Falling Into You (Geek to Chic) Page 5

by Brinks, Nikki

He was completely ready to ignore the yelling and continue exploring her mouth. Unfortunately, Roni heard the yelling all too clearly because she pulled away from him searching for the location of the voice. Her eyes became huge blue lakes and her mouth dropped open before turning into a smile.

Derek turned to see what she was looking at. He started laughing at the sight. Izzy had Alex pinned against the wall with a pool stick across his chest. Even with her back to them her stance told Derek that Alex had stepped in it again. “Well, at least she hasn’t left a visible mark on him.”

Roni laughed at his observation. “The night is still young I am sure Alex will say something that earns him either a slap or castration. I hadn’t even noticed that they were playing pool. Maybe we should go join them?”

Derek nuzzled her exposed neck with his nose, whispering “I would rather get back to what we were doing and just let the two of them kill eat other.” His nuzzling turned in to small kisses and licks. He moved her sweater over a little to get take a small nip at her collar bone quickly soothing it with his tongue. Her skin was soft and pale, the slight floral sent him now associated with her intoxicated him. His only wish was that they were somewhere more private, like his bedroom.

“Hmm Derek. We should go save Alex from being murdered. I really don’t want to have to go on the run with Izzy.” She smiled and pushed him away.

“Fine, be a do-gooder. But mark my words, we will finish this little make out session at some point.” He kissed her mouth quickly and took a deep breath. He needed to get his body under control again. The horny teenager had been in control and was pissed about being sidelined. He looked over to the pool tables. Izzy was glaring at Alex as he took a shot. At least she had released him from the wall. Derek slid out of the booth, reaching for Roni’s hand to help her out. “Let’s go be social and save Izzy from going to jail. I would hate for her to be the woman who finally ended him”

“Oh, I think she would love to have that honor even if it did cost her life in jail.” Roni scooted out of the booth taking Derek’s hand.

The moment Roni touched Derek’s hand, she regretted her decision to end their very public make out session. This man could kiss! She wasn’t sure if it was the passion of the kiss or the six months it took them to get to this point, whatever the reason she felt like her skin was on fire. She decided that no matter how many extra sets of batteries she had, her battery operated boyfriend was not going to be able to provide any relief. Only Derek could quiet the storm churning within her body. She sighed quietly as they walked hand in hand over to Alex and Izzy.

“Izzy I am so proud of your restraint. Alex doesn’t even have a hand print on him. Although I would love to know why you had him pinned to the wall?” Roni knew she was poking the bear, but she was in the mood for some cheap entertainment.

Izzy stood tall, well as tall as she possibly could, shoved Alex out of her way and walked over to them until she was nose to nose, well nose to chest, with Derek. “You should keep that thing you call a friend in a cage instead of bringing him out. Not only did he try to molest me when I came out of the bathroom, he cheats at pool!” Izzy was jabbing Derek in the chest with her tiny pointer finger. To Derek’s credit, he was doing a fantastic job not laughing at Izzy’s antics.

Roni on the other hand lost it. Laughing so hard she was doubled over, grabbing her stomach. Once she regained control she turned to her small friend. “So that’s what this is about! You could care less if he molested you, it’s the cheating at pool that bothers you! Big mistake Alex. Izzy takes games very seriously, no matter what she plays. Cheating will set her off like nothing else. A little hint, it is better just to let her win, when she loses it’s not pretty.”

“That’s not true! I can lose, sort of. But this has nothing to do with that, it has to do with how he was cheating! The walking hormone boy kept rubbing up against me while I was lining up my shot and then the bastard grabbed my ass as I went for the shot!” Izzy was glaring at Alex as she spoke, her hands flying around with each word.

“Had I known that your friend here would pin me to the wall with the stick that fast after grabbing her ass I would have done it sooner.” Alex chuckled out. “That was one of the hottest things a girl has ever done. And that is saying a lot considering the girls I have been around.” Alex must be suicidal to stand that close to Izzy while he spoke those words.

