“Mitch,” she screamed as her finger pinched her clit and she fell over the edge, her hand snaking around my neck, holding on.
I thrust one last time and buried my face in her neck as my cum exploded inside of her, filling her. “Fuck,” I growled. “Mine.”
She wrapped her legs around my waist, and I gave one last thrust, both of our bodies shivering as the last tremors of our orgasms rocked our bodies. I collapsed on top of her, my arms no longer able to hold me.
“I love you, Mitch,” she breathed out. Her arms wrapped tight around me, and I felt her body shake under me.
I leaned back, saw tears streaming down her face and wiped them away with my thumb. “What’s wrong, Sparky?”
“I love you, and I almost pushed you away because I was too caught up in what I should be doing instead of just listening to my heart.”
“I wasn’t going anywhere. No matter how much you tried to push me away, I was always going to be here.” I pressed a kiss to her lips and smiled down at her. “I knew what you meant when you said you needed to know if you could do it on your own, but I knew that you were never going to be on your own again. You’re stuck with me.” I rolled off of her and gathered her in my arms. “I fell in love with you that night we went golfing with Levi. I saw you as not only the hottest woman I’d ever seen but also as the woman who I want to spend the rest of my life with.”
“We’re so crazy, Mitch,” she laughed.
“Yeah, we may be, but who the hell cares.”
She closed her eyes and rested her head on my shoulder and sighed. “Can we just stay here and forget about the world.”
“For tonight, we can, Scar. Tonight it’s just you and me.”
She snuggled into me and wrapped her arms around my waist. “Can I ask a question?”
“Sure.”
“Did you ever find Kurt?”
“I thought we were going to forget about the world tonight?” Kurt was the last thing I wanted to think about right now.
“I’ve been worried all week, but I didn’t want to ask.”
“We have no idea where he is. He came back in the middle of the night we think, cleared out all of his stuff he needed, and then he was gone again.” From what we could tell, he had taken most of his tools and some of his clothes. If you were to walk into his room, you wouldn’t be able to tell he was gone. That was the only thing that gave us hope that he might come back.
“Do you think he’s still around here?”
“I don’t know. We’ve all gotten offers to go race other places, but we never took them. I think someone may have talked to Kurt at the right time, and he took it. Leelee has been quiet since he left, basically moping around the shop.”
“I think something happened between those two, but neither of them is willing to talk about it.” I looked down at Scarlett, and her eyes were closed as she talked. “Leelee had said that she had messed things up between the two, but she didn’t say how.”
“I don’t know, Scar. Luke’s talked to everyone he knows, letting them know that he’s looking for Kurt, but he hasn’t heard anything yet. I have to believe he’ll come home soon.”
“I hope so, Mitch.”
“Me too, Sparky, me too.” I slipped out of bed, grabbed my t-shirt and threw it at Scarlett. “Put that on in case Levi wakes up before we do.”
She sat up and pulled it over her head and leaned over the edge of the bed and grabbed her underwear. “Good thinking,” she giggled. She shimmied them up her legs and laid back down, pulling the covers up to her chin.
I grabbed my boxers and pulled them on. “Fucking sexy as hell,” I said shaking my head. I turned off the light and opened the door so we could here Levi if he needed us.
“I think you might have this whole dad thing down pat already,” Scarlett said as I slid back into bed and pulled her into my arms.
“Well, I love you both, so I figure I can’t fuck things up too badly then.”
She reached up, cupping my face and stroked my cheek. “I don’t know how I got so lucky to have you come into my life, Mitch, but I know I’m one lucky girl.”
I leaned down and pressed a kiss to her lips. “We’re both lucky, Scar.”
She rested her head on my shoulder and placed her hand over my heart. “I love you, Mitch.”
“I love you, too, Scar.”

Chapter 34
Scarlett
“I didn’t miss any races, right?”
It was Friday night and Violet, Leelee and I were sitting on the tailgate of Luke’s truck waiting for the race to start. The past week had been amazing, and I hoped that things only got better. Levi was with Frankie at the shop right now and after the race, Mitch and I planned on heading back to his place and spending the night there.
“Yup. Last week was canceled because of rain.” Violet and I were both sipping on Coronas while Leelee was just drinking water.
“Not up for drinking tonight?” I asked her.
