Charity giggled at the situation and hugged Annie and Ben before they skipped off to find their aunt and more cookies.
Epilogue
Three months later
Charity heard the front door open, and Jason’s boots hurrying along the floor to the kitchen.
“I have good news,” Jason told her.
“What? Would you like some coffee while you tell me?” Charity asked.
“Yes, I would, thank you. I stopped by the carpenter’s office on the way home from the office, and the ground has thawed enough that they’ll start to dig the foundation for the new house next week.”
“That’s wonderful news. I’m excited about the house, although I think you are spoiling us with all the extras you want included.”
“I’m allowed to spoil my wife and children,” Jason said, defending his decision on adding as many comforts to the house that he could.
“I suppose,” Charity said.
“You don’t agree?”
“Yes, I do, and I appreciate all you’ve done for us,” Charity answered, setting a cup of coffee on the table and kissing Jason’s cheek.
Jason nodded. “Do you think five bedrooms will be enough?”
“Yes,” Charity laughed. “We only need three now and a fourth in seven months.”
Jason nearly dropped his coffee cup when he understood Charity’s meaning.
“A baby? We’re going to have a baby,” Jason stammered.
Charity nodded.
Jason jumped from his chair, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her. When he pulled back, he said, “I love you, Charity Shepherd.”
“And I love you, Jason Shepherd.”
“Always?” Jason asked.
Charity smiled at the man she loved, “Always, I promise.”
