Kate fucked her. The vibrator easily sliding in and out of Rachel’s sopping cunt, as she slid her other hand along Rachel’s pussy and rubbed her clit. Then rubbing and fucking her at the same time, she suddenly slowed everything right down, until, just as Rachel was about to come, she eased out the dildo and replaced it with her tongue, driving the tip into her cunt as far as it would go before sliding up to her clit and licking her until Rachel couldn’t hold out any longer.

Rachel, riding the wave of absolute pleasure, thought she was going to loose the top her head.

“Job done then.” Kate smiled when Rachel finally got round to telling her. “And I’m glad you enjoyed it. I love you, you know.”

  “Love you too.”

“And I love the way your body held onto the toy. God, watching your pussy suck it in was so erotic. Like..”

Something moved outside on the landing.

In an instant Rachel was sitting up. “Polly?” She called out uncertainly. “That you?”

“Yes.” Came back the equally uncertain reply. “I’m sorry Rach, I didn’t mean to disturb you, but I thought I heard something. Are you okay?”

“We’re fine.” Rachel said, embarrassed that Polly might have seen them making love. “We couldn’t sleep. Eh, you been out there long?”

Polly shuffled her feet, or at least that’s what Rachel thought she was doing. Her uncomfortable ‘ long enough’, however, confirmed it.

“I’m sorry.” Polly added once she knew Rachel realised what she’d been doing. “I didn’t mean to watch. It’s just your door was open and I could hear.. and you looked so beautiful together – not that I could see all that much- and..”

“You thought you’d play a little game of I-spy.” Kate finished for her.

“Well, not quite like that.” Polly said. “Look, I’m really sorry girls. I didn’t mean to stay, I genuinely thought one of you might be hurt. I’ll just get my stuff and go, okay? I’m really sorry.”

“Polly, wait!” Rachel called after her, scrambling out of bed and flinging on her bathrobe. “Don’t go. It’s obvious it’s all just a misunderstanding and it was really sweet of you to come see if we were alright. Wasn’t it Kate?”

“Yeah.” Kate added, not sure where this was going but determined not to upset Rachel by saying what she really thought, namely that she thought Polly had been spying and that she should clear off just as soon as humanly possible. “I’m sure you didn’t mean to watch us and like you said, you couldn’t have seen all that much…eh, how much did you see exactly?”

“Enough.” Polly said, stepping into the room, wearing only her Winnie the Pooh nightshirt again. “And that’s the problem.”

“What?” Rachel asked, genuinely puzzled by Polly’s remark. “You’ve seen me naked dozens of times before.”

“I know I have, but it’s never turned me on before.”

That stumped her. What was Polly implying? That she suddenly found her attractive? Why? She’d never said anything before and the one time Polly had fancied her enough to screw her, not only had they been drunk, but she’d been so consumed with embarrassment afterwards that she’d made her promise never to discuss it again. So why the sudden reversal of feelings now?

“ I think.” Kate said, pulling the duvet up so it covered her chest. “That you should just go back to bed, Polly. It’s late and we’re tired and I think it might be best if we just leave all this until the morning.”

“But I don’t want to.” Polly sulked from the doorway. “I may regret it later, but right now I don’t give a damn. I want you. Both of you. God, I would gladly pay you to fuck me right now. And I know what I’ve said in the past and I know I made you promise Rach, but I haven’t had a decent session in ages and seeing the two of you together…”

Horrified, Rachel stopped her. “No!” She cried, abandoning her idea of comforting her friend in favour of getting her to leave. “I can’t. I’m with Kate now and you’re my friend. Please don’t ask me to do this.”

“But I don’t know what else to do!”

“Then can I make a suggestion?” Kate asked. “Good. Now, as much as I like you, Polly, I am not going to let you make love with my girlfriend okay? I know you’re frustrated and believe me, I understand how that feels, cos fuck knows I’ve been there often enough myself, but I am not going to let you crawl into bed with Rachel and me. So can I suggest you borrow one of my toys instead? They’re all brilliant at bringing you off and I promise you, after ten minutes with one of these beauties, you’ll be wondering what you ever saw in either of us.”

