Lena’s mouth falls wide open in surprise as well as Tura’s. Gerry sits back in his chair smiling from ear to ear happy to be a witness to the touching occasion. Tamisha takes her time before answering. “Will we have a big party like Aunt Lovey and Aunt Robin and Aunt Lesa?” “Yes, we will” Fahim answers trying not to laugh at Tamisha serious tone of voice. “Yes, we will” he answers again. “Okay, you have my per, per, permission. That’s a hard word to say.” “You did very well cariño. Now I have to see if your Momma wants to marry me.” “Sure she does” Tamisha states quickly. “She wouldn’t kiss you like that if she didn’t want to marry you” causing everyone to laugh. Tamisha goes one step further putting Lena on the spot by asking “Momma you love Uncle Fahim, I mean Daddy Fahim don’t you?” Lena smiles broadly and answers “Yes I love Fahim very much.” “So you’re going to marry him and make us a family right? You know we will have a Daddy, a Momma and me right?” All eyes lock on Lena waiting for her response. She clears her throat and says “If Fahim asks me to be his wife and you his daughter I will give him his answer when he asks.”
Tura and Gerry snicker at the back and forth while waiting anxiously for Fahim to respond. “Tamisha” Fahim says “Why don’t we eat first. Once I’ve asked your Momma privately, which mean her and me alone together, and then we will plan the biggest party ever to celebrate. Yay!!! We’re going to have a party!! Uncle Fahim is going to be my daddy” Tamisha sings repeatedly. Fahim gets to his feet and pulls Lena into his arms and whispers in her ear “I like the way you responded to her question. You won’t be given the same option when we have this conversation again” he warns playfully. “Like I said Fahim you will get your answer when you ask me” Lena states matter of fact.
“Now, who’s ready to eat? Once we’re done, we can enjoy each other’s company. The two of you still haven’t explained how you became so chummy.” “It will all be explained later” Fahim answers. “Are you taking Tami back to Robin’s tomorrow so we can go out on our first official date?” “If she will go. You see how excited she is about the trees and decorations. She’s so happy.” “I know mi amor. I’ll see if I can persuade her to go back for one more night and then we will get her early Sunday morning and go have breakfast and make the day all hers.” “All right sounds like a good plan. Now let’s eat” Lena says smiling. “Okay, mi amor” Fahim agrees with a smile on his face.
Tura and Gerry watch the way Fahim and Lena connect with each other seeing the love they share which only reminds them of their own young love. Gerry kisses the inside of Tura’s hand and leans in to whisper in her ear “I love you sunshine and I can’t wait to get you home to show you how much I’ve missed you today.” “Ooooh, no fair!” she moans as he sucks on her earlobe. Heat spreads through her, and she feels wetness inside her underwear. She places her hand between his legs rubbing it against his crotch causing him to moan as well.
Tamisha interrupts their bold foreplay and asks “Are ya’ll okay? Sounds like someone is hurting over there.” Fahim and Lena have sat back down at the table after placing the platter of sandwiches and fries on it. They look over at the flustered couple, and Fahim laughs while Lena presses her lips together trying to hold her laughter inside. “We’re okay Tami,” Gerry says after clearing his throat. “Are you sure? It sounds like somebody is hurting really bad” Tamisha says before taking a bite of her sandwich. With a mouth full of food she mumbles “Momma has some band aids in the cabinet if you have a boo-boo or medicine if you have a tummy ache.”
Fahim is doubled over laughing, and Lena can no longer hold in her amusement. She howls loudly with laughter causing Tamisha to follow her lead laughing as well. Tura and Gerry are also chuckling at their own expense and the innocence of a five-year-old. Tura finally gets control of her laughter and says “Out of the mouth of babes,” and everyone laughs again. Lena adds “You never know what they will say next.” A few minutes later everyone has gotten control of themselves and enjoys their meal and talk about their busy day.
Much later, Lena shuts and locks the doors after watching Gerry and Tura pull out of her driveway leaving for home. She returns to the den to find the two people she loves the most asleep on the sofa. Smiling, she thinks back on the past few days and how her life had changed so drastically praying silently for it to continue getting better and no more drama. She watches her daughter lying on Fahim’s chest and thinks back on Tamisha announcement of her holiday wish wanting Fahim to be her father. Lena never knew she felt this way and is happy she loves Fahim and wants him to be a part of their lives.