“Naw. I drove myself here tonight. I had to drop Jay off at football camp. He’s gone for the next six weeks. I just managed to scrape up enough money and sell my soul to the devil to get him in so you can bet your ass he wasn’t going to miss that bus.” She twisted the cap back on her bottle and set it next to her.
“Six weeks, wow. That’s basically the whole summer.” I couldn’t imagine Levi being gone for six weeks.
“Yeah, but I think it’ll be good for him, plus he’s pretty fucking amazing at football. He’s hoping to get a football scholarship, and I think he’s got a pretty good shot.”
“That would be awesome. Maybe we’ll all have to come to some of his games this fall.”
Leelee just nodded her head and looked away. Violet looked at me, and all I could do was shrug my shoulders. This wasn’t the first time we had tried to talk to Leelee, and she had shut us down. It seemed the longer Kurt was gone, the more withdrawn she became.
“Race is starting.” Luke walked over and tossed his arm over Violet’s shoulders. My eyes were trained on Mitch’s car, and I felt my nerves build as I watched the flag girl nod at each car. I had breathed a sigh of relief when AZ hadn’t shown up to race tonight, although he was here. Everyone was trying to figure out why he was here if he didn’t plan on racing. He was parked three cars over with a crowd of girls and hangers-on around him.
The girl in the middle of the road raised her hands over her head then dropped them and the cars took off. Mitch was only racing against two other cars tonight and Luke had said that Mitch had this in the bag.
“He’s fast off the line when I’m not racing him.” I looked over my shoulder and saw AZ standing on the side of the truck. He looked as sleazy and nasty as I had first thought. I couldn’t see why all of these girls were hanging around him.
“Fast off the line don’t mean shit in street racing, AZ. If you knew anything you would know that.” Luke turned around and crossed his arms over his chest.
AZ shrugged his shoulders and leaned against the truck. “I’ll beat him next week.”
“Is that all you came over here to say?” Leelee smarted off.
AZ sneered at her and pushed off the truck. “You might want to keep your girl in check here, Luke.”
“I’m not anyone’s girl.” Leelee hopped off the truck and stormed over to AZ. Luke grabbed her arm and pulled her behind him. “Fuck off, AZ,” Leelee shouted over Luke’s shoulder.
AZ pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and put it in the corner of his mouth. “Such a mouth on that one.” He lit the end of his cigarette and blew the smoke in Luke’s direction. “I didn’t come over here to play with the dirty Mexican.” Leelee lunged out from behind Luke, clawing to get her hands on AZ, but Luke grabbed her around the waist and hauled her back behind him.
“Spit out whatever the fuck you have to say, AZ, and then get fucking lost.”
AZ’s eyes traveled over Violet and me, and a sick smile w
as on his face that made my skin crawl. “I hear you’ve been looking for your brother. I might know where he is.”
“Fucking tell me.”
“Well, from where I’m standing, I don’t owe you a damn thing, but you might have something I want that I might be willing to take in exchange for the info I have on Kurt.”
AZ stepped towards me but Luke stepped in front of him, cutting him off. “Think twice before you do what you’re thinking. You mess with Mitch’s woman you’re not only messing with him; you’re messing with me, too.”
“Ah, such brotherly love. Too bad Mitch isn’t here right now.” AZ moved to push Luke out of the way, and Violet moved into me, blocking me from AZ.
Luke moved fast and put his hand on AZ’s throat and slammed him into the cab of the truck. “Tell me what you fucking know and if you’re lucky, I’ll let you walk away without a limp.” Luke squeezed his throat, and AZ’s face turned red as he struggled to get out of the hold Luke had on him.
“West,” he wheezed. “He went west.”
“Where?”
“California. He got an offer to race out there.” He hit Luke’s arm, trying to knock it away. “That’s all I fucking know.”
Luke squeezed his neck one last time then let him go and stepped back. AZ hunched over, grabbing his neck and gasped for air. “You’re gonna fucking pay for that.”
Luke grabbed him by the hair and yanked his head up. “No, I don’t fucking think so. You still owe me a ten-second car, but I’m feeling forgiving at the moment. Get the fuck out of my sight before I change my mind and beat the shit out of you.” Luke threw him against the truck and turned his back to AZ. He walked back over to Violet, who wrapped her arms around Luke and buried her face in his neck.
