Lilah’s eyes flew wide open when she felt him start unbuttoning her denim shorts, then sliding it down. His other hand slid under her loose shirt, getting busy.

“What are – we – doing – Finn?”

The hand busy on her breast guided her fingers down, until she found herself holding something hot and hard and pulsing. Already beyond aroused, she held his cock firmly and played him with her own fingers, loving the way he softly bit her shoulder and groaned out her name.

“I need to be inside you.”

And with that, what started out playful became quick and almost desperate. Her shorts and panties were quickly slid down her legs, his fingers sliding inside her until she was wet – wetter – for him. Then he was hoisting her up, even while she insistently tugged on his shirt in between kisses, bringing it up over his head and putting her hands all over him.

He entered her without pause, leaving her biting her lip at the sensation of being so full. Then they were readjusting their bodies, him wrapping her legs around his waist as he withdrew, then surged forward powerfully and making her moan.

He covered her mouth with his to muffle her sounds. Then he pumped, hard and purposeful and wickedly wonderful.

They changed position in between, as he turned her around and bent her over the cramped drawer. Guiding his cock back in from behind, he paused for a moment as he unhooked her bra and filled his hands with her breasts, kneading and cupping and playing with her nipples. Then those hands slid down to her stomach as he bent down and covered her back with his front.

This time, he kept the rhythm slow, hands going from time to time to roll over her stiffened nipples. He turned her head to the side, capturing her mouth in a frenzied kiss as she wriggled her butt and demanded more.

With a groan of assent, he thrust faster. Her body bounced, the desire in her stomach wounding tighter and tighter as she met him thrust for thrust, as she was taken to the peak of his lust, as the ball of desire wound even tighter—

Her orgasm came hard, a burst of pleasure that had her biting her lip to keep her voice together. A few more thrusts, and then she felt him convulse and explode inside her as his grip tightened on her hips, his heavy groan filling the air. He slumped against her, wonderfully spent.

  Lilah closed her eyes, content.

After a few seconds, Finn murmured in her ear. "I'm leaving for Paris."

Lilah stilled. A few seconds passed as she tried to process his words. She opened her mouth to say something, but he kept on.

"To close shop there. And relocate here."

Her heart soared, but she didn't dare hope too much. Hesitantly, she spoke. "Finn?"

Slowly, Finn turned her around, expression carefully hooded.

"I was hoping you can come with me. A month, tops. Then we can come back here and...start over."

Lilah knew him, she really did – and the only reason he had on that careful expression was because he was half-expecting her to say no.

Slowly, she tiptoed, whispering one sentence before pulling him down for a kiss.

Like she'd refuse the man who'd accidentally stolen her heart.

"It would be my pleasure, Finn."

Fortunately their delicious attraction and intense chemistry puts doubt to bed -- where they do everything but sleep. And Jake and Faye marry anyway.

  Unbridled Passion

  Chapter One

It was easier than she thought. Faye Furlong, or the Widow Furlong as she had come to be known since her husband left her, placed an ad in the Matrimonial News and the letters started pouring in. Beautiful letters. Letters that promised her fidelity and sometimes even the moon.

The letters were a bright spot in her otherwise dreary life. Wearing widows weeds for the past eight months to cover up for the fact that Lorkan Furlong took off with a nice chunk of change without a word.

It wasn’t like Faye didn’t know it was coming. Lorkan Furlong had more interest in the Faye’s brother than he did in Faye. It was a loveless marriage to say the least. It was a bitter heartbreak for Faye, not because she had been in love with Lorkan, but because she had been so duped by him.

She was pretty sure her brother and her husband cooked this whole thing up long ago. It was a mercy that the family lawyer saw it for what it was and took pity on Faye. With his help and for a fee, he created a rumor that Lorkan had been killed out west, prospecting. Lorkan and her brother were declared dead, Faye inherited everything. Under the advice of her lawyer, she kept the house in trust for her brother if he were to appear and contest the division of the estate.

“All we have to do is go before a judge and suggest your husband and your brother were, ah, together, and he’ll get nothing,” said the lawyer.

So that was how at twenty eight, Faye became a widow; an old widow.

While she was supposedly free, the sting of what had happened to Faye pained her daily at some point. It wasn’t like she was looking for it. It just happened. So the letters became such a salve on her battered spirit. That darn thing was, she could not shake that they felt like they were written by a woman.

The moment of truth was upon her. Faye had accepted a proposal from a Jake McElroy of just outside of Dodge. The words he used to describe himself painted a very handsome picture. Though he didn’t come right out and say he was a gorgeous man, Faye daydreamed about him immediately.

He had three other brothers and all of them were married. He was the hold-out bachelor, as he called himself. There weren’t a lot choices in Dodge and he wanted to settle down before he got too long in the tooth. Faye was warmed that she and he were in the same boat. They were both pushing thirty, childless and unmarried.

