Vermijo Page 12

Paul used his long experience as a photographer to set up each shot. ‘I was keen to frame it perfectly.’ He used post production techniques to reinforce the mood of the film; fresh spring like colors for the opening scenes, bleached for the hot bitter years and the ending? ‘You’ll have to see the film to find out,’ said Paul.

  Thursday 3 October 2013

In an effort to promote the Southampton International Film Festival and his own film, Strong Arm of the Law, at the Festival, Paul Vernon was invited into the BBC South Studios to have a chat with South Today host Sally Taylor.

The short film picked up an award at the Festival and was to pick up more awards at local festivals and competitions with the crown being ‘Best Western’ at the Jerome Film Festival in June 2014.

While in Arizona he made another short with Adam Gold—Send Me Your Smile: A Desert Monologue. This picked up the coveted ‘Rising Spirit Award’ for the most inspirational film of the Festival at the Jerome Indie Film and Music Festival in September 2015.

Paul was now bitten and simply had to return to the ‘wild west’ to make a short feature.

  Vermijo was born.

But most of all, Lockhart, I’m the man who’s gonna burn you down.’

There’s nothing Carl likes better than shooting people
