I just hope his need for family doesn’t get Lacie hurt or worse. The bitch was beautiful, but very naïve of this world.

  Chapter 3

  Lacie

I didn’t leave the room until Ryan returned that afternoon. I remembered how happy he was as he took me back in the room where they held Church and told me about the General Surgeons position that was open at the local hospital. He pulled some strings and I had an interview with the chief of staff the next day.

Ryan wanted me near and I liked the idea of being a family again. It didn’t take much convincing after I was offered the job at the hospital. Everything was falling into place and I was taking that as a good sign.

I went back to Oklahoma, gave my two weeks, packed up, and left my best friend. She was sad, but she was close to her family so she understood. I made her promise to come visit me soon and after telling her how hot most the guys in the club where, she promised to come very soon.

Ryan said he would take care of finding me a place to live and everything I needed. He only had one condition, that I stop calling him Ryan and call him Force. I knew it would take some time, but I had to respect it. Ryan was the name our parents gave him and now our parents were dead. One physically and the other was dead to us mentally.

Most of the guys were okay with Lacie coming to live here, but Titan voiced his concerns every chance he got. I wasn’t an idiot, I understood why dad kept her away from this life. I understood why most of the men didn’t have families. I knew our paths all lead to death, but I could keep her safe. I just needed her here. She was all I had beside this club. When it came to women, she was the only one I trusted.

“Prez we got a problem. The Crippler gang out of Dallas can’t meet till next Tuesday to get their guns.” Brut was sweating and I could see the vain on the side of his head bulging.

“I don’t see the problem Brut. We don’t have anything on Tuesday and we don’t meet with the Diablo cartel till the next week.” I said in a very calm voice. Brut was a panic attack just waiting to happen. If the littlest thing didn’t go as planned he freaked the fuck out.

“Lacie will be here by then Prez. I thought we wanted to get this out of the way before she got here.” He said as Logan gave him a glass of water and a chair.

“We are meeting them a hundred miles out and Lace starts work at the hospital next Monday. She will be too busy with her new job to worry about us. It will be fine, I promise.” I patted Brut on the shoulder and hoped this would put his mind at ease.

“We have too many deals coming up Prez. Now was not a good time to have Lace coming to live with us. We need to get the cartel shit out of the way. Plus the fuckin Hellfires are breathing down our necks and just waiting on us to mess up so they can sweep in and take our business.” Titan addressed the whole club like he was running the place now.

Titan wasn’t wrong, but I needed Lace here. I would keep her safe. Fuck she was safer here at the compound than she was a whole state away. And one day when the time was right I would tell her about the guns and how we made a living. Right now though I needed to tell this big mother fucker to get off my back.

“Titan you need to take a look at your patch and then look at my patch. Which one says President?” I didn’t give him time to answer. “Mine does, so that means this is my club and what I say goes. She is coming to live with us. End of story! She will be safe here. We don’t handle any business at the compound and I have made the rules very clear to her. Now I know you would all take a bullet for me or any brother in this room, but right now I need to know that you would all take a bullet for Lacie too.” I went around the table and looked each of the brothers in the eye and waited for a nod.

I looked at Titan last and when he gave me his nod I gave a nod back so he knew I meant business. I trusted the big fucker with my life, but the fact that he was all business worried me. As far as I knew he didn’t have any family. He was patched in three years ago by my old man. He was smart, tough as shit, and loyal to a fault.

“Okay one more thing before I dismiss. Lacie will be here in a few hours. Everyone better make her feel welcome. And no one, I mean no one is to fuck with her. She is family not pussy. You fuckers can get pussy anywhere, you stay away from hers. Also make sure all the club sluts are made aware not to fuck with her. I can tell y’all from experience, you do not want to be on the other end of her rage. My damn nose still hurts.” I said as I reached up and touched my nose thinking back to when she clocked me.

“You have our word Prez.” They all chimed in at the same time.

“Wolf you and Tex have your ol’ ladies stop by tonight and welcome Lacie. She needs to have some friends here and I rather them be old ladies that I trust.” The last thing I needed was a bunch of nosy bitches from the hospital up in here.

I felt like the butterflies in my stomach were going to bust out and fly away at any time as I pulled in to the compound. I had only been gone a couple weeks, but it felt like a life time. I was a different person since the last time I pulled up to these gates. The old me would have never been able to quit her job and leave the only friend she ever had.

As the gates opened I saw all the guys coming from the one door on the club house. The look on Force’s face let me know I made the right decision. We were forced to grow up without each other, so now we would take this time and reconnect. We owed that to ourselves and to dad.

“Lace you must drive like dad, I wasn’t excepting you for at least another hour.” Force said as he picked me up and spun me.

“Sara and I couldn’t take the goodbyes anymore so I got up early this morning and got on the road.” That and I was so nervous, I hadn’t eaten or drank anything so I didn’t have to stop at all.

“Well I’m glad you’re here. Logan have the prospects unload her car.” He commanded.