Lena wonders when Fahim will ask her to marry him. She could have said yes earlier, but she wants it to be an intimate moment just between the two of them, to be selfish this one time. Since the two people she loves the most are sleeping, she might as well get some gift wrapping done and leaves out of the room to head upstairs to her bedroom. Hopefully, she will get several gifts wrapped before Fahim awakens and they shares some quiet time together.
CHAPTER 33
Tura parks her car in Gerry’s garage as he pulls in next to her. She looks out her passenger window with a smile on her lips seeing him smiling back at her. How she got so lucky she’d never know but she has, and she’s not letting this feeling of love for Gerry go unfulfilled. Hearing Tamisha expressing how she wants Fahim to be a part of their family and for them to get married has thoughts of her becoming Gerry’s wife popping into her mind. Tura would love to be his wife as soon as humanly possible. She knows he loves her and wants to spend the rest of his days and nights with her, but does he want to make it official and have her as his wife. Tura decides the only way to know the answer is to bring up the subject hoping he asks her those four special words all women want to hear from the men they love.
Gerry steps from his vehicle and grabs the shopping bags from his earlier shopping excursion, off the back seat making sure the jewelry packages are inside the True Religion bag he stuffed them. Turning to see his girl watching him so attentively reminds him of what they witnessed earlier in the evening at Lena’s. Fahim’s hinting at wanting Lena to be his wife, he watched Tura’s emotional reaction and knew he’d done the right thing getting the ring and setting up a reservation for a quiet romantic dinner at Bria’s Italian Bistro in Nashville Saturday evening. He planned to propose to Tura there and hopes she agrees to be his wife. He can’t and won’t live without Tura, and it was time to take their commitment one step further and make it official.
They meet at the door and enter into his home from the garage with their arms loaded down with bags. Gerry quickly unlocks the door letting them inside, and they each disappear to put them away until they find time to wrap them. A few minutes later, Tura finds Gerry stretched on the sectional in his den snoring lightly. She smiles realizing he had a long day starting with their passionate loving making and working at his job. Tura is also worn out even after the small catnap she sneaked in earlier on the ride home with Lena and Tamisha. She lies beside Gerry snuggling close to feel the warmth of his body. Gerry blinks his eyes open and yawns.
“Man I fell asleep that quickly. Sorry sunshine.” “Oh, you’re good. I know you’ve had a long day.” “It was a long but also a day of revelations.” “How so? Did something happen at work?” Gerry smile widens across is lips, and he proceeds to tell Tura about his early promotion, the disclosure of what Patrick’s sister had been doing and the successful meeting with their new clients. “So sunshine,” he says after divulging his day of events, “at the beginning of the year I’m officially managing Patrick’s company. I will be interim COO until he returns to run it himself again.” “Oooh, honey that is wonderful news. I’m so proud of you, and I’m sorry your boss has to deal with his sister’s betrayal. I’m happy you will be doing what you’ve worked so hard to achieve.” “Thank you, sunshine. It means the world to me to have you on my side.”
Gerry kisses Tura passionately, and she returns the potent lip lock just as intensely. The lovers toes curl in their socks and sto
ckings; it's so powerful. After a few minutes of earnest tongue swapping, they pull apart and look at each other lovingly. “Tura I can’t say this to you any clearer. You and I are meant to be together. Woman, I love you so much it hurts to think of you not being in my life.” “Aw honey, I feel the same exact way” Tura admits. “Seeing Fahim kind of proposing to Lena had me wishing it was you asking me. I want us to be committed to each other legally so no one can discredit our love and how quickly it unfolded.” Gerry heart leaps with joy hearing Tura say what’s he’s felt all along. “My love, I was going to wait until our date tomorrow night to do something but give me a couple of minutes, and I’ll be right back” and unwraps himself from their snug embrace. He rushes upstairs to get the ring he’d purchased earlier.