Thankfully Polly agreed, although it was obvious she thought she was settling for second best, and selecting the pink one, a huge vibrator with three settings, Kate handed it over and inwardly sighed with relief.

Who would have thought, she smiled to herself, our Polly climbing the walls for a bit of girl, girl sex. But it was always the quiet ones who caught you by surprise, or the ‘totally straight’ ones who always declared they were ‘never going to do anything so perverted’ and then cracked in the end. But Polly. She hadn’t seen that coming. It was Polly who’d seen her!

Reaching into the box, Kate fished out fresh batteries and then, just to make sure Polly understood there were no hard feelings, briefly hugged her, but only after making sure the duvet was well wrapped well around herself.

Polly might have seen Rachel in the buff a number of times, she thought, but there was no way she was going to be making a habit of it.

Rachel didn’t seem to mind, though, and sitting upright with her bathrobe gaping open, she listened to Polly apologising again for barging in on them, before telling her it didn’t matter and that she should go back to her own room and have fun.

Kate hoped she would. She didn’t need any more interruptions like that one, and getting out of bed, she shut the door the minute Polly left the room.

“Jeez!” She exclaimed, getting back into bed and stealing Rachel’s warmth. “ You sure know how to pick ‘em babe. Fancy being so frustrated you ask your best mate to fuck you. What if we’d said yes. Would she have gone through with it do you think?”

“God knows. “Rachel replied. “She did seem kinda keen.”

“You can say that again! I thought she was going to leap on us at one point. Still, she’s got my little friend to keep her company now, so with a bit of luck she’ll be nicely humming away before too long. Think if we listen real hard we’ll be able to hear it buzzing?”

Rachel thumped her. “You are so bad!” She whispered into her ear. “And I bet she’s not even using it. I bet she’s crying.”

  “Crying? Why?”

“Why do you think, you moron! She’s probably as embarrassed as hell right now and trying to work out how she can slip away without us noticing.”

Kate stiffened. “You think?” She asked. “Shit, I hadn’t thought of that. Maybe we should go check up on her.”

“No, you stay here and I’ll go. I’ll be back in a minute.”

She was back in less than that. Kate looked at her expectantly. “Well?” She asked, welcoming her back into the warmth of the bed. “How was she? Was she crying?”

Rachel sighed. “No, she wasn’t crying.” She said. “She was coming. Hard.”

The next morning Rachel caught up with Polly in the kitchen.

She was eating toast at the table, her holdall already packed at her feet.

“ You don’t have to, you know.” Rachel said awkwardly, watching Polly lick jam from her fingers. “ Last night doesn’t change anything. We’re still mates.”

Polly eyed her sadly. “Thanks.” She said. “But I still think it would be for the best.”

“Why? You didn’t do anything wrong, being sexually frustrated is not a crime you know.”

“Oh, that really makes me feel better.”

  “You know what I mean.”

“Do I? Because I don’t think you have any idea of how embarrassed I feel. I tried to come on to my best friend, for Christ’s sake. No, worse than that. I tried to come onto to my best friend and her lover! And now you want me to stand here as if nothing’s happened. Well, I’m sorry Rach, I can’t do it. I’m embarrassed, I’m ashamed and I just want to get as far away from here as possible.”

“But running away isn’t going to help.”

  “Oh, believe me, it is.”

“No it isn’t! You’re still going to have to face me when you get back, so why not just get it over with now? Come on, Polly. Stay. We don’t even have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”

  “I’m sorry Rachel, I can’t.”

“But why? Give me one good reason.”

“Okay.” Polly said getting up. “How about this one. Christmas is over and I have to get back to work. There. That good enough for you?”