She wrapped up her affairs in Hays, rented the house to her lawyer to watch over everything until further notice, and shipped herself off to Dodge City. She had some back and forth with Jake about paying for her passage. But she couldn’t wait and Faye had the sinking feeling he was having a hard time coming up with the money. The lovely thing about having a small family fortune, Faye was able to marry for affection and not out of desperation. It didn’t matter if Jake was poor. She had enough money for the both of them.

Faye posted one last letter and set out for Dodge where she booked a room in the Dodge House. She could not stop her heart from racing. She felt like a school girl complete with the sweaty palms and skipping heart, anticipating her first meeting with Jake McElroy. The clerk at the hotel desk said he would notify her as soon as Jake was located.

Faye awaited word in her hotel room, smoothing her hair and her dress so that she looked just so when her intended arrived. Finally came a knock on the much-awaited knock on the door.

“Miss Furlong,” the clerk called. “I have Mr. McElroy in the lobby.”

Faye was a little put off by the fact that she had to come to him rather than he to her but maybe that was the way they did things in Dodge. She took a deep breath and walked the hall to the head of the stairs. She gazed down to the lobby. She picked him out immediately.

He was a tall man with an incredibly strong physique. He wore a shirt with a vest over it and jeans. He had his hat in his hand. The clerk tapped Jake on the shoulder and he looked up at her. His face went wide with surprise and it made her a little self-conscious. Was he disappointed? Was she too old after all?

Faye had been completely honest about her circumstances. Hard as it was to admit she was twenty eight years old, she figured it would be harder for her to face his rea
ction if she had not been. Once she was in the lobby and facing him, there was something strange she could not pinpoint in his demeanor.

He was neither happy nor unhappy to see her. It was strange to her.

“Miss Furlong,” he said with a slight nod.

“Mr. McElroy. It’s nice to meet you,” she said sweetly.

“Likewise,” he said. “What can I do for you ma’am?”

Faye tilted her head with confusion.

“Well I’ve come to Dodge to be married,” she said.

“Who’s the lucky fella?” asked Jake politely.

Faye thought she would drop in a faint before him.

“Why you, Mr. McElroy,” she gasped.

  Chapter Two

Tears moistened the corners of Faye’s eyes. She tried hard not to fall apart right there in the middle of Dodge House.

“To me?” he asked and looked to the hotel clerk.

Faye wavered. She felt her knees buckling. His big strong arms braced her.

“Here now,” he said gently. “Why don’t we take a seat over here and sort this out.”

“I don’t want to sort this out,” she whispered, thoroughly humiliated. “Your letters --”

“I wrote you letters?” he asked.

He wasn’t trying to be loud, but Faye felt as though he was broadcasting their personal business to the entire town.

“Will you please lower your voice,” she pleaded.

“Is this better?” he asked, his tone becoming sweet as honey.

It was indeed better. If things had gone differently, she might given into the urge to cuddle with him.

“Now,” he said. “You said I wrote you letters?”

“You did,” she replied, clenching her eyes. “I have them upstairs with my things.”

“Well okay now,” he said positively. “How about I take a look at them and go from there?”

“No,” she said. “If you don’t know anything about this, what is the point?”

“I would very much appreciate it if I could see them,” he said softly.

But the thought of climbing the spiral stairs up to her room to fetch the letters bundled together with a blue satin ribbon was overwhelming. She wanted to crawl into a whole and hide.

“They are in my satchel,” she said.

She sat up straight. She pulled herself together and rose with as much grace as she could summon. As she walked she wiped her eyes and slowly, she put one foot in front of the other towards her room. Jake was up and behind her, supporting her.

He waited at the door of her room as she fetched the letters that she believed had been from him. She found them, handed them to him and slumped in a chair.

“Take them. I probably want them back. Even if they weren’t from you, they’re a huge part of me. I can’t explain why I want them back when you are through with them, but I do.”

“You don’t want to read them with me?” he asked.

  “Mr. McElroy,” she began.

  “Jake,” he corrected gently.

“Mr. McElroy,” she said anyway. “I know them by heart. You have a day to read them. I will be heading back to Hays to my house as soon as I can book passage back.”

“Now hold on a minute,” he said apologetically.

  But she stopped him.

“Do not feel sorry for me,” she warned him. “This was a mistake or a cruel, cruel joke. It would not be the first time someone has played me for a fool. If you don’t mind, I would like to lie down.”

  Chapter Three

Faye was completely worn out. She said good day to Jake McElroy and laid down on her bed to rest. She sank immediately into a deep nap. She dreamt she was looking down on her hotel room, watching herself.

Jake knocked on the door. She rose from the bed, in a trance, with the look of adoration on her face as she greeted him. He bore the same expression as looked lovingly into her eyes.

She had such an intense hunger for him. It was an all-consuming need. She was completely fixed on him. He silently took her face in his hands, focusing on her lips, he brushed his lips against hers, devouring her.

