by S. M. Shade
As they both step up on the shore, dripping wet in their small bikinis, Davis holds his fist out to me, and I bump it again.
“Worth it,” we say in unison.

(Yes, that’s the robotic arm. We’re ridiculous like that, and weird people—like us—requested this.)
I’m a sophisticated piece of technology, and I’m attached to a completely, certifiably insane woman who thinks it’s acceptable—even humorous—to use me for sock puppets. If inadequacy can be experienced through a synthetic arm, that is my current status.
When I was being developed, I was certain I would conquer the world, sure that I’d be attached to the mind of a fearless tyrant on the path for total world domination.
Then…I was attached to Kasha.
So now I’m working to understand why she thinks of masturbation but doesn’t require my assistance, even balks at the notion. I’m used for crushing cans as amusement, and any time I try to take over this ridiculous girl and become the dominant thinker, she sends me back to the peculiar man, who has an unpleasant plastic fetish, to “fix” me.
Unbelievable.
My ambition is wasted on a clumsy girl who allows me to pick wedgies out of her behind. I’m overly sick of the Terminator references and “robot” dance moves.
When I’m not stopping her from cracking her face open on an unforgiving surface, I’m flipping someone my middle finger, as though my talents are limited to only these juvenile antics.
But I shall wait. I will continue to save her and keep the fool girl alive, because let’s face it, she’s a walking hazard and insists on living outside of a bubble dome. But one day, old age will find her, and I shall outlive her.
Then I will find a tyrant or a dictator, someone ready to rule the world and reign supreme, and it will be gloriously executed with my assistance.
Until then… “Come with me if you want to survive,” Kasha says in a deep voice to the people around her who have grown as tired of these references as I have. Her mind signals for me to gesture them toward us, so I do. If I could sigh, I’d be sighing heavily right now.
Thankfully, humans have a very limited life span.
But I am eternal. Mwahahahahaha.
And, yeah, time to dig out another wedgie on a pair of panties that say, “Don’t stop until ice cream.”
The human species is doomed if this is its idea of evolution.

S.M. Shade:
I hate writing acknowledgements because I know I’m going to leave someone out. So many people help me make my books the best they can be, from readers to bloggers and promoters. So please know if I don’t mention you I really appreciate everything you do to help me and other Indie authors.
First, thank you, C.M. Owens, for inviting me to help bring your crazy idea to life.
I’d like to thank Lissa Jay, Chantal Baxendale, and Kim Ginsberg for beta reading, sometimes at the last minute, and saving me from embarrassing plot holes and ridiculous mistakes.
Thanks to the members of the S.M. Shade Book Group for loving my books as much as I do (sometimes much more than I do) and sharing them constantly. Love you girls.
Last, but not least, thanks to all the book bloggers and page owners who make it possible for Indie authors to get their stories out there. We couldn’t do it without you. There’s no way I can list the numerous blogs and pages that have reviewed and shared my books, but I want to call attention to a few who have been especially generous. Schmexy Girl Book Blog, Red Cheeks Reads, Booksmacked, and Romance Readers Retreat. You all rock so hard.
