  “Baby—”

“I didn’t mean to kill her. I swear to God, I didn’t mean to kill her.” He was biting his nails off to the point that it started to bleed.

“Let’s go,” I said as I grabbed his hand and quickly left. I didn’t want Diamond to hear him.

“Fuck!” he yelled when we finally got into the car. “Fuck, fuck, fuck!” He began to pound the steering wheel.

“Baby, calm down and tell me what’s wrong,” I said calmly as I placed my hands around his arms and pulled them away from the steering wheel.

  “Kasha… I killed her. She’s dead. Fuck!”

“Why would you kill Kasha?” I asked.

“It was an accident. I was… fuck, man!” He started the ignition and threw the car in drive.

“If it’s a dead body in the trunk, don’t you think you should slow down?” I asked in a calm tone. The last thing I wanted to do was make the situation worse than it already was.

“Okay. You’re right,” he said as he slammed his foot on the brake and then went at a reasonable speed.

I shook my head, but I didn’t criticize that dumb ass move. He was clearly scared out of his mind.

“Explain to me what’s going on.”

“Kasha and I had something going on, but we never spoke about it. You know? It was our little secret. But remember earlier today when you came to my place and I rushed you out?” he asked.

  “Yes.”

  “That bitch was there.”

“What did she want?” I asked.

“She was asking for money. The bitch lied about everything. She’s not a lawyer, she doesn’t live in Paris, and that wasn’t even her real fucking hair!”

  “So how did she die?”

“We were having sex… and… and… I choked her. I choked her to death, but I swear I didn’t mean to.”

“Why were y’all having sex and y’all didn’t get along?” I asked.

  “I don’t fucking know, Red! Okay? I don’t know!”

  “Calm down.”

“I can’t fucking calm down! Stop telling me that shit!”

“Okay, calm down,” I said. I didn’t know what else to say. Hell, I’d never been in a situation like this. “Where are we going?”

“Orchard Beach. Near the Bronx. I’m going to dump her there, I just needed help.”

  “And you chose me?”

“I chose Emo, but he had some more shit going on. It’s all bad.”

For the rest of the ride, we rode in silence. This was all surreal for me. I signed up for a fake marriage, not to be an accessory to murder. On the way to the Bronx, I had to tell him too many times to slow down. He was literally out of his mind and it was aggravating me.

Finally, we pulled up to our destination. It took us way too long to get that body out of the trunk, but we did.

Two hours later, we found ourselves pulling back into my building. I was scared because all I wanted to do was shower.

“You know what, just let me out right here,” I said as I noticed that Yazz had led us right back to his place.

“Ain’t you forgetting something?” The driver asked as I stepped out the cab.

“Right,” I said as I reached down in my purse and paid him.

“See ya!” He sped off and flipped me off.

  “Jerk!” I yelled after him.

When I got inside the lobby, I stopped by the restroom first and urinated. Then I finally got on the elevator and went up to Yazz’s floor. Knowing that Frizzy wasn’t there, I pulled my key out. I really wanted to know what business he had to tend to.

“What the fuck?” I asked as I stepped inside and saw Yazz standing there in front of a familiar face.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” Yazz asked, walking over to me.

When he got closer, I whispered into his ear with my eyes still on the woman. “I thought you killed her…” I mumbled.

  Chapter Eleven

  Diamond

“This is it,” the taxi driver said as he pulled up in front of Marcy projects.

  “Thank you so much.”

I paid the driver and grabbed Rena. Looking at the paper again, I saw the apartment number that I needed to go to.

“Ay, lil’ mama, you need a step dad for ya daughter?” I heard someone yell. I couldn’t tell who said it because it was a lot of people out in front, so I just kept walking until I got inside the rat infested hallway.

“Excuse me,” I said to a junkie who was nodding off.

He didn’t respond, so I walked past him, trying not to hit him with Rena’s bag. I kept walking until I reached my designated floor. I knocked on the door, hoping I wouldn’t get shot. I heard some yelling going on inside.

Finally, a girl answered the door. She kinda reminded me of red, but was high yellow with short hair.

“See, you always got some bitch snooping around! And this better not be your baby!” She yelled, slamming the door in my face.

  “What the f—”

The door came flying back open. “This ain’t even one of my bitches!” a man yelled.

He was tall, caramel with dimples and tight eyes. He was indeed handsome, with his low cut hair and perfect lips. I could definitely tell that he was related to Yazz and Gee.

“Umm... I… umm… Davinchi wanted me to give you this,” I said as I quickly handed him the letter.

  “Who are you?”

“I’m sorry. Are you Emo?” I asked.

“Yeah, that’s me.” He opened the letter.

“Well, Davinchi told me to drop this off,” I said as I prepared to walk off.

“Hold up. You Diamond, right?” Emo asked.

  “Yeah, why?”

“Oh, okay. My mans, Davinchi, used to talk about you all the time. Thanks for dropping this off, see you soon.”

  “Soon? Why?”

  “You didn’t read the letter?”

  “No, what does it say?”