“No. It isn’t.” Rachel said surprised at the harshness in Polly’s voice. “And for what it’s worth I think you’re trying to turn this into something it isn’t. Okay, so last night was embarrassing, and yes, I agree with you, things might be a little awkward for a while, but it won’t last forever. We’ll get over it, just like we always do.”

“Sure.” Polly nodded, rinsing her plate off in the sink. “But not today. Today I’m going back to work and then home. And if you want to stay away from the house for a little while, then that’s fine with me. Thank Kate for Christmas dinner will you?”

  Fifteen

Polly didn’t go home after work. Nor did she turn up later that evening. Instead she sent Rachel a text message saying she had decided to take the remaining days off work between Christmas and New Year and would be spending them in Devon with her parents, who were feeling much better now they had got over their colds.

The message made Rachel sad but she didn’t try to stop her. She knew Polly was still feeling bad and if a few days out in the sticks, with only a passing sheep to answer to, was the only way Polly could do battle with the embarrassment that was obviously still eating away at her, then that was fine with her.

But the house, when she went back to check all was okay, felt so empty without her and the morning scramble for first shot at the bathroom was no fun when there was no one to race. Even Polly’s pot plants were suffering, and despite her best efforts to water them regularly and move them into the sunshine, they were already starting to wilt and worried that Polly would go bananas when she saw the mess she had made of them, Rachel was on the point of calling for advice when she remembered that Polly was in a notoriously bad spot for mobile reception and that the text message she had sent earlier probably wouldn’t get there either. The proof of which was in the eventual reply from Polly, who’d wished her a Happy New Year and then went on to remind her to water the plants!

Kate, naturally, thought she was mad. They were only plants she pointed out, Rachel could easily replace them at the garden centre and besides what did Polly expect? It had been her decision to run away and abandon them and she knew how rubbish Rachel was at growing things. If she’d wanted her precious plants to survive then she should have taken them with her!

“Actually, she hardly took anything with her.” Rachel replied, a little upset that Kate could be so harsh. “There’s not much missing from her wardrobe and most of her make up and stuff is still in the bathroom.”

“So she travels light.” Kate shrugged, unconcerned at Polly’s lack of preparation. “ Maybe she just grabbed what she needed and left, and she has gone to her parents remember. They probably still have some of her stuff stashed away in their house.”

“Maybe.” Rachel smiled weakly. “But I hope she’s okay. I feel like I drove her away.”

“No you didn’t!” Kate insisted. “This was Polly’s decision remember, not yours, and I know you, Rachel. If Polly had stayed you would have sat up half the night with her, pouring tea down her throat and convincing her it wasn’t really her fault, and that everything would work out fine in the end.”

“And you don’t think it will?”

“Who knows! Depends on Polly. What I do know is that you should stop beating yourself up about it. You tried talking to her Rach, and she didn’t want to know and to be brutally honest, she did bring it on herself. No one asked her to watch. She could have just seen that we were okay, walked away and gone back to bed. In fact, she bloody well should have walked away! Which reminds me, why aren’t you more cross about this?”

  “Because she’s my friend.”

“I see. She’s your friend. That good enough is it?”

“Actually, it is. She made a mistake Kate, that’s all. And why are you suddenly getting so het up about it? I thought you indifferent to it all.”

“ Are you kiddin? I only kept my temper because I didn’t want to upset you!”

“What? What about all that stuff with the dildo?”

“What about it? I only said that to get her out of the room! God, Rach, she was watching us screw! Don’t you think that’s even the tiniest bit sick? I mean, I could understand it if we were strangers and she’d just happened to come across us fucking. Even I would have been tempted to take a little peek then, but we’re her friends, or at least you are and I can’t get my head around the fact that she didn’t just walk away. Would you have stood there and watched your best mate making love?”

  “Probably not.”

“There you go then. I rest my case.”

“Okay! I agree with you, she shouldn’t have watched, but what can we do? What’s done is done and in my opinion there’s only two things we can do. We can either punish her forever and never let her live it down or, we can wait for her to get back from Devon and carry on as normal.”