Tura wonders what’s gotten into Gerry and as she’s about to leave her comfortable position on the sofa and follow him to see what’s wrong, he rushes back into the room out of breath. Placing a finger in the air until he can talk, Tura waits her curiosity piqued wanting to hurry and find out what has the man she loves acting more bizarre than usual. She watches as his facial expression becomes solemn which alarms her and she sits straight up and waits to see what he is going to do.
His breathing under control and his thoughts unencumbered, Gerry stands directly in front of Tura, gets down on one knee, clears his throat and looks straight into her brown eyes. Seeing the speculation of uncertainty on her face, he smiles and says “Who knew a few days ago you would come into my life and steal my heart Tura. Your beauty almost gave me a heart attack; I was so awestruck. When you and I first made love, I was ready to infuse my life with yours. Getting you know you have only affirmed my initial hunch you and I are meant to be together. As I told you before, I’m not very good with words, but I do know I want to share the rest of my life with you now. As I constantly look into your eyes, I see the picture of the two of us and the life we will be sharing together. My life has changed for the better when you walked into it. I also know I will never be complete without you by my side. I love you Tura Anila Figest. I want the two of us to put our hearts in each other's hands for eternity. Will you do me the honor of wearing my ring and becoming my wife?”
Tears roll down her face she’s so elated hearing the man she loves confirm they are of one mind regarding their love and living together forever as husband and wife. Her plan to casually ask Gerry how he feels about marriage and being her husband is now a mute conversation. Their thoughts are on the same page, and she couldn’t be happier. Clearing her throat and widening her smile as she continues to stare into his hypnotic eyes and simply says “Yes I will marry you and be your wife sealing our love for each other forever.” Gerry lets out the breath he was holding and opens his other hand which held the jewelry box inside it. With his eyes still on Tura, he lifts the lid revealing a four-karat diamond and garnet halo ring in gold with diamond and garnet round half karat baguettes encased around the band and waited for her reaction.
Tura is speechless seeing the exquisite piece of jewelry. As it sparkles back at her, she can’t believe he thought enough to include her birthstone in the unique design. “Gerry it’s beautiful” she cries. He slides it on her finger, and it fits perfectly. Raising her hand in the air to get a better view, Tura asks “How did you know it would fit?” He smiles sneakily asking “Weren’t you missing a ring this morning? I took the one you wear on your ring finger to use in case the engagement ring had to be sized. The ring sizes matched perfectly and I was able to walk out of the store with it today.” “You did all this today?” she says excitedly wrapping her arms around his neck. “I was in such a hurry this morning I didn’t have time to put all of my rings and didn’t know it was missing. Honey, it’s so beautiful, and you even thought to include my birthstone in the design. It’s so beautiful” she repeats as she waves her hand in the air again behind his head.
On both knees now, Gerry scoots closer to Tura until he’s between her open thighs and wraps his arms around her waist. Tura eyes are glued to his, and she happily says “I love you so much Gerry, and I can’t wait for us to stand before our friends and family if they want to participate and profess our love to each other.” “Sunshine you made this day end so perfectly. But now it's time to add to its perfection as I show you exactly how I feel about you, my love.” “I’m all yours Gerry, all yours” Tura purrs. They embrace and frantically strip off each other’s clothing to begin their passionate journey of making love as an engaged couple.
CHAPTER 34
It’s 11 pm, and Fahim wakes up to find his little angel sound asleep on his chest. He blinks his eyes to wake up fully and looks around the room for Lena. Not seeing her, he eases himself off the sofa trying not to wake Tamisha. Once he is standing upright, he adjusts her in his arms and walks out of the den turning out the lights before heading upstairs.
Before searching for Lena, he goes to Tamisha’s room and gets her settled comfortably in her bed. She had her bath earlier and was already in her pajamas. Making sure her night light is on, he turns off the ceiling lights and leaves the door cracked just in case she wakes up during the night.
Fahim heads down the hall to Lena’s bedroom noticing the light on. Stepping inside, he finds her busy wrapping presents while listening to music through the headphones in her ears. Not wanting to frighten her, he stands close to her dresser, so she will see his reflection in the mirror.
