“Well, that’s certainly not the Hollywood ending I wanted,” she said, taking a sip of her coffee.
“Are you sorry you left it all behind?” Angus asked as he rubbed her shoulders.
“Not in the least. I’d much rather spent the rest of my life with you on our ranch.” She smiled.
There was a knock on the door and Angus opened it to Agent Williams, who joined them in the kitchen. “I’m glad I caught you before you left. I wanted to let you know about the thug who tried to kill you at that motel.”
“I believe you already told us he was apprehended,” Angus said.
“I know, but I thought you might want to know that it was Malcolm Mohar, Caleb’s brother—you know, the snake shifter. Anyway, Salem wasn’t aware that Malcolm was also tracking you, and he wanted to be the one to bring you in.”
“I’m not going to miss this town,” Angelina said. “Too many bad memories.”
“It’s a shame you decided to turn your back on acting. Like I told you, my daughter is a huge fan,” Williams said.
“I still feel bad that Willis was dragged into the murder plot. I contacted every funeral home in town, but I could never find out where his funeral was held,” Angelina said.
“That could be because he survived. He decided to leave California and stay with his sister in Boston.”
“How badly was he injured?” Angus asked.
“It was only a shoulder wound thanks to the St. Christopher medallion he wore.”
Angelina pressed a hand to her chest. “Oh, I’m glad to hear that. He’s been my father’s assistant for some time and I’m afraid he’s done his dirty work without ever knowing it. I’ve been trying to contact Julia, but I’ve been unable to reach her.”
“She’s taken her mother back to Tucson where they’re from. The air is better for her lung problems, she told me.”
“Well, I suppose there’s no reason for me to stay in California now.” Angelina hurried into her bedroom and returned with a photo of her posing near a waterfall in Hawaii while she was shooting a romantic comedy there. She quickly signed it and handed it to Agent Williams. “For your daughter.”
“I can’t accept this. It’s against FBI policy.”
“Then don’t tell them,” Angelina said. “It’s the least I can do for all you’ve done.”
“I was only doing my job, but I’ll be sure to give this to my daughter. We’ll have to keep this between us.”
“Sounds good to me,” Angelina said, showing Williams to the door.
Angus strutted over to her. “I promise you’ll never have anything to fear ever again. That is if you don’t mind living with a llama shifter.”
She put her arms around his neck and pulled him down for a kiss full of love and promise. She thought her dream was a life in Hollywood as an actress, but Angus showed her how wrong she was. He truly loved her for who she was as a woman and not an actress, and she loved him madly even though he was a llama shifter.
Love happens when you least expect it, even when you’re on the run!
