Alicia smiled an embarrassed apology to the preacher and to Cameron. Soft laughter rose from the amused audience behind them. “What, honey?” Alicia asked.
“I got my fingers double, double crossed for a baby sister,” Rebecca exclaimed.
As the people in the chairs laughed, Cameron picked Rebecca up in his arms. “That’s funny. I’ve got my fingers double, double crossed for the same thing,” he said.
“Really and truly?” Rebecca asked.
He nodded, eyes twinkling. “Cross my cowboy heart,” he said.
Rebecca turned to the people behind them. “And cowboys never lie,” she announced.
Amid the laughter, witnessed by friends, Alicia and Cameron said the vows that would bind them together forever. As the preacher proclaimed them man and wife and Cameron’s lips claimed hers in a fiery kiss filled with promise and love, Alicia knew she would never run again.
