Traunth (traun-th): a Losian coin, the sum of three dorins. In the Losian monetary system, it ranks just above the dorin.
Troulos (trou-los): an orange fillet fish.
Twenty, the: a group of twenty elite elven warriors formed at the eve of the Dragon Wars. Each member was the most expert of individual magical and combat disciplines.
Ul’thirl (ool-theer): draconic for a seer’s stone.
Ulk’Sha (oolk-shah): a title given to the strongest draconic warrior who underwent the rite of the Ulk’Sha. During the dragon wars, the Ulk’Sha led the armies of the Kaldean Alliance. Throughout the end of the war, other dragons undertook the rite. After the war, only one Ulk’Sha existed until the Karthar Rebellion. The capitalized “Sha” has a greater emphasis, like putting “the” before a title. It also denotes a warrior. The “Sha” is pronounced with a harder “s” sound. Ulk’Shas are paragons of valor and righteousness.
Ulnal (OOL-nahl): a hiss’thrak possessing an illusion created by Iltar, crass and mentally deranged.
Unspoken One: a title denoting a prophesied human who has the power to wield magic without incantation. Throughout the history of Kalda, no one but Cheserith could muster magic without incantation, not even the most powerful of the dragons. The prophecy tells of a lone man who would herald Cheserith’s return, and to him would his power be given, particularly the ability to muster the Ko’delish without incantation.
Usa’zin’sha (OO-SAH-sin-shah): draconic, one who infiltrates or spies.
Usazma’thirl (OO-SAHZ-mah-thee-rl): the draconic name for the city of the Usa’zin’sha.
Vampiric Hound: an ancient canine native to Kalda.
Vurakna (voo-rak-nah): a hiss’thrak possessing an illusion created by Iltar, sadistic in nature.
Vedrin (ved-rin): a young illusionist in training, a student of Iltar’s at the Estate.
Vedwin (ved-win): a crewman on the White Duchess.
Vestrua (VES-tru-AH): a hiss’thrak possessing an illusion created by Iltar. Rage-induced, hateful, and vengeful.
Vik’sha (vick-shah): draconic for “exile.”
White Duchess, the: Captain Kenard’s sea vessel made of a material that cannot rot nor rust. It has six decks, two above the main deck, and three masts.
Wizard: a mage specializing in destructive elemental and arcane magics.
Yargis (yar-jis): a captain in the Sorothian Navy, commander of the Ilssilis.
Zanille Narshon (ZAH-ne-el NAHR-shawn): Keth’s port magistrate.
Zanxsthy’ll (zahn-ax-thill)
Zatryn Phar (ZA-trin FAR): a grand mage and the grandmaster of the Order of the Mages of Alath from 6407 C.D.–6429 C.D. He instructed Adrin in the magical arts. He died shortly after the battle of Angolith, after slaying Mindolarn, the Emperor.
Zu’mal’thisr’nsar (zoo-mahl-thi-nahr): a platinum dragon, an Ulk’Sha and the father of Zulsthy’l.
Zulsthy’l (zool-thill): a platinum dragon who lived during the Karthar Empire, son of Zu’mal’thisr’nsar, and an Ulk’Sha.
Author’s Afterword
Robert Zangari
The Mages’ Agenda is one of the most recent works my father and I have put together; and by recent I mean within this century. In fact, most of the other stories within Tales of the Amulet (then Chronicles of Lorn) were conceived and developed during the early to mid 1990’s.
This book originally started out as one of the major story arcs within my father’s first few drafts of The Dark Necromancer. And to be frank, it was only three chapters, at least outlined as such (my father tends to compress a great deal of information within chapters that end up being expanded once everything is being written in third, fourth and eventually final drafts.)
However as The Dragons’ Legacy and The Elven Secret were written, certain plot twists were introduced that warranted an expansion of the three major acts of this story, one such event was (spoiler alert, proceed to the next paragraph if you haven’t read either of the books!) the murder of Baron Cilgan and the subsequent events that were spurred on by his demise at our villains hands. That event, although taking place in another book, is one of the central driving themes of this story.
When The Dragons’ Legacy was completed the story had dramatically increased in depth; a wide cast of characters had been introduced as well as various events that had been set in motion by Iltar and Cornar. We found it prudent to further the plots associated with the characters and the events that had been triggered beyond what had transpired in The Elven Secret.
The Mages’ Agenda is a story that is partially built around family (for those of you who have read The Elven Secret you know Iltar has a half brother from his initial conversation with Nehon), and in this portion of Iltar’s quest for re-forging the Au’misha’k you as the reader will learn about his past and get a glimpse about how he has come to be who and what he is at the time of this story.
We also transition from an evil vs. evil conflict to one of evil vs. good. So in this story you will be introduced to some of the original heroes created by my father in his 1990’s work, Chronicles of Lorn (as well as some newer protagonists), ones that will play a recurring role throughout the rest of this series. For those of you who have read the first edition of The Dragons’ Legacy a.k.a. The Dark Necromancer, you know who I’m talking about.
When we were going through the third draft of this story we came to several parts that required a more in depth look at the past forty to one hundred years of events that transpired on Kalda. The other books had back-story that went hundreds if not thousands of years in the past, but The Mages’ Agenda refers to events that had transpired within Iltar’s life time. The first two books dealt with adventures in a far off land ages ago, but The Mages’ Agenda has more of a civil or domestic atmosphere about it, and certain events that tie into the story will be mentioned in a historical venue, giving a more in depth education about the more recent events that have shaped the world of Kalda.
Overall, The Mages’ Agenda has been a wonderful story to work with and has brought tears to my eyes as I have written portions of it. It is an adventure and a tragedy that has tidbits of lore which will spur your imagination about this fictional universe created by my father. I hope you will enjoy it.
