Everything about her turned him on. He’d always been partial to her bare shoulders for some reason. They were delicate and smooth, and when he nibbled on them, he could smell the mint of her shampoo.
He selfishly admitted that her moving to Boston was the best possible scenario for him. And living together was turning out to be a pleasant surprise as well. Getting to see his best friend every day, not to mention having twenty-four seven access to her bountiful curves, was definitely an upgrade.
He stopped beside her chair and cleared his throat. “Sorry, ladies, but I need to steal this one away for a moment.”
He took Darcy’s hand and pulled her toward the small dance floor the hotel staff had created by clearing out some tables. Darcy let him tug her against him, and he ran his fingers around her waist to rest on the small of her back. He tucked her hand against his heart and began to sway to the music.
“What will all your employees think of this scandalous display of affection for a subcontractor?” she whispered into his ear.
“Probably that I’m one lucky bastard.”
Darcy had agreed to a retainer with Rolland Construction after the Wellington project closed. She’d worked a few other projects since then, but all of them were relatively small and didn’t account for much of her workload.
Her hips moved against his, and he nuzzled into the bend of her neck, placing a soft kiss on her delicate skin. He smiled when he felt a shiver move through her.
“Wanna get out of here?” he asked.
She moved her head back to look at him. “We’ve only been here a little over an hour.”
“I know, but the bartender and I have a bet going about your undergarments. He thinks you’re wearing some. I say you aren’t.”
Her eyes widened. “Are you shitting me?”
He smiled and started to guide her back to their table, where he scooped up her purse. “Would I kid about something as serious as your lingerie?” he whispered.
She pursed her lips, and he knew she was trying to decide if he was serious. He led her by the hand through his co-workers straight out the exit to the bank of elevators in the hotel lobby.
“Why are we getting on the elevator?”
He smiled and held the door open for her. “You’ll see.”
She eyed him carefully as she stepped inside and watched him as he pushed the button for the fourth floor. “What are you up to, Sean McKenna?”
He just smiled at her while he leisurely raked his eyes down her body. “I told you. I have a bet with the bartender.”
“I could just tell you whether I’m wearing any underwear.”
“Don’t ruin my fun,” he complained.
When the elevator doors opened, Sean led her into the hallway and down to the end of the corridor. He pulled a room key from his pocket, sliding it in until he heard a sharp click. He pushed the suite door open and ushered Darcy inside. She was trying to hide her smile but was failing miserably.
She walked to the middle of the ornate room and turned in a circle like she hadn’t spent day after day in each suite overseeing the design details. Sean closed the door and watched her as she ran her fingertips along the cushioned divan just underneath the window.
Everything about the room was alluring and elegant, done in soft grays and off-whites. She moved to the desk, where a bottle of champagne sat on ice. He approached her and looked over her shoulder to read the note in her hand.

“Are we staying here tonight?”
“Yep.”
She smiled at him, her dark eyes sparkling with excitement. “But all these rooms have been booked through the summer at least.”
Sean shrugged. “I know a guy.”
He walked over to the grand king-size bed and leaned against the upholstered footboard. She approached him slowly, pulling her bottom lip between her teeth. She ran her fingertips along the edge of his belt.
“What’s the occasion?”
Sean watched her with hooded eyes as her fingers toyed with his belt buckle. “No occasion. Just that I love you.”
She raised her face to his, and he saw his whole world there. He saw his past and his present. But more important, he saw his future, and it looked fucking amazing.
She pressed her lips tenderly against his, letting her tongue wet his bottom lip. “I love you too, Sean.”
He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her against him as he deepened the kiss. He slowly inched her skirt up her thighs until the tips of his fingers touched her flushed skin. Moving them higher, he felt the edge of her satin panties.
“Well, darn. Looks like I lost that bet.”
She sucked his bottom lip into her mouth before giving it a sharp bite that took Sean’s dick straight from hard to granite.
“Did you seriously make a bet with the bartender about my underwear?”
“No. He wasn’t interested in your underwear. In fact, I think he was more interested in mine.”
She looked to the ceiling and laughed.
That always had been his favorite sound. And it always would be.