“And no prizes for guessing which one you’d prefer?”

  Rachel shrugged.

“Okay, fine.” Kate sighed. “ For the sake of peace, we’ll do it your way. But if she ever does anything like that again, I’ll put her bloody tits in a clamp! And she can bloody well say sorry again as well. And I’m having a lock fitted to our bedroom door. No way am I having her spying on us again.”

Going back to work after the New Year was a nightmare.

Loathe to leave their lovely, warm bed, Rachel and Kate left it to the very last minute before getting up, and then flew around the house getting in each other’s way and generally turning the entire house into something resembling a war zone.

Poking herself in the eye with her mascara wand, Kate grumbled at her reflection and wished they’d could stay off work indefinitely. “At least that way I could get up at a reasonable time..” She added, dabbing at her lashes with a tissue. “And not have to waste time searching for my clothes.”

“You mean wasting time having to search which bit of the bedroom floor you flung them on.” Rachel retorted. “And when exactly did you get so messy? You were never like this when we first met.”

“I was! I just chose not to show it. Particularly as I was trying to create a good impression and all that.”

“I see. So am I in for any more little surprises? Are you going to start cutting your toenails at the table? Or eating Marmite straight out of the jar?”

Kate pulled a face. “First of all I do not cut my nails at the table, I cut them while sitting on the end of my bed, and secondly I hate Marmite! Can’t stand the stuff! Don’t tell me you like it?”

  “Love it.”

“You do? Well then that makes us even. You never told me about that!”

The office was a miserable place. Half the staff still had nauseating headaches from New Year’s Eve parties, whilst the half, who hadn’t been out and drunk themselves into an alcoholic stupor, were so smug and bloody cheerful that the half who merely wanted to vomit and then go home, seriously thought about deploying the guillotine for something other than just cutting paper.
<
br />   The state of their desks didn’t do much to lift their spirits either, and sitting down to a dozen folders and several scribbled post-it notes, Rachel pushed it all to one side and seriously wished she and Kate had pulled a sickie and stayed at home.

Kate clearly agreed. Five minutes after Rachel had sat down, an instant message arrived, confirming that she too had a desk piled high with letters and complaining she had absolutely no idea where the bottle of vodka she’d had secreted in her drawer had gone.

‘The cleaners?’ Rachel wrote back, flipping open the first file and sighing wearily when she realised it was the same account she’d been working on before Christmas and had been hoping might mysteriously walk from her desk and land on another’s.

‘I hope so.’ Kate wrote back. ‘ Or I’m in big trouble. Talking of which. Heads up babe. Phil’s on his way.’

He was and seconds later, he was leaning over her, smelling faintly of Brandy and old cigars.

“Good Christmas?” He asked, picking up a file and then lying it down again with exaggerated care. “Have a good time?”

“Yes, thank you.” Rachel answered curtly, wishing he’d just piss off and leave her alone. “I had a lovely time.”

Phil looked over his shoulder. “Good. Must be been nice having someone special to share it with.”

Rachel typed in three more letters. “I guess.” She said. “Why? Didn’t you?”

Phil snorted. “It wasn’t me I was referring to. I was thinking more about you and a certain – someone.”

“And what exactly do you mean by that?” Rachel asked frostily, turning in her chair so she could stare him in the face.

“I mean.” Phil said, leaning in closer still. “That I’ve seen you”

“Right. You’ve seen me. You see me every day Phil. I work here remember? So how about you stop wasting my time with these pathetic little word games, and just tell me exactly what you think you’ve seen.”

  “You really want to know?”

Rachel smiled. “ Of course I want to know.” She said sarcastically. “I mean, it must be absolutely fascinating if you’ve bothered to come all the way over here to tell me. So, come on, spit it out. What is it? My coat not hung up properly? My coffee breaks too long? Or is there something else you want to accuse me of, because if there is I wish you’d get on with it. I have better things to do than listen to you prattle on ear all day!”
