Selfless Series Box Set Page 44

Allie’s dismay was apparent the moment she met his gaze and worsened the moment she realized where he was headed.

“Hey Al,” Troy greeted with an all-conceited smirk as he slid into the seat beside her. “Kick you out of Advanced Physics, did they?”

She returned his smirk sarcastically but didn’t give him the satisfaction of an answer. Instead, she turned no-nonsensically back to writing down today’s chapters in her notebook even as the course professor, Mr. Wieners, had apparently left the room for a while and wasn’t anywhere in sight.

Troy leaned back in his seat, shaking his head again in ridicule. “Look at you, the teacher’s not even in the room yet and you’re already busy,” he observed. “Gossip, comb your hair, doodle some guy’s name in your notebook—you know, stuff girls do.”

When Allie still didn’t respond to his baiting, Troy grinned self-assuredly. “Fine,” he raised his hands in resignation. “Wouldn’t want your awesome bodyguard to come crashing down the door to beat me up with his Above Average I.Q., would I?” he teased of Caden.

Allie rolled her eyes sky high, not looking at him. Sooo creative. “A special student could do that,” she replied wryly, not really intending to say it out loud but not really caring either way.

Troy’s eyebrow quirked in surprise. “So the rumors are true,” he remarked. “A nerd’s bite is worse than its bark after all.”

Allie didn’t bother to stop to point out the many errors in his logic but instead regarded him with a business-like tone. “Look, Williams,” she said. “I’m not really here to pretend I know you exist so I’d appreciate you not talking to me altogether, okay? You can mind your own business—whatever it is,” she interjected. “—and I’ll mind mine, is that clear?” she prompted with a fake condescending smile and a nod.

He gave her a strange look of ridicule before shaking his head, leaning forward on the table on his elbows. “Superiority complex, thy name is Allie Alberts,” he muttered under his breath.

Allie heard him of course. “Huh, I thought he was seated next to me,” she quipped just as Wieners returned, walking into the room as half the class slightly sat up in alert, such that Troy was unable to retort in his defense or in disbelief.
