She takes a deep breath and sip of water before she continues. “We have decided to bring in reinforcements. I have summoned my four children home, and they will begin to take over the day to day operations of the lodge. It’s near the end of the fall season, so I would like to schedule another meeting for Monday morning for formal introductions. All of my children will be here this weekend and we will determine to what extent they will be taking charge in each area.” She takes the time to look at each of us as she scans the room before continuing.
“I want to thank each and every one of you, for being a part of the Winter Haven Ski Lodge and Mountain Resort family. We could not run a successful business without you. If you have any questions or concerns during the transition, please feel free to let me know.”
Well, that was not at all what I expected. It does however explain the touch of sadness I’ve noticed in her eyes the past couple of weeks. I’m sure the stress of trying to get the lodge ready for the season was more than she could handle. I have to admire her for admitting it was too much, and for asking her children to come help. I continue to watch as several employees step forward and say a few words to her. Just before she exits the room, she once again smiles and connects with each of us, looking a little relieved that this part is over. I, on the other hand, am not sure if I should be nervous or excited about getting a new boss. For now, I’ll go with excited. I mean how bad can it be, working with the next generation of Buchanan’s?
My husband deserves more credit than I can give on paper. He continues to let me go on this journey with his support, and I love him for it. Through all the times I would be writing while we watched movies, or even when I eventually took over his work desk, he just let me do what I needed. I love you more.
There are so many other people who have helped and encouraged me to write this book. Some of them will never understand how much I truly love them.