“I’m going to be giving you money to take to a lawyer and to put on his books. He didn’t tell you?”

What the fuck? “No, he didn’t tell me. But I have to warn you, I’m not going back and forth,” I said.

“Well, how am I going to get it to his lawyer and him? I’m trying to stay low,” he said.

“Who is this bitch?!” the woman yelled from behind him.

“Hold up,” he said before shutting the door.

“Rena, this that bullshit,” I said, knowing she couldn’t understand, but I had to tell someone.

  “Bitch!” I heard him yell

“Ahh!” she screamed. I heard some slapping and a glass break. Then it got silent.

Finally, he came back to the door, wiping blood off his lip. “Give me your number so I can hit you up. Now ain’t a good time.”

“Cool,” I said as I quickly pulled my phone out and put his number into my phone. He made me call his phone right then and there so my number would be in it already.

“I’ll be calling you. Have a nice day, gorgeous.” Before I could respond, he slammed the door shut.

  Chapter Twelve

  Gee

“Then what’s the problem?” My friend, Fero, asked me as we sat on my balcony and smoked Cuban cigars and drank some beer. Drinking alcohol was a rare occurence for me, but I needed it today.

“I just want this to be business,” I said.

“Well, that went out the door the first time you had sex with her. But Kasha isn’t in the picture anymore, so what’s the deal?”

  “I don’t know,” I confessed.

After dropping Diamond off at her place, I went to buy me a Cuban Cigar. There, I saw my friend Fero. Fero wasn’t only my friend, he was my accountant. I had a few more friends, but lately I hadn’t had the time to kick it with them. Having a pregnant, fake fiancé was really running its course on me. Top that off with missing Kasha, I was on the verge of finishing an entire bottle of Vodka all on my own.

“From what you’re telling me, Kasha is done. What are you holding o
n to?” Fero asked as he took a puff of his cigar.

He was right. I couldn’t keep letting Kasha walk in and out of my life, thinking it was okay. She was the only woman I’d ever been in love with, and it was time for serious changes to be made. If she wanted to punish me for things that I didn’t do, then that was her bad. I guess my big issue with this was that I had no idea what the fuck I did. The only thing that add up was the time she started acting this way three years ago. Before that, we’d never had any problems. It was eating away at me. I kept trying to figure out what the fuck I did three years ago. Everything was leading me back there.

“You know what, Fero? You’re absolutely right. It’s nothing holding me back.”

“I’m just saying, this woman is about to have your child, you’re attracted to her, she will soon be your wife and there’s an attraction there from her too. I’m not understanding your logic.”

“But what if we run into problems and she decides not to marry me?” I asked.

“From what you told me about her, I highly doubt that you too will ever encounter those problems.”

“Damn,” is all I could say.

  “Well…”

  “Well, what?” I asked.

  “Give it a shot.”

“You know what? I am. I’m going to give us a try.”

  Chapter Thirteen

  Yazz

“So, you mean to tell me you killed her sister? And not her? How fucking stupid could you be?” Red asked as we stood in my bedroom and watched Kasha pace back and forth in my living room.

“I don’t know, man. Shit confused me too. But even you couldn’t tell the difference,” I said as I looked in my mirror and took a deep breath.

“You mean to tell me, you didn’t fucking know that Kasha had a sister? Gee didn’t either? But they were supposed to be in love?” I asked.

“We knew she had a sister, but we didn’t know about that particular sister.”

“But she knew about y’all?” I asked.

“Clearly.” All I could do was shake my head.

“Go in there and talk to her. We need to find out exactly when her sister started to impersonate her,” Red said.

  “I already know when.”

“So when you claimed y’all slept together… was it her or Kasha?”

“It was the real Kasha. We slept together three years ago when we both got drunk. It was the day that I found out she was married to a man in Paris. And it was also the day she found out that I was stealing from Gee. We got drunk, one thing led to another, and we had sex. We promised to stay out of each other’s way. Before you came in, she told me that after we had sex, she just left Gee alone for good, in fear that I would out her to him anyway.”

“Well, did she tell her sister about it?” Red asked.

“I keep telling you that she did. Ain’t no other explanation.”

“So her sister been down here playing Gee?”

Her saying that made me think of something. Gee and Kasha never had problems until three years ago, when I found out she was married.

“Gee and Kasha never took a break. Her sister just came and picked up where Kasha left off,” I said.

“So what you gonna do?” she asked.

“If she gets in contact with Gee, I’m afraid that this will be all bad for me,” I admitted.

“So what? Just tell her that you will help her find out what happened to her sister because Gee is out on business.”

“Or I could just kill her… again.”

  Chapter Fourteen

  Red

  Later that night…

“I can’t thank you enough for this. Thanks so much,” Kasha said to Yazz as I prepared to take her to Orchard Park.

She thought I was taking her to see Gee.

“No problem. I wish I could take you, but I’m busy. He’s going to be happy to see you,” Yazz said.

“And thanks for dinner. I just can’t thank you enough,” she said to Yazz again.

  I rolled my eyes.

“Okay, see you later,” Yazz said before shutting the door.