I felt my heart drop as I stopped walking and just stood there in shock. “Wait, What? Why are they unloading my stuff here? I thought you were getting me a place to live?”

“Chill out. I want you to stay here for a while, till you learn the town more and meet some more people. I don’t feel safe with you living outside of the compound. You don’t know anyone and you don’t know where anything is.” Force put his hand up to block his face as he spoke.

“Yeah, you better block your face. You could have told me this weeks ago instead of just springing it on me. I’m a big girl Force, I won’t get lost and I won’t talk to strangers. I know all about stranger danger. Plus I carry a gun.” I said as I pulled the small pistol from my purse.

“Holy hell Lace! Tell me you have a permit to carry that?” Force said as he took the pistol from my hands.

“Well of course I have a permit. I’m really not as dumb as you think I am. And it’s not my only gun. I am a straight shot so try not to piss me off.” I said as I took my gun back and put it in my purse.

“Not dumb Lace, but I think you might be a little naïve. I get the feeling you were pretty sheltered most your life.” He took 3 steps back as he talked. “Wait? How many guns do you have?

“You can get out of my swinging range all you want, but like I said, I’m a straight shot.” I smirked and walked right past him. The other guys were standing a few feet away with their mouths open and eyes wide.

I walked in the club and looked around. It was pretty dark and smelled like beer. I wondered to myself what they would think if I tried to decorate or at least clean. I would worry about that later, right now I needed to find out where I was staying. Surely to god I wasn’t going to be sharing a room with Force.

I was lost in thought when I saw the prospects walk around me with my stuff and head down the hall. They didn’t go to the end so maybe that was a good sign.

“Lace your room is second on the left. It has a pretty good size closet and your own bathroom. It was Wolf’s old room. He had a small bed so I had the prospects go get you a new
queen size and put it up.” Force spoke up from behind me.

“Where is Wolf going to stay?” I said feeling a little bad about taking his room.

“At his house with his ol’ lady. He wasn’t living here full time anyways. He was just hiding out here.” Him and the rest of the guys erupted with laughter.

“Don’t worry princess, I can sleep on the couch here if my bitch throws me out.” Wolf said as he patted me on the back. I was really starting to like being called Princess by the older man.

“If she finds out you are calling her a bitch you will probably spend a lot of time on that couch.” I said bluntly.

“Darlin in our world “Bitch” is the highest compliment a gal can get.” Tex said with his deep southern drawl.

“Oh, well you learn something new every day. So what do you call women you don’t like?” I asked.

“Cunt!” They all said in unison.

“Okay! Good to know.” I said and walked to my new room.

Beverly was Wolf’s old lady and I’m pretty sure my new mother figure. She was older and a little rough around the edges. She had long blonde hair and deep tanned skin. She wore leather pants and a matching leather halter top. Her boobs were huge and so was her smile. She walked up and gave me the biggest hug of my life and I instantly loved her.

Karly arrived with Bev and I could tell they were very close. Karly was Tex’s old lady. She was younger than Beverly, but still older than me. She had short black hair and wore tight jeans with boots. I could tell she wasn’t my biggest fan, but she was giving me a chance.

It took all weekend, but I finally got all unpacked and settled in. Cleaning the entire clubhouse was next on my to do list, but that would have to wait till after work.

The guys all wished me good luck on my first day and as I walked out the door to the club house I couldn’t help but feel like Snow White. Only difference was instead of seven dwarfs I had ten badass bikers.

By the end of the day I was convinced I made the right choice by moving out here. The hospital was half the size of what I was used to. I only had two days a week of surgery and two days of pre-ops, post-ops, and making rounds. Friday I would be on call, but off for the most part.

I was in such a good mood I decided to make the guys a big dinner. I could tell they had some doubts about me living there and I wanted to show them I could be useful. Well one tall, hot, ill-tempered biker had doubts, the rest of them seem to be adjusting well.

“What is that amazing smell?” Logan said as he came almost running into the kitchen.

“It’s meatloaf with potatoes and carrots and it’s almost done so go clean up. And tell the rest of the guys to clean up too.” I yelled as he ran to the bathroom.

I had never cooked so much food in my life. I was sure this was what it felt like to work in a restaurant or maybe school cafeteria. Well if being a doctor didn’t work out I had something to fall back on.

“Lace, Logan is screaming something about meatloaf and wash your hands.” Force said as he entered the kitchen.

“What part of it did you not understand? I made meatloaf and you need to go wash your hands.” I turned around to look at him, but he was already out the door.

My heart melted a little as I brought the meatloaf out. All the guys were sitting quietly around the table and I realized this was my new family. This was my new normal and I loved it. Beverly and Karly showed up just in time to eat and were a big help when it came to cleaning up.

“Darlin if you keep cooking for those men they might give up club sluts and try to marry you.” Bev said followed by a deep chuckle.

“What the hell are club sluts?” I questioned.

“Oh honey, you haven’t seen the club sluts yet?” Karly asked me.

  “No. Should I be worried?”

