The Journey: The Ultimate Power Book 1 Page 24

by Shadahyah Elizabeth

“Good,” she said, coldly, then exited the room.

Caleb sat there for a few moments, thinking about what had just happened. Never in his life had he ever encountered such a powerful witch, and this one was Lenilla’s sister. He had heard rumors in the castle that she may have had siblings, but he had no idea it would be a twin, let alone someone so powerful. But why didn’t Lenilla have powers? Could this be the reason why she had never said anything about her sister? And what about her daughter? Had Lenilla given up Elizabeth, or was she lied to about her death? Caleb thought through it all as he struggled to his feet and slowly made his way back to the chair. He needed answers, but he knew that no one here would give him any. He needed to get back to the castle as soon as possible, and he needed to bring the girls with him; only then would they be safe.

A few minutes later, the door opened up and the men walked back in. “Are you two done with your talk?” Angelo asked. He then noticed the mess that had been created by Caleb and Elizabeth’s aunt. “What happened in here?” Angelo demanded as he made his way towards the mess on the floor. The other men joined him, trying to examine the damage.

Caleb didn’t know what to say. He knew that if he were to tell them everything that had happened while they’d been gone, he would have Lenilla’s twin to answer to. But if he didn’t answer then it would be Rico, who was currently looking at Caleb as if to seek revenge for the murder of his entire family. Caleb knew that nothing he could say would help his predicament, so instead he said nothing, and simply let them assume.

“Did Elizabeth do this?” Angelo asked, whipping his head back towards Caleb.

Caleb shook his head. “I’m not sure what happened,” he lied. It was the only thing he could think to say.

“Where is she?” Rico asked, after noticing that Elizabeth wasn’t in the room. “What did you say to her?” he demanded.

“I don’t know where she is,” Caleb admitted. “Her aunt came in and took her away.”

“Oh, I guess it was time for her training,” Angelo said, as he made his way towards his chair.

“What kind of training is she doing?” Caleb asked, determined to get some information.

Angelo smiled and sat down in his chair. “Well, if the damage in my office is any indication, you have already seen that Elizabeth and the others are learning to control their powers.”

“Why? So they can assist you in this foolish war of yours?” Caleb asked bitterly.

“The fight for freedom is not foolish. But the girls’ involvement in it is none of your concern,” Angelo informed him.

“As prince of this land, what those girls do and who they fight for is my concern. So again, I ask: Why are they helping you?” Caleb hissed. After meeting with Elizabeth, he had come to the conclusion that he didn’t want her or the other two involved in anything that this man had planned. He seemed too power hungry, and the girls did not deserve that kind of lifestyle. They needed to be protected, and he knew he was the man for the job.

Angelo smiled. “The girls will fight for whomever they choose, or they will not fight at all; that is their choice. For now, we have to make sure that they do not harm anyone with their powers, which is why they are training,” Angelo explained. “Is that enough information, your highness?”

“For now. Can we hurry this up? I kind of would like to get some rest. It’s been a long day,” Caleb asked, trying to get out of there so he could check on Elizabeth and maybe find Jasmine.

“Sure; let me just explain the rules. First, you must never tell anyone who you really are. Second, you can’t leave this place without our permission. And third, and this is the most important part, you can’t have any romantic relationship with any of those three girls. Of course, for you this shouldn’t be a problem,” Angelo explained.

“So let me get this straight: I can’t leave, I can’t tell people who I am, and I can’t fall for any of the girls that could kill me. Of course, one of them is my little sister, so that defiantly won’t be a problem. Where do I sign?” Caleb asked, eager to get out of the office and meet up with the girls.

“Okay Rico, help Caleb get settled in.”

  Caleb stood up.

“We’ll talk again later,” Angelo said, extending his hand towards Caleb. “Welcome to the rebel base.”

Caleb shook Angelo’s hand, then smiled as he realized that his life would never be the same again.
