“Just a night?* Arana asked.
He joined her laughter. “Maybe two or three. We haven’t shared pleasure for too long.”
“Share we will. Again and again.”
*Is coupling all you think about?* Verde asked. *The entire time we were at Sea Cliff thoughts of joining lay beneath your other thoughts.*
*We aren’t like dragons to be summoned to a mating flight,* Arana said.
*You should be. You do not carry an egg yet. That is why dragons mate.*
Arana giggled. *We don’t lay eggs.*
Drakon shook his head. “Verde, in time we will have a child or two.”
Roja landed on the forecourt. Arana used the dragon’s leg to dismount. By the time Drakon and Azure arrived she had removed the saddle. The cries of startled and hungry dragonets greeted the arrival.
Roja crept toward them. *They are small.*
*And noisy,* Azure added. *I’m sure we were never like them.*
*You were,* Arana said. *And you were louder. They will grow and learn to speak.*
Cerene and Tiron continued feeding the dragonets. Arana and Drakon joined the other young people.
“Welcome back.” Tiron brushed his dark hair from his forehead. “Tell us what happened at Sea Cliff.”
Cerene looked up. “All we know is that Verde growled and demanded sacks of thorns and berries to be strapped to his back. Then he left.” She looked toward the entrance to the cavern. “Where is the Old One?”
“Dead,” Drakon said.
“How sad. How did it happen? Did Lagon turn the blues on him?” Cerene finished feeding the red dragonet.
Arana sighed. “Before we tell you all that happened we need to feed our dragons.”
“Welcome back,” Radlan shouted. “I have feedings for them here.”
Arana and Drakon ran to the entrance. They wheeled barrows of meat inside. Arana added thorns and berries to the trough. Cerene and Tiron helped.
Sofona appeared at the cavern mouth. “Go wash your hands and faces. I’ve brought a meal for us to share. No sense telling your story twice.”
Before long the six settled around a cloth spread on the forecourt. Arana swallowed a bite of succulent chicken. “Lagon is dead, and so is Bekla. The dragon pairs have returned to their towers. Soon the four reds will lay green eggs.”
“The new lord of Sea Cliff Tower is kin to Lagon, but of a different temperament. Like Arana and me, he speaks without the tea.” Drakon began the story of the events at Sea Cliff.
When he stopped to eat Arana took up the tale. She told about the Old One’s death and how his sea burial had changed the bay. “So the wizards can trouble us no more.”
“That is good.” Radlan reached for the jug of ale. “Several young people from the village want to move here. I offered them rooms in the tower until houses can be built.”
Arana swallowed the last bite on her plate and rose. “Let us check the dragons and oil them. Then I want to bathe. There was no pool like ours at Sea Cliff.”
Drakon yawned. “After that I intend to retire. Tomorrow we can talk about the changes to come.”
Arana ran ahead of Drakon into the cavern. “Hurry.”
*Is that all you can think about?* three dragons shouted.
*It’s our nature.” Arana checked Roja’s hide. *Oil?*
*Tomorrow,* the red said. *I want to sleep.*
Arana sighed with relief. Verde’s whistling snore meant he was asleep. She stripped off her clothes and plunged into the pool. As she washed, Drakon joined her.
He grinned. “Were you excused, too?”
“Until tomorrow.”
He kissed her and stepped away to wash. Arana ducked to rinse and pulled herself onto the ledge. As Drakon emerged, she saw his desire displayed. She wrapped a towel around her and pulled on her boots. “Race you to the tower.”
Drakon pounded after her. He caught her at the foot of the stairs. “You win.”
“Not yet.”
They reached the door of their chamber at the same time. Arana ducked inside and dropped her clothes on the floor. She kicked off her boots and let her towel fall on the floor. Drakon closed the door. His towel, clothes, and boots, joined hers.
Arana feasted her eyes on his muscular shoulders, flat abdomen and engorged phala. He pulled her into his arms. Their mouths joined, tongues flicked and explored. She wiggled closer and slid her arms around her neck. Desire bloomed and threatened to explode. “Drakon.”
“I know.” He lifted her and carried her to the bed. His hands skimmed over her breasts making them ache for his mouth and tongue. As though he read her thoughts he leaned forward and suckled. She couldn’t halt the cry that rose from her depths. “Fill me. Fill me.”
He knelt between her legs and slid home. A jolt rode her skin. She wrapped her legs around him and moved with his thrusts and retreats until she felt the burn leading to completion. When she felt the gush of his release she found her own. “I love you.”
“As I love you.” He rolled to his side. “Wonderful.”
She kissed him. “But not enough.
“Give me a bit.”
She carried his hand to her mouth and kissed his palm. “We have time for pleasure now.” Slowly she explored his face with her fingers and slid a hand over his chest. She lay beside him on her stomach,
Drakon traced circles on her back. She turned her head and met his mouth. Ripples of anticipation rose from his feathery touches. His mouth and tongue followed the trail of fire that reached her core.
With a sigh, she turned and pushed him back. She straddled his thighs. She ran her hands along his neck and across his shoulders. As she caressed his chest his nipples responded. She touched them with her lips and tongue. Her hands moved across his abdomen and his muscles tightened. His phala filled. When she took his organ in her hands she watched and marveled at the changes. He growled. Her caresses became more demanding. Her breath quickened. His scent eddied around her.
“Ride my dragon.” Drakon’s voice emerged low and husky.
Arana rose and positioned herself. She slid over the tip and withdrew. Again she slid over him, taking him deeper before withdrawing. He grasped her waist and the third time he held her so she couldn’t withdraw. He wet the fingers of one hand in his mouth and slid them over her pleasure node. As he increased the tempo of his strokes, Arana’s body spasmed. Her muscles grasped his phala. She cried aloud. As he released his seed she collapsed on his chest.
He rolled so they were side to side. “I love you, my lord of High Peaks.”
Drakon nuzzled her neck. “You are my love and my land for now and forever.”
She yawned and snuggled against him. “Sleep well. When we wake we will love again.
*Did you make an egg?*
Arana laughed. *I don’t know.*
*Soon, I hope.*
*Good night, my friend. When the time is right I will know and so will you.” She pressed her lips to Drakon’s chest. “We must teach him not to listen all the time.”
“Let’s hope those green eggs are laid and hatch soon.”
“That should keep him too busy to pry.” She met his mouth in a kiss.