Roni quickly grabbed Izzy by the shoulders before she could draw blood. “Do you not see the murderous look in her eyes? Or are you really that dumb?” Roni could not believe she even had to ask Alex these things.

Derek burst out laughing, “I feel so cheap here, and I thought I was special when you grabbed my ass when we played pool. He cheats at every game. Like Izzy, he hates to lose and likes to stack the deck in his favor. Since the game you have been playing has been tainted by Alex’s lack of ethics, let’s start a new game. Guys versus girls or couples? Your choice.” Derek was working hard to diffuse the situation. Roni appreciated his attempt. The other two seemed to want to do him in now that he had referred to them as a couple.

“Sounds fun, but we better separate them. I am adding the rule that the Neanderthal cheater has to sit on one of the bar stools when it is not his turn. To eliminate temptation, and protect him from Izzy ‘accidently’ beating him with her pool cue.” Roni suggested as she began to rack the balls on the table. She looked up to see Derek staring down her shirt and Alex and Izzy trying to kill each other with a look alone. All she wanted was a night out with her obsession and now she was stuck babysitting. Maybe she should just let Izzy quietly murder Alex so that Derek and she can get back to what they started at the table.

“So, what’s the bet?” Alex asked, hands in his front pockets rocking back and forth on his heels. He did innocent well, but Roni had a feeling he was going to ask for something outrageous.

“Do you mean money?” Roni asked, knowing that this was not going to be about money.

“No, we have plenty of that, let’s make it interesting.” Alex’s voice had a dark husky tone to it now. “I think if we win each of you girls, cooks one of us dinner, at our house.” He smiled.

“I call cooking for Derek.” Izzy said low behind Roni. Roni looked at her friend and shook her head. “Fine, I will have to look online to find out what Alex’s species eats.” Izzy mumbled.

“Ok fine, we will cook, what do we get?” Roni turned to Izzy. “What should we ask for?”

“I think we need some yard work done, if we win you guys come over and clean the gutters and trim the tree away from the house.” Izzy stated, obviously picking items that would keep her and Alex in separate areas of the house if they won.

“Deal. Let’s play.” Derek jumped in before Alex could say a word. She was starting to see he was one who liked to keep the peace. “Ladies you break.” Derek kissed her cheek and wished her luck before they started the game. Izzy and Alex glared at them for being too close to the enemy. This should be fun, not.

  ***

Derek could not believe they won the game of pool. The girls were really good, obviously having spent some time in pool halls over the years. He almost lost his mind each time Roni bent over to take her shot. He tried to stand behind her, nope that didn’t work her perfect ass was right in his face. He then tried to stand in front of her, nope that didn’t work either, he could see straight down her shirt to her very lacy red bra. To the side of her he got a view of her hips and perfect lips. His mind was preoccupied by her body. Before each shot he had to block her out and concentrate. It was thanks to Alex that they won. He didn’t even cheat this time. Unless you count, arguing with Izzy every time she went to take a shot cheating.

Derek leaned in to Roni as they sat back at the booth eating and drinking. “So what are you going to make me for dinner?” He whispered in a husky voice. He had to admit that he was sure Alex’s bet was going to backfire, but once again his friend knew what he was doing.

Well, first I should warn you my cooking is subpar at best. Izzy and I live like bachelors. Living on take out and frozen meals. I do make a mean stir fry though.” She smiled at him, he loved that smile. Hell for all he cared, they could order in as long as he got to spend time with her.

“That sounds great. Is my kitchen safe or should I go buy a few more fire extinguishers?” He laughed.

She blushed, “Well…” Roni was looking down and chewing her nails at this point, “I have only had a small kitchen fire. So a fire extinguisher isn’t necessary, but a supply of baking soda may be in order.”

Derek laughed hard. Of course she had started a kitchen fire. “I will make sure to have both fire extinguisher and baking soda on hand.”

“Now that we have discussed safety issues, what night would you like me to cook? How about next Saturday?” Roni looked and sounded excited, which made his insides melt a little. He was in over his head with this girl. In a few short days of actually knowing her, she had managed to get under his skin.

