"You killed my dad," Lucille said, sobbing little tiny choking noises. "You killed my dad!" Suddenly, the little girl screamed it. "You killed him dead. You killed him dead!" Her voice was cracking with terror.

"I'm sorry." Jaspierre scooped up the child and held her tight. "I had to. I'm so sorry; he was a bad man."

"I didn't think anyone could kill him," Lucille said, and hugged her mama tightly. "Can we go home now?"

Jaspierre knew for the very first time that they were all going to be okay.

  A Note from Mixi...

Thank you for reading Jaspierre's Last Chance. I'd really appreciate a review if you aren't too busy!

Ready for the sequel? Severina- Jaspierre Begins- Here you will get to find out who killed Severina!

  Here is a little excerpt:

Severina nodded her head slowly. She was a really lucky kid to have this house and these parents. And an uncle. A brand new uncle who was a little messed up. She couldn't wait to meet him. She was nine and plenty old enough to learn about her family, and her home. She stood up slowly, adjusting her skirt. It was one of her favorite skirts, and she was really disappointed that it had gotten stained. She brushed at it with her hand slowly.

It was a big splotch right near the hem. Maybe it wouldn't be so noticeable if she spun. She twirled quickly, but it was still really easy to see. She sat back down, frowning at it, rubbing her right hand on it a little harder. Maybe if she licked it off?

She lifted the hem towards her mouth and the cop sitting near her suddenly looked up at her. She paused, the skirt nearly at her lips. "Oh geez. Let's go get you something clean to wear." The cop was a girl cop, she had her hair in a bun underneath her little black cap. Her shiny badge flickered, and she yanked the dress out of Severina's hand. She lifted the child up, and they walked into the large door. Inside was an ancient marble floor in desperate need of refinishing. The cop shielded Severina's eyes as they tromped upstairs quickly.

In the center of the room there were more cops all standing hushed around mommy and daddy. Severina tried to peer around the edge of the cop, but she quickly blocked her. "Don't look, we just have to get you something to wear."

Severina's room was the first door on the right, and they slipped inside quickly and quietly. The cop rummaged through her closet and handed her a simple pair of pants and a shirt. Severina frowned. "I pick my own clothes. I'm not going to wear that. There are a lot of cameras here."

Severina stepped to the closet and pulled out a long dress dotted with sequins at the collar. The cop frowned. "You..." The cop paused. The kid just lost both parents. If she wanted to be overdressed, so be it. "Alright."

As Severina changed she put the stained skirt on the bed. The cop was gathering some things, a nightgown and some sensible clothing, and while she wasn't looking Severina quickly licked the stain.

It didn't taste like blood any more.

I am currently living in a five story house I am remodeling. I'm almost done with the fourth and fifth floors and man, am I tired. More books to come. If you want to hear when my next book is out, sign up for my newsletter.
