I have more science fiction in me! I’ll keep you in the loop on what I’m working on.

  Thank you! — Erik

  Acknowledgements

I want to thank many people for making this trilogy happen. My wife Mary, of course, who pushed me to embark on it, and who made the suggestion that ultimately led to the Battle of Saint Peter’s Square. Early readers like Aaron Reynolds, Angela Carlin, Brent Hartinger, Doug Mackey, Joe Kreuser, Mary Lloyd, and Sian Dart. I owe a real debt to Edie Cooke, a retired labor nurse who helped with the live birth scene. She walked me through so much of that. Any errors were introduced after discussing it with her and are entirely mine.

I also want to thank the Grunewald Guild, an arts retreat center in Plain, Washington, where two-thirds of this book was written. I love writing at the Guild and am so glad it’s been a part of my life these past few years.

But I also absolutely have to thank you, the reader. It was two years between Book I and Book II. And then nearly two and a half years between Book II and Book III. Getting your emails and tweets over the time in between is what kept me motivated to keep going on the work.

  Thank you,

  Erik