Stars burst in her mind as she experienced passion for the first time. His tongue penetrated her, snaking through her mouth, tasting her. Faye went limp against him, overwhelmed with arousal.

Her nipples were hard and pointed, pressing against the cups of her corset. In her dream, his fingers found the pins in her hair and pulled each one under her silken locks were liberated. Faye had taken to wear her hair in a somewhat of a matronly style. She noted that as the years in her marriage continued and she went untouched, she took on the habits of an old woman.

She did not feel that way in the least. At least not as she was being kissed so thoroughly by Jake McElroy, even though it was just the sweetest dream. He made her feel so alive, so young and sweet and so much the woman.

She had been primed for her wedding night about what transpired between a man and a woman. There were nights when she lay in her bed aching for her husband to join her. In the arms of Jake McElroy, Faye knew that this was what she was longing for.

Her breath rose so fiercely she could hardly breathe. Instinct made her want to lay back and take her clothes off for him. To be naked. To offer herself up. But a sudden crack of thunder distracted them.

  Faye awoke.

  Chapter Four

For the second time that day someone knocked on Faye’s hotel room door. She stirred from her delicious slumber with the turn of events temporarily slipped her mind. It was Jake McElroy with her letters in his hand. He had a small crowd of people with him.

“You should warn a lady if you’re going to come to call,” Faye said feebly.

In fact she was awfully glad to see him and he had no idea. He had no idea that she and he had just spent the very best part of the day together.

“I apologize Miss Furlong. But this is urgent. Will you kindly join me in the lobby once again?” he asked.

“I think I have some answers as to how you received letters from me,” he said softly.

“I appreciate your coming all this way to continue our discussion,” Faye replied as the humiliation was revived.

Without thinking, she began to close the door on them.

“No please,” he said. “You’ll want to hear this.”

“I don’t,” she said. “If you could just return my letters.”

“You’ve come all this way,” he said. “Won’t you please down?”

Suddenly Faye found herself charmed by Jake McElroy. He literally made a pouty face and batted his lashes and it made her insides flutter. She wanted more. She was so low, so vulnerable and she had no more dignity to lose by listening to what he had to say. She nodded slightly to the cluster of women and men who accompanied him as she followed Jake downstairs.

Once they were seated in the lobby, he spoke very softly, almost in a whisper.

“I would have rather taken care of this business in the privacy of home but I figured calling on you to ride out to McElroy’s Bend was a might too much to ask,” he began.

Faye could not help but study him. He had a flawless complexion. His peerless skin coursed over symmetry cheek bones and handsome square jaw. When he spoke, his dimples appeared. He had lovely even white teeth. And just about the bluest eyes she could ever hope to see.

“Miss Faye Furlong, I would like you to meet my well-meaning sisters in law. We have Merla, Gretchen and Maybelle McElroy. These fine women are married to my brothers. As their letters correctly stated, I am the last of the McElroy brothers to marry.”

  “Their letters?” noted Faye.

She knew it. The letters did bear a woman’s touch.

“Yes ma’am, their letters,” he said.

It could not be more humiliating that on top of having to listen to the facts of how she was made a fool of, that she could not control the tears. It sickened her that she might cry in front of these people.

Jake softly covered her hand with his. It was r
ough and tough from work but warm. His touch grounded her insides.

“What I come to say, Miss Furlong, is that while I don’t abide by the trickery my sisters perpetrated, I think what they had was a pretty darn good idea,” he said softly.

Faye’s eyebrow arched. She was listening.

“I know we have not had to many words together but if you’re a mind, if you are willing to say here and let me court you proper,” he said, going down on one knee.

Faye pressed her hand against her chest as the room teetered. The surprises kept on coming and she was going into overload.

“I am asking for your hand in marriage,” he said. “I’ll marry you right now if you let me. But I’d be honored if you let me do the courtin’, if you let me do the letter writin’.”

Faye drew in a deep breath and collected herself.

“Yes Mr. McElroy,” she replied. “I will let you court me.”

Without any warning, Jake scooped Faye up and twirled her around. It was a fun move. A delicious move. But it was also a sneaky move. It allowed him to separate the two of them from the crowd and gain some privacy.

“Well that’s fine,” he whispered with a wink.

His lips were so close to hers. He did not kiss her but he brushed them against hers sending shivers throughout her body.

“And I truly appreciate your consent. But ma’am, my family here, that there is my brother Mac, my brother Rafe, my brother Donovan, and those here are their wives the ones who wrote the letters, we’re all in town at the moment. My ma is fetching the Marshall. Any chance you let me marry you now and court you afterwards?”

If Jake McElroy were less handsome and less charming the answer might have been no. But Faye did consider she had traveled to Dodge to marry him. In some ways what she knew about him now was better than what she thought she knew about him before. She took another deep breath.

“Court me huh?” she teased. “After we’re married, huh?”