“Saturday sounds great. Oh crap, never mind, I’m busy that night. How about Friday instead?” His voice sounded desperate and unsure of changing the day.

“I can’t. Friday night is our monthly girl’s night out.” He was relieved to hear the disappointment in her voice. Which may make him an asshole, but hey, he liked knowing she was as into him and he was into her.

He wanted to tell her she could just make him breakfast tomorrow morning and they would call it good. He knew better though. He wasn’t Alex after all. He had never wanted a woman this badly. Most of his recent dates, he used the term loosely, he only wanted to be around for a few hours. Just long enough to wine and dine them and get them into their bed. He always made an excuse as to why he couldn’t spend the night, often blaming his work schedule. This time, with this woman, he wanted to have her in his bed all night. Maybe even keep her there… forever.

He kissed her chastely on the cheek. “No worries, we’ll figure out a time. So what do you think of my office? I know you were only there for a little bit today. On Monday I will show you around and introduce you, get you settled more. We need to swing by HR too, get your paperwork and official ID.” Now he was babbling.

Roni giggled at him. Placing a hand on his shoulder as though to comfort him past his sudden nervousness. “It is already ten times better than the last place I worked. You should see the guy I work for now! Wow, he has a great ass. I may have a difficult time staying focused with a man like that around.”

Derek had to laugh. “Well, I think your work focus will be fine. From what I understand your new boss is a bit of an antisocial workaholic. Sometimes his staff will even go days without actually seeing him, only receiving mystical emails from him.” He was going for self-deprecation, however, by the serious look on Roni’s face he failed.

“You seriously go weeks without talking to your staff, face to face? Well, that is the first thing that is going to change. Your new admin is going to make sure you get out of your office at least once a day to mingle with the villagers.” Roni said nodding emphatically.

“Um, yeah that might scare some people. It is best if I stay in my office away from the village.” He was not known for having a winning personality as a boss. He preferred to communicate via email, that way all his thoughts were organized. Leaving no room to question what he was asking them to do. He looked away from Roni’s penetrating stare.

“How do you manage to get coffee or go to the bathroom without having at least one run in with your staff? Plus, I saw you talk to staff today when we went into the building.”

“Well to answer your first question, I stop at the Starbucks to get my coffee. And to see a pretty girl I like.” Ok, so he may be laying it on thick, but he thought it might earn him some points. “I have a private bathroom in my office. Thus ending the need to leave my office on most days. As for this morning, that was unusual. I am usually there before everyone and leave after everyone. Most of those people who stopped me only needed a signature or to tell me a quick bit of information. The staff rarely sees me, only in meetings.” Wow, he was sounding very antisocial. The truth was he was antisocial but not to that extent. He liked to hang out with his friends and sister. Beyond that safe circle, his old high school insecurities crept in causing anxiety. Now Derek was nervous, looking at his drink as though it held the answers to the universe.

Once again, Roni put his nerves to rest. Placing her hand over his on the table, “Well, luckily for you, your new admin is quite the people person. I am sure she can show you the ropes and help you get to know your staff.”

Derek smiled back at her. He was simply amazed at how quickly she put him at ease. He leaned in to kiss her. His blood rushing south. His lips met hers gently. He turned his body more in into hers. Grabbing her hips, he drew her closer. Roni ran her slender finger through his hair, earning a groan of pleasure from him. Roni moaned in return as his arms rubbed up and down her thighs. Their tongues dancing together.

Just as Derek was going to whisper that they should go back to his house, her hand slid from his hair smashing into the plate on the table. “Son of a bitch.” Roni cried out. Moving away from her he saw that she had in fact broken the plate with her hand. A hand that was now bleeding. He grabbed the white napkin on his lap, pressing it to her bloody hand. “Ouch, that hurts.”

Derek looked down to see that white napkin was now bright red. He stood throwing some bills on the table to cover the bill and the broken plate. “Did you drive?” She nodded, tears streaming down her face in pain.

