, I lit a cigarette and sat down on the couch. Frank mourned his wife while he had a family who loved him. I had nothing. My love life was a pile of dust that just kept accumulating year after year. None of the women I ever brought into my life were good enough for me.
What I was after was complicated. I was a dominant, true alpha male who couldn’t stand the women’s liberation movement. I wanted a woman who would submit to me, bend to my will, and agree to let me take the position of power in our relationship. It extended beyond the bedroom—I wanted to dominate her in every way. I always held back because the only way to get what I really wanted was to break someone. I didn’t want to break them, I wanted to save them, to find them already broken and put them back together again—to mold them in the image of my perfect little submissive girl.
Chapter 1
Present Day — Sylvia
“Oh…” I sat up in my bed and felt a pounding in my head. “My head hurts so bad.”
“Yeah, you smell really bad too.” I heard someone laugh.
I opened my eyes wide and realized I wasn’t in my bed at home. I was laying on a small cot surrounded by bars. The events of the previous night started running through my head like a bad movie told in slow motion. I looked around the cell and saw several other women sitting on long steel benches. Some of them were laughing at the person who made fun of me and some of them were just silent. I realized she wasn’t just making fun of me—I really did smell like death.
“What are you in for, stinky?” A large Hispanic woman asked.
“I made a mistake.” I blinked a couple of times. “It was a misunderstanding.”
“Me too!” A woman to my left said with a sarcastic nod of her head. “I forgot that my friend left an eight ball of cocaine in my purse!”
“I’m with you, sister.” The Hispanic woman replied. “I forgot I was on probation and it was just a misunderstanding when I violated it.”
The group laughed. If anyone would have told me I would celebrate my nineteenth birthday behind bars, I would have told them they were crazy. I was a good girl and definitely not the kind of person to ever see the inside of a police station—much less the inside of a jail cell. I really was there because of a mistake and a misunderstanding—but it was a big one. I could vaguely remember the blue lights, the officer reading my rights, and the charges against me.
The charges were bad enough to get me disowned, disinherited, and likely disemboweled—if my father ever found out about them. I wasn’t sleepy, but my head was killing me, so I curled up with my jacket under my head. I didn’t bother to use my one phone call because I was too embarrassed to admit why I was locked up to begin with. I would have rather taken a felony than actually tell someone why my nineteenth birthday ended with me in the back of a patrol car instead of my bedroom.
“Come on, Henderson. Your bail is posted.” One of the guards I had the pleasure of meeting that previous evening opened the door of my cell and motioned for me to follow him.
“Ask them if they’ll post my bail too!” The woman beside me said.
“Yeah, me too!” The Hispanic woman yelled. “Tell them I’m in here for a misunderstanding and a mistake. I deserve to be free too! I got kids!”
I leaned up and grabbed my jacket, sliding it on as I walked through the cell. The women in the cell jeered me until I could no longer hear them. I hoped I would never see the inside of a cell again, although I knew bail was little more than a temporary reprieve. The charges were still there and would be a stain on my life if I didn’t find a way to make them go away.
I walked down the long hallway, feeling like a criminal on the verge of seeing sunlight for the first time in a decade, despite the fact it had been less than ten hours, and I slept through part of it. Processing me out was a lot quicker than processing me in. They simply dumped my things into a plastic tray and shoved it down a conveyor belt. It reminded me of the first time I flew, being hustled through security with little regard for anything but the process. I gathered my things and found that my wallet was empty. I didn’t know if I had managed to spend it all or if it was stolen. The night really was a blur.
Once I had my things again, I looked around the police station for a familiar face, but I didn’t see anyone I recognized. The mystery of my bail benefactor remained unsolved as I walked down the long hallway. I hoped it was one of my girlfriends that bailed me out, although I wasn’t sure any of them would be able to afford it without asking their parents for money. That meant my parents would find out and since neither of them were currently in the hallway beating the hell out of me, I was sure they still had no idea I was put in the back of a patrol car.
“Fucking sun…” I held my hand up as the morning sun spilled into my eyes like fire and lava.
“Good morning, Sylvia.” I heard a rough and grizzled voice say.
“Oh shit.” I turned to see the face of Dalton Cole, leaning against his old blue Ford pickup truck. He was one of my father’s closest friends.
“Yep. That’s about the reaction I would expect you to have.” He shook his head and let out a long sigh. “You really screwed up this time, didn’t you?”
“You are the one who bailed me out?” I tilted my head. “How did you even know I was in there? I know my father didn’t send you…”
“Hell no.” Dalton pulled a pack of Winston cigarettes from his front shirt pocket and tapped one out. “If your father knew you were arrested for prostitution, I don’t think he would have sent me to bail you out.”
“No, I think he would be planning my funeral.” I walked towards the truck and Dalton opened the passenger door.
“I doubt that.” Dalton chuckled slightly as I climbed inside. “He would probably just let your rot in there.”
Dalton slammed the door once I sat down in the passenger seat and walked around the to the driver’s side, smoke bellowing from his lips as he took a long drag. I always had a crush on Dalton. He was six and a half feet of solid muscle with an attitude to match. He was a brute and he was a real man. When guys at school would ask me out, I would practically laugh in their faces and go home to stare at a picture of a man only a few years younger than my father. Nobody knew about that—it was a secret I planned to take to the grave.
“So how did you find out?” I asked as he climbed into the cab of the truck and rolled down the window.
“I got a call from one the guys I worked with. He recognized you and he knows who your father is. When you didn’t take your free phone call, he figured it wasn’t a good idea to call your father.” Dalton cranked the truck and drove forward when there was a break in the morning traffic. He flicked ashes out the window and took another drag off of his cigarette.
“The charges are bullshit.” I said angrily, folding my arms across my chest. “I wasn’t trying to prostitute myself.”
“Well…” Dalton shook his head. “I guess you can imagine how ‘I’ll suck your dick for twenty dollars’ could be misinterpreted?”
From what I remembered, that was an exact quote, although I didn’t mean it.
“I was just fucking around.” I said angrily. “He should have known I was joking.”
“I get it.”
Dalton sighed and took another drag off his cigarette. “You were out with your friends on your birthday and you had too much to drink. Everyone starts offering to suck dick for money after a few drinks. That sounds like a normal Saturday night.”
“It was just a fucking joke.” I stared out the window. “I’m never smoking pot again.”
“Oh lord.” Dalton shook his head. “Alcohol and weed? No wonder you were out of your damn mind.”
“Yeah.” I looked over at him. “It was a huge mistake.”
“You’re damn straight it was.” He looked over and our eyes met, then he started laughing and I couldn’t help but laugh as well.
“This is fucking ridiculous.” I said.
“No doubt.” He sighed as his laughter died down. “Where do you want me to take you?”
“Home I guess.” I shook my head. “I’ll have to face my father sooner or later. Maybe if you’re the one bringing me home, he won’t shoot me on sight.”
“Sorry, Sylvia.” He shook his head. “I’m not going anywhere near your house. Your father is liable to shoot us both.”
“What? You don’t think it’s perfectly normal for his best friend to bring his nineteen-year-old daughter home well after sunrise?” I winked at him.
“No, and I don’t think he’s going to listen to an explanation either. If you want my advice, face your demons. Just tell him.” Dalton said.
“I don’t know…” I muttered.
“Look, your father may not have been the most popular guy when he was on the force, but sooner or later someone is going to call him. You’ll be a lot better off if he hears it from you.” Dalton stopped the truck.
“You’re probably right. You usually are.” I opened the door and hopped onto the sidewalk.
“Call me if you need anything.” Dalton said before I slammed the door shut.