Little did she know, he was going to be following right behind us in route to the Bronx.

Since Kasha had a rental, Yazz told her that I would ride with her and show her where Gee was. He said we couldn’t leave her rental in his parking garage, that would lead shit back to him.

“Okay, so where do I go?” Kasha asked as we got into her car.

“To the Bronx. Then, I will tell you where to go from there.”

“Thanks so much, Red. You have no idea how much this means to me.”

“So why not just go to the police?” I asked.

“Have you seen the news lately? They don’t give a fuck about us. If they did, my sister wouldn’t be missing.”

“And you trust that Gee will help you?” I asked.

“I trust Gee with my life.”

“So why aren’t you with him?”

“Excuse me. Is there a problem?” she asked as she side eyed me and pulled her curly hair out of her face.

She was dressed in an all red dress with white heels. Her face was beat to the Gods. Something was telling me that she wanted more than help from Gee. She wanted him back and it was obvious.

“No problem at all. I’m just curious. Yazz told me about your marriage in Paris, so I just wanted to know why you are back for Gee.”

Diamond was my girl, and I knew how she felt about Gee. The last thing we needed was the real Kasha coming out the blue and professing her long lost love for Gee.

“Wow? He told you that? Did he tell you that we had sex too?” she asked in a sarcastic tone, trying to make me mad, but I was way above her shit.

“He did. He also told me that you suck a mean d—”

  “Okay!”

“Where are you going anyway?” I asked when I saw that she was going the opposite direction.

  “I had to lose Yazz.”

When she said that, my heart began to hop around in my chest. Was I hearing her right?

“Huh?” I asked with drool damn near coming out of my mouth.

“Yazz was following me and I had to lose him. But you knew that,” she said as she reached over and pointed a gun in my face.

  “Whoa, now let’s calm d—”

“Don’t fucking tell me to calm down! Why was Yazz following us? And since when did Gee hang out in the Bronx?”

“He was there with a f—”

She cocked her gun. “Lie, and I swear to God I’ll blow your fucking brains out. Where is my sister?”

“Kasha, I swear to God I don’t know,” I said as convincingly as I could.

I waited for her to shoot, so I closed my eyes really tight. If I told her the truth, I would be dead anyway.

“You don’t know, but I bet Yazz does.”

“And why would you think that?” I asked.

“Because this is the same man that stole from his brother. The same man that black mailed me into having sex with him.”

“So why would he kill your sister?” I asked.

She put the gun down and broke down in tears. “I sent my sister back to take him for everything that he had and to kill him. And now she’s missing. And he lied about knowing anything.”

“What? Why would you do that? Do you know that she was fucking your man while she was here?” I asked as I looked in the rearview. Yazz was gone, and he was going to kill me because I had just unintentionally admitted that her sister was indeed here.

“What? No, I sent her to do one job and one job only. She would never do that. I told her to kill Yazz, because if Yazz was dead, I could finally be with Gee in peace. Not having to worry about him blackmailing me. And I knew my sister could get close enough to him to do it.”

“How you gonna be with Gee and you’re married?” I asked.

“Was married, as in not anymore. It only lasted a couple of years before I realized that I couldn’t live without Gee. But Yazz can’t be alive.”

  “So
why come to his house?”

“Because he told me that Gee would be there. I wanted to come clean to Gee about everything. About Yazz and me sleeping together, and about being married.”

“And what about your sister? The entire time you were married, she was dating your man. If you go to Gee, I swear to God he’s going to think you’re crazy.”

“Do you have proof she was messing with Gee?” she asked. “I don’t believe you. You could be lying.”

  “Yes.”

“Take me to Gee now,” she said quickly.

  “I can’t no more.”

“What? Why not?” she asked, clearly agitated.

“Gee is about to be married and I can’t mess that up.”

  “Married? Are you serious?”

  “As a heart attack.”

She quickly pulled her car over and hopped out. She got to my side and yanked the door open, with the gun still pointed. When she pulled me out, I felt handcuffs being slapped around my wrists.

“What the fuck, Kasha?” I asked when she opened the trunk and took my phone. I didn’t have a lock code, and Gee’s address was still in my phone. This was all bad.

  “Get in,” she said.

“I’m not getting in no mothafu—”

“Get in the fucking truck!” she yelled as she pushed me inside and slammed it down. I kicked and fought, but the car sped off, causing me to hit my head on the spare tire. Then she pulled over again and popped the trunk. Kasha placed some duct tape over my mouth and closed the trunk back.

What the fuck did I get myself into?

  Chapter Fifteen

  Gee

“Hey, I’m at your door. Where are you?” I asked Diamond as I stood at her front door. I had knocked and got no answer, so I called.

“I’m out, Gee,” she said dryly.

“Where’s Rena?” I asked as I walked back toward the elevator.

  “With me.”

“Diamond, do you know what time it is? Where are you? I’m coming to get you so we can talk,” I said as I stepped onto the elevator and pressed the L button for Lobby.

“Oh, now you want to talk? I don’t want to. We can talk when we have our counseling.”