AZ slinked away, glaring back at us the whole way but was smart enough to keep his mouth shut. “You should have let me scratch his fucking eyes out, Luke,” Leelee spat.
“He’s not fucking worth it, Leelee. Chill out, sit down and watch the fucking race,” Luke ordered.
Leelee crossed her arms over her chest and walked back over to sit next to me but kept her eyes on AZ’s retreating back. “Fucking prick,” she mumbled under her breath.
I could hear the roar of engines in the distance, and I knew it wouldn’t be long until Mitch, and the other two cars would come screeching across the finish line.
“You OK?” Luke asked me.
I nodded my head. “Yeah, I’m fine.” Thankfully AZ hadn’t touched me, but it still felt like he had when he eyed me up. I grabbed my beer, downing the rest of it and tossed the empty bottle in the empty bucket Luke had in the back of his truck. The roar of engines and squealing tires loudened and then Mitch came tearing around the corner with the two other cars right on his tail.
Mitch roared across the finish line, and the crowd cheered and crowded the street as the last two cars crossed the finish line. I watched Mitch slow down the car then turn around and head into the crowd. He stopped his car in front of the truck, and I hopped down from the tailgate.
I weaved my way to the car and threw myself into Mitch’s arms. I wrapped my arms tight around him and held on.
“You happy I won?” Mitch laughed. All I could do was nod my head. Mitch tilted my head back and frowned at me. “Why the hell are you crying?” He asked as he wiped my tears from my cheeks.
“She’s fine. It just appears AZ took a shine to her.” I turned my head and saw Luke, Violet and Leelee had followed me.
“He touched her?” Mitch growled,
“No. I didn’t let him. He came over talking shit and said he had info on Kurt, but the only way he would tell us is if we gave him something he wanted.”
“He better not have laid a fucking finger on Scar, Luke. I’ll fucking kill him if he did.” Mitch wrapped his arms tight around me.
“He didn’t, I swear. I pushed him up against the truck before he could get to Scarlett.” Luke put his arm around Violet and pulled her close. “You know I wouldn’t let anything happen to Scarlett.”
Mitch nodded his head and pressed a kiss against the side of my head. “You find out what he knows about Kurt.”
“He says he’s in California. I don’t have many connections out there, but I’ll see what I can dig up. He obviously doesn’t want us to find him, so I don’t know how hard I’ll dig.”
“Just find him and make sure he’s OK, Luke.”
Luke nodded his head and pulled Violet back in the crowd. Leelee wandered off in the other direction and Mitch looked down at me. “You swear he didn’t touch you, right?”
“I promise. It was just the way he looked at me, Mitch.”
“I won’t let anything happen to you, Scar. All that bullshit of being hurt is behind you. I’ll kill anyone who puts a hand on you,” Mitch vowed.
I reached up, cupping his face in my hand, stood on my tiptoes and pressed a kiss to his lips. “I believe you. Thank you.” I had never had that before in my life, and I knew now that no matter how logical I wanted to be, that was something you didn’t throw away. Whether you had known the person a month or ten years. Mitch was giving me everything I had ever wanted, and there was only one thing I could give back to him; my heart. “I love you, Mitch.”
“I love you, too, Scarlett. Till my last breath, I’ll love you and Levi. Nothing will stop me.” He pressed a kiss to my forehead, and I leaned into him.
This was it. This was what I always wanted and needed, and I wasn’t going to let it go, ever.

Chapter 35
Leelee
I grabbed my phone off of the dresser and saw a number that I didn’t know. My first thought was that something was wrong with Jay, but I had programmed all of the camp’s phone numbers into my phone so I knew it couldn’t be them.
I glanced at the time and saw that it was half-past two. Any phone call after ten o’clock at night was not a good one, and I was afraid to answer. I swiped left and put the phone to my ear. “Hello?”
“Hello, this is Grace from St. Peter’s Hospital in Burbank.”
Burbank? St Peter’s hospital? What the fuck was going on? “Um, OK,” I mumbled into the phone.
“I’m calling because your number was the only one we could find on a Kurt Jensen.”
I jack-knifed off the bed and clutched the phone in my hand. “Kurt? Kurt is in the hospital?”
“Yes, ma’am. There’s been an accident, and we’re looking for his next of kin. Is that you?”
Was I Kurt’s next of kin? “Yes, I’m his wife.” At least on paper I was.