Lena knows Fahim is there before she sees him and turns to face him smiling. Taking the headset out of her ears, she asks “So you decided to wake up finally?” “Yes and I’m sorry I fell asleep. I guess I was more tired than I thought. I haven’t slept much lately” he admits. “Well I knew you were tired so I left you and Tamisha, who looked very comfortable in the spot she chose to lay her head, alone and as you can see I had plenty to keep me occupied. I’m almost done wrapping everything. Tami’s bigger gifts I will open and set up a few hours after she falls asleep on Christmas Eve.” “You mean we will set up everything. I plan on being here, Lena. I’m part of the family now remember?” Fahim says with an eyebrow raised.
Lena ignores his playful sarcastic comment replying “Yes I remember Fahim” with a smile still plastered across her lips. “Can you believe my daughter kept her secret about wanting you to be her dad? I’m so happy and relieved she loves you and wants you in our lives.” “She’s her mother’s daughter” Fahim mumbles “good at hiding what she’s feeling inside. But I’m going to work on getting both of you to start expressing your thoughts more instead of holding them inward. How else am I supposed to know what you both have on your minds?” Lena snickers “I don’t think you will have a problem with Tamisha. She’s was very vocal today on what she wants. Once she was given that little push, the floodgates opened up, and I’m glad they did. She never talked much about what we experienced with Wayne when he was around. I thought she was too young to understand all the things he did and said. I found out today I was wrong.”
Fahim pulls Lena off the bed and onto her feet wrapping his arms around her tightly. “Tamisha is my daughter now, and I will make her forget all the bad thoughts replacing them with happy ones. I’m glad she wants me to be her dad. You think that fool will sign over his rights so I can adopt her?” With her face lying against his chests Lena smirks “Wayne signed away his rights when Tami was a year old after I filed a petition for child support. So nothing is standing in the way of you adopting her. We can get with a lawyer to see what steps we need to take to get the process started.” She looks up at him adding “Let me rephrase that. I mean we will after you ask me those four small words” Lena states confidently.
“Oh really!” Fahim counters. “So you want to hear me say “how do I love thee’? Naw it can’t be that. It has five words. Maybe it’s ‘Lena I love you,’ or it could be ‘do you . . .” Lena punches him playfully in his chest laughing. “Fahim, you know what I want to hear. What were you going to ask me before we had dinner?” “I don’t remember” he answers after letting go of Lena
and taking a few steps back in case she hits him again. “Really Fahim,” she says loudly with her hands on her hips getting irritated.
“Well, two can play your little game. What time are you coming back tomorrow, hmmm?” Fahim eyebrow rises again and asks “Tomorrow? I’ll be here when you wake up in the morning in my arms.” “Did you ask me if you can stay over?” “Aww c’mon Lena. That’s just downright mean.” “Well so is your acting like you don’t know what we were discussing earlier?” “Aww bebé, you know I love you, and I was just kidding around.” “Humph!” Lena smirks. “Talking about spending the rest of our lives dedicated only to each other, loving only each other isn’t a joking matter Fahim. It’s taken me a long time to find you and let go of my negative views about relationships. I’ve always wanted the fairytale – to be loved and cherished by the man who holds my heart, to be his wife, his partner and the mother of our children until we take our last breath. I want that so badly, and you want to make a joke out of it. I don’t consider you asking for my hand in marriage a joke!” Lena states passionately. She walks away from Fahim so he won’t see how hurt she is by his hurtful wisecrack.
“Damn” Fahim mumbles under his breath. He breathes in deeply to get his thoughts together and walks over to where Lena is now standing and looking out the window at the fresh snow falling from the sky. He notices her wipe at her face and mumbles “Damn I’m an idiot.” Grabbing hold of her shoulders, he feels her tense up at his touch, and he says in her ear “I’m sorry bebé. I would never intentionally hurt you. I take my asking you to be my wife very seriously. I love you, woman, more than my own life. I wanted my proposal of marriage to be very special with the two of us out having an intimate romantic dinner with sweet love ballads playing in the background. You’re showing me your beautiful smile from across the table, and I take your hand kissing the tender spot on the inside, and I ask you to dance with me. You laugh throwing your head back and wink at me before accepting my invitation, and soon we’re dancing to “All of Me.”
