It’s very humbling for me to release this eighth novel in the Jesse McDermitt series. Jesse was a product of my imagination in the 1980s and the lead character in several short stories I wrote at the time. I never dreamed this character and this series would become so widely accepted and I’d be able to make a living telling Jesse’s stories. It’s been an enormously fun ride thus far, and I’m looking forward to many more adventures with Jesse.

I’d dreamed most of my life about being a writer. I know the stories in my mind are pretty good, but putting the words in just the right order was a learning experience, and I’m still learning. My dad was a hardworking man who had little formal education, yet he became a prominent builder in Central Florida. He once told me that he surrounded himself with brilliant people and simply directed what he wanted done and they made him look good.

So, I do the same. The story you just read didn’t look like this when I finished writing it. My team of beta readers, editors, proofreaders, cover designers, and formatters are the best that I can find in their fields. They make the book look like the story in my head, just as Dad’s team made his construction projects look like the plans in his head.