“No, No. You have nothing to worry about. Some weekends, but mostly if the guys are going on or coming back from a ride they have parties and when they have parties the club sluts come out. Club sluts will do whatever they have to, to get in bed with a member. Most old ladies start out as sluts and frequent one member’s bed till they get him hooked.” Bev talked as I stared in horror at the thought of these women hanging around. “Karly and I were lucky. We’ve known our men since high school.”

“Wait, didn’t Force say they were going on a ride tomorrow? When they get home are these club sluts going to be waiting? Should I bring home condoms and penicillin shots from the hospital?” I was only half joking.

Karly was taking a drink of beer and shot most of it out of her nose. Beverly smiled and nodded her head like it might be a good idea.

“Tomorrow is just a short ride. They will probably be home before you get off. When I say ride I mean they will be gone for at least a few days, sometimes a few weeks.” Beverly explained to clear up my confusion.

There was still so much I did not know about, but I was thankful to have these two rough bitches to help me when I was lost. I had several more questions about the rides, but I gave it a rest for the night as I processed everything else I learned.

A few weeks pasted and I was falling into a very comfortable routine at work and at the compound. I had made a few friends at the hospital, but felt I should keep my personal life separate. I wasn’t sure how the people of Athens felt about the Devil’s Descendants and I didn’t want to jeopardize my career.

Looks and appearance were everything so some people. I remembered how scared I was the first time I saw the compound and all the guys. I could only imagine what a bunch of doctors and nurses would think of me living with a motorcycle club. I could hear my mother calling me white trash and a whore now.

Life at the compound was going good too. I was cooking dinner most nights for everyone with the help of Bev and Karly. After dinner they were teaching me how to shoot pool and throw darts. Some nights the guys would have business to attend too so I would curl up on the couch and watch a movie. Occasionally a couple of the guys would join me and I would ask them questions about their lives or childhood.

Titan never joined in, but he was always there. I would notice him playing pool if the guys were teaching me darts or playing darts if we were playing pool. If I was huddled up on the main couch talking to the guys, he was over on one of the other couches, but never participated in the conversation.

“Lace I’ve been meaning to talk to you about this weekend.” Force said as he greeted me with a cup of coffee before I left for work.

“What about this weekend? It must be bad if you’re making my coffee for me.” I questioned.

“Not bad, just going to be new for you and I don’t want you to freak out.” His eyes searched my face as he waited for me to react. “We are having a party Friday night.”

I thought back to the conversation I had with Bev about parties and club sluts. I knew it would happen sooner or later. “Why would I freak out? Bev has already told me about these parties. I know it’s part of the club lifestyle.”

“I’m sure Bev left some shit out to spare you the details. I won’t be offended if you don’t want to come. I’m sure you could stay the night at Bev’s or Karly’s house. Just lock your bedroom door.” Force said the last part real fast and then ran to the meeting room like he was on fire.

Lock my door? Just what the fuck did they do at these parties?

Whatever, I was too tired to chase him down. I did five surgeries Wednesday and six the day before. I just wanted to get my rounds over and take a nap. I usually make dinner on Thursday nights, but I could already tell it wasn’t happening tonight. Wonder if I need to make dips or a veggie tray for the party?

“Hello!” Bev answered on the forth ring.

“Hey, it’s Lacie. I have a question about this party the guys are having.” I said shyly.

“I would imagine you have several questions about the party.” Bev laughed.

“Well actually I do, but only one for now. Should I make dip
s or maybe a veggie tray? I could make cookies too. The guys love when I make cookies.” I was pretty caught up in how I could cater this party when I heard an enormous amount of laughter coming from the other end of the phone.

“Oh darling, you’re killing me. I can’t wait to see the look on everyone’s face when you bust out a veggie tray.” She continued to laugh and mock me, but my attention was directed at a black car that I noticed had been behind me since I pulled into town.

“Hey Bev, I’ll have to call you back later. I’m pulling in work.” And with that I hung up.

I wasn’t at work yet, but I knew if I alarmed her she would call my brother. He was the last person I needed coming to the hospital freaking out over something that is probably just my crazy imagination.

I turned a block before the hospital just to see if they would follow and they did. I knew I would be safe in the hospital parking lot so I turned on the next block and went directly to the guarded lot. When I pulled in the black car went straight. It was strange, but I didn’t want to tell anyone until I had more proof.

  Chapter 4

  Lacie

I found an empty table in the cafeteria and sat down with a salad and charts that needed updating. The morning had been busy and I was in desperate need for caffeine. I got up and went to the nearest vending machine. I decided it was going to be a two can Mt. Dew lunch. I was walking back to my table when I realized two oddly dressed people walking towards me.

An older gentleman in dress pants and a button up shirt with no tie. He was accompanied by a woman in her late thirties and by the expression on her face I could tell she had a large stick up her ass. She too was in dress slacks and a button up shirt with no tie. She wore no make-up and her hair was just thrown back in a ponytail. I hated to be the one to tell her that pant suits on a woman were ridiculous, but she was headed right for me so I felt it was my obligation.