He looked around for Izzy and Alex. They had stayed to play another game of pool. Izzy really didn’t believe they beat them fair and square so she demanded a rematch. Alex was happy to oblige. He motioned for them even though they were already heading over to the table. Having heard the commotion. “Roni needs to go to the ER. Can you take Izzy home?”

Alex smiled an evil smile. “I would be happy too.”

“No, I need to go with Roni. “ Izzy stated obviously worried about her friend.

“No, go with Alex. I’ll take her to the ER and bring her home.” Before Izzy could argue, Derek grabbed Roni, her purse and her jacket and led her out of the brewery. He hated seeing her hurt. He looked for her car. Not remembering exactly what she drove from when he had dropped her off earlier. “Where is your car baby?” She tilted her head to the second row of cars so he headed that way and saw a familiar car. Settling her into the passenger seat, he ran around to his own side.

  “You ok baby?”

“Thank you for taking care of me. It really hurts. I’m not sure how I managed to cut my hand open while attempting to feel you up under the table.” She smiled up at him through the tears.

Letting out a strangled groan. Derek quickly adjusted himself in his jeans. “You are killing me! I am supposed to be rushing you to the ER and now all I can think of is a hand job…. and more.” Derek gave her his panty dropping smile before turning his attention back to the road. Roni only giggled.

  Chapter Seven

“Eight Stitches! How did I manage to injure myself while making out with you? That is a new one even for me. I guess at least this time my clumsiness only damaged me and not you.” Roni really could not understand how she managed to injure herself while making out with the hot tech mogul. Her clumsiness was out of control when she was around this man.

“Don’t worry, you can make it up to me once you’re feeling better.” Derek said wiggling his eyebrows at her.

They were almost to her house. She was amazed by his actions tonight. He had stayed with her the entire time she was in the ER. Even when she assured him she would be fine and he could wait in the waiting room. Derek sat with her while the doctor examined her. Stayed through the shot and through the stitches. She could tell that the stitching part was a particular troubling part for him. He was holding her non injured hand, talking to her making jokes, obviously trying to keep her mind off of the fact that a doctor (who looked way too youn
g to be a real doctor) was pulling a needle through her skin. However, at one point Derek turned white as a sheet and had to sit. That made her smile and forget her own pain.

Now the pain was coming back full force since the shot was wearing off. Luckily they were almost back to her house. “It’s the last house on the right.” Roni said, pointing her house out to Derek. "Whose cars are those in the driveway?"

Derek slowed the car as he looked. A slow smile spread across his face before he laughed. "Well, it looks like Alex is still with Izzy. Maybe that line between love and hate really is that thin."

"Or maybe he finally made a comment that made her feel the prison sentence would be worth murdering him and is in the backyard burying the body." Roni felt that was a more likely scenario.

"Quick question, how would Izzy, who is tiny be able to first murder, then bury a man the size of Alex by herself?" Derek asked with amusement.

Roni smiled. "You have never seen Izzy truly pissed off. I fully believe she could take on SEAL team six all by herself and win when she is in the red rage zone. And let's be honest Alex tends to bring that out in her." She hoped Derek wouldn't miss his friend too badly.

Derek pulled into the driveway. "Only one way to find out if Alex is alive and well, or in pieces." With that he hopped out of the car. Once again he ran around to her side of the car opening her door before she could even make a move to get out. A girl could get used to this kind of treatment.

They began walking to the door when they heard all kinds of chaos happening. "See, she’s murdering him." Roni deadpanned with a shake of her head.

"Or he finally got in her pants." Derek countered.

Since Derek still had her keys he unlocked and opened the front door. The scene in front of them was one that took her brain several seconds to process. The good news was that Alex was alive and well. The strange part was that instead of just Alex and Izzy in her house, there were four additional guys and her friend Gracey. They were playing... of course Izzy's favorite game Call of Duty. That's right her pixie sized kindergarten teacher friend was a COD addict. By the words the boys were using, Izzy and Gracey must have been kicking their collective ass. Roni smiled.
