If a player chooses to wear a combination of armor to mix and match sets, the armor rating of each piece is added together and rounded down to the nearest whole number (5.9 becomes 5).
Well-crafted armor does not add to the character’s armor rating but to the damage absorption.
Base armor protection is determined by the percentage the particular piece of armor covers. Percentages are as follows: Armor Location Percentage of Armor Rating and Damage Absorption Head 5%
Throat and chin 2%
Shoulders 10%
Chest 30%
Abdomen 5%
Right arm 10%
Right hand 2%
Left arm 10%
Left hand 2%
Right leg 10%
Right foot 2%
Left leg 10%
Left foot 2%
Example: Zoaz has come across several pieces of armor to make his own unique style. For example purposes, assume the craftsman exceed his roll to allow for max bonus for each piece.

Cloth, leather, hard leather, and studded leather are created by using patterns which can
be learned or purchased and can be altered depending on the size of the customer. Chain
mail, plate armor, and knight’s plate are made out of steel (a combination of iron and carbon).
The process of making chain mail involves heating steel and rolling it to about a quarter-inch
gauge. While the steel is warm enough to manipulate, the craftsman will cut a piece of steel
about an inch long and interlock it with another piece of chain. Plate armor can use molds (which the character can purchase) or the steel can be beaten into sheets approximately onefourth-inch thick to one-third-inch thick and then manipulated into the desired form. Armor weight is determined by multiplying the desired armor rating by 6 for medium-sized characters.
Materials listed for the armor are combined to make one pound of armor for mediumsized characters. (This is to account for material waste during the crafting process). Material needs for other sizes are as follows: Tiny--materials needed for medium-sized characters divided by 4; Small-materials needed for medium-sized characters divided by 2; Large-materials needed for medium-sized characters multiplied by 2; Huge-materials needed for medium sized characters multiplied by 4.
Average time for crafting armor is eight hours per armor rating.
Cloth Armor: 1 pound of quilted wool and 1 spool of heavy thread per 10 pounds of weight. Note, crafted cloth armor cannot exceed an armor rating of 2. To dye cloth armor, refer to equipment for dye costs per pound of material.
Leather Armor: 1 pound of tanned leather and 1 spool of heavy thread per 10 pounds of weight.
Hardened Leather Armor: 1 pound of hardened leather (made by boiling armor in hardening fat) plus 1 spool of heavy thread per 10 pounds of weight.
Studded Leather Armor: Modified hardened leather armor by bolting iron plates even spaced on the armor (banded). 1 pound of hardened leather, 1 spool of heavy thread per 10 pounds of weight, and 1 pound of refined iron.
Chain Mail: Two pounds of steel. (crafting note, steel is made by combining 1 pound of refined iron and 2 pounds of coal).
Plate Armor: Two pounds of steel, 1 pound of tanned leather, 1 pound of refined iron for buckles.
Knights Armor: Three pounds of steel, 1 pound of tanned leather, 1 pound of refined iron for buckles.
SHIELDS
In combat, the shield adds its armor bonus to the character’s armor rating. The shield
cannot reduce the amount of damage the character receives.

Shields are crafted in the same manner as armor. Each armor rating bonus is 6 pounds of weight. Crafting note: Total amount of material needed is material listed below multiplied by weight (6lbs per desired armor bonus)
Small Shield: A small shield is made of wood planks, bolted toget by an iron frame. They can be made in different shapes, however all are approximately 1 foot in diameter. (Hardwood per foot + 1 pound of refined iron + 1 pound of tanned leather)
Medium Shield: A medium shield is made like a small, however the size is approximately 2 foot in diameter. (Hardwood per foot + 1 pound of refined iron + 1 pound of tanned leather)
Large Shield: A large shield is made from steel. While it can be made in different shapes, it is approximately 3 feet in diameter. (1 pound of steel + 1 pound of tanned leather + 1 pound of iron for buckles)
Tower Shield: A tower shield is used to cover the entire body of a person. This is most commonly used during an archer attack. (1 pound of steel + 1 pound of tanned leather + 1 pound of iron for buckles).
WEAPONS
THE BASICS
All characters have access to weapon proficiencies. For Soterion, those weapon proficiencies cover a range of weapons in that group: One-handed sword, two-handed sword, short blade, axe, two-handed axe, one-handed blunt, two-handed blunt, pole weapons, spear, thrown weapons, whips and segmented weapons. These areas are the weapon proficiencies referred to in the skills section.
Example: Leevant has spent enough skill points in one-handed sword to bring the skill up to 20. He is very skilled with those swords. Unfortunately, he never spent any points in the other proficiencies. He was recently disarmed and his only weapon now is a club (onehanded blunt) which he has no idea how to use in combat.
.
The followign list classifies weapons per group. This list describes the weapon cost, wei
ght, and damage value as per the size of the race using the weapon. A broad sword is proportionally identical regardless of the racial size of the weapon. Rather, for it to be useful, the weapon must be the proper size for the size of the race. A broad sword made for a Remmy would be a toothpick for a Raphad. In the same sense, a Remmy would be incapable of wielding a broadsword made for a Raphad.
