I ran as fast as I could through the hallway, down the steps and through several more halls until I reached the cafeteria. I couldn’t miss one second of Carlos’ birth; my first child! I spun my head around searching for the water dispenser. As my head spun from side to side I felt a tap on my arm. I jumped slightly and looked down to see what was tapping at my arm. My jaw dropped when I saw the short blonde nurse who was trying to capture my attention, “Annie?” I asked in shock, “is that you?”
“Damien!” She exclaimed with excitement, “Wow it’s been years!” She wrapped her tiny little arms around me and I hugged her back lifting her off the ground slightly.
“How are you doing?” she asked still patting my arms down as if to make sure I was really there.
Annie had been a nurse stationed with me in Germany. She was there when Anthony had left and had been there when I was diagnosed with my disorder. She had seen me at my worst and helped me through a lot of my harder times.
“I’m doing great!” I told her, subconsciously more in reference to my illness.
“That’s great to hear,” she smiled sweetly. “I know it must have been hard for you to relive that all again.”
“Sorry?” I didn’t understand what she meant.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring it up again but with all that…err… new information, it must have been hard for you.”
I still hadn’t the faintest idea of what she was talking about. I cocked my head at her.
“You know… with Anthony?”
My face must have changed because her eyes grew wide and her jaw clenched as if she shouldn’t have said anything at all.
“I don’t understand,” I told her, trying to remain calm. “I haven’t heard anything.” My mind was racing a mile a minute thinking up possibilities before she could say anything.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have—“
I grabbed her arm. “No please it’s okay. I want to know.”
She looked up at me and sighed. “Anthony died. When he went on his mission with Special Intelligence, they were ambushed by a group of rouge operatives. No one saw it coming, no one even knew what happened until remains of the members of task force were found just a few years back.”
My mind snapped back and forth between Carlos having my baby and Anthony’s body being found. My heart started racing, I felt like I couldn’t breathe, my head was light, I felt my knees buckling and I started to faint. Annie reached out to catch me and then everything went black.
I woke up moments later to Annie fanning my face and people crowded around me, asking if I was okay. I shook my head and took the cup of water Annie was holding. I drank a sip, taking a moment to realize what was going on.
All this time I had wondered, searched, prayed for Anthony and never received any answers until now.
“I’m fine, I’m fine, thank you,” I told the crowd of people around me. I looked at Annie, “Annie, my omega is having a baby, I have to go,” I grabbed her shoulders, “and thank you! I can finally close that chapter of my life.” Slowly, I moved to my feet, collecting myself.
Once standing I thanked everyone once again and trotted off to find my omega. I burst through his hospital room door holding the cup of water still in my hands. Carlos looked so happy to see me and, in that moment, that was all that mattered.
Carlos’ delivery was smooth; I knew it was going to be for such a strong omega. Carlos lay on the hospital bed, holding our new baby boy. He was beautiful. My new family was all together: Carlos, his mother and sisters, and my son.
Carlos looked up at me. “What do we name him?”
I looked at the love of my life, my second chance at happiness as tears formed in my eyes, “I know this is strange, Carlos, but can we call him Anthony?”
Carlos saw the look in my eyes and understood my intentions for asking this was purely love and honor. He smiled a big smile, “I love it!” And he pulled my head in for a giant smooch.
My family is complete I thought to myself, and I’ve never been more happy.

The Solider Went South: Alphas In The Army
Is a second chance possible? Or is the first time the only time you get?
The army is Justin’s life. He’s an exemplary soldier, and he takes great pride in being successful. He’s never focused much on dating, and meeting omegas that he can connect with is a challenge for him. He hasn’t given any thought to being in a relationship, not since breaking up with his high school sweetheart.
Rory chose the life of an expat, bouncing around from exotic locales to hidden beach towns, living the life of a traveler. A loner. He’s had his fun, never settling down or putting down roots. He doesn’t care much for the idea of love since Justin broke his heart by joining the army. But the life of a nomad is taking its toll, and Rory is longing for something more.
A late-night message rekindles an old flame between once young, naïve lovers. Rory and Justin tried at love before, and it didn’t work. Nine years later, they’re both alone, looking for something they can’t name. Could the time be right for their love story, almost a decade in the making? Or are they destined to make the same mistakes again?
The Soldier Went South features an unexpected pregnancy, a second chance at love, and the discovery of what home truly means. If you’re not looking for a story about a man getting pregnant (and how he gets that way), then avoid this book!
