“I’m so full,” Yari said rubbing her stomach, “But this tree is giving me the munchies again. What do I do? What do I do?”

“I don’t know why ya’ll let her smoke. Her little ass cannot handle the ganja.”

“Like you can?” Yari asked laughing, “When I met you, it took you at least ten to twenty minutes to roll one blunt.”

“That may be, but I’m a pro at this point.”

“Pro? If Jonah never put you on game, you would still be buying pre-rolls,” she joked.

“Bitch, I still buy pre-rolls, so boom!”

“Who’s Jonah?” Malachi asked sitting up a bit.

“Her ex I guess you could say. He was murdered though.”

  “Yari,” Trina snapped.

“What? It’s not like they haven’t heard of him anyway. King Jonah was famous.”

  “What you mean?”

“You don’t know who Jonah Lee is?” Yari asked sucking her teeth at Malachi’s ignorance.

“I’m not from here, baby. Why don’t you fill me in?”

“The Rich Gang is a huge organization throughout Sacramento. They’ve pretty much ran all these other weak-ass niggas out the city, and you can’t go anywhere without seeing RG somewhere. Jonah was the head of all that. He ran businesses, he put on charity benefits, he was just a really good dude, you know? Unfortunately, he was murdered before him and Trina could get married,” Yari slurred.

“Can I talk to you?” she asked yanking Yari off of the pool chair. The full cup of truth juice she continued to guzzle spilled all over the white glass tile.

“What?” she whined. Trina waited until there were inside before she spoke.

“What are you doing? I wanted to tell Los about Jonah myself, and not have it come from your drunk ass. How do I just say, ‘Oh, yeah, by the way, my last dude was a trap god, and now I’ve inherited all of his money and property’?”

“I guess I didn’t think about that, but I mean what’s the problem? You trust Los, right?”

“Define trust,” she said sitting down, “Me and Los are working on rebuilding our friendship. He hasn’t been in my life for a very long time, you know, so I don’t feel the need to divulge every last little bit of my life to him at this point.”

“Ay, I think we about to get out of here,” Los said opening the sliding glass door walking into the kitchen.

“Oh, okay,” Trina said not knowing what else to say.

“You ready, baby?” Malachi asked coming in behind him.

“Yeah, I guess, let me just get my purse.”

“You guys want to take some food home? We really made too much,” Trina asked Los, but he never looked up from his phone.

“Naw, I’m good. Thank you though.

Ding. Dong. Ding. Dong. Ding. Dong.

“I’ll be right back,” she said heading for the door. When she opened it, it was the last person she expected to see.

  “Renee?”

“Hey,” she said uncomfortably switching her purse to the other arm.

  “What are you doing here?”

“I know I probably should’ve called first, but I didn’t know how the conversation would go, so I just decided to stop by.”

  “Okay.”

“I got everything situated with the kids’ accounts.”

“That’s good. I’m happy cause if nothing else, all Jonah wanted was for his kids to be taken care of. My offer will always be on the table. At the end of the day, it’s not about me, you, or even Jonah; it’s about them.”

“I agree, and I’m willing to put the past behind me for the sake of the kids which is why I’m here. Tiana said that she had some toys and other things that she wanted me to get. I offered to replace them, but she insisted because they were from ‘Daddy’s house.’”

“Okay,” Trina said remembering that Los and Malachi were still inside, “How about I pack everything up, and I can ship it to her and Jo all at once? Jonah bought them so much stuff.”

“That sounds good. We can definitely do that, but Tiana really wanted me to get this pink and purple pony?”

  “Sparkles,” Trina sighed.

  “Yeah, that’s it, Sparkles.”

“Right now is not really a good time, Renee…”

“Why not?” she asked instantly catching an attitude.

“Trina, I did end up taking a plate,” Los said walking up behind her.

“A bad time, huh?” Renee asked pushing the door against Trina’s chest, “This is what you call a bad time? Bitch, I knew it. I knew you were a snake from the moment I met you, but after everything that happened, for the sake of my kids, I was ready to squash it.”

“It’s not what it looks like.”

“You could’ve fooled me cause it looks like one, two, three,” she said counting off Yari, Malachi, and Los who were now all standing in the foyer by the front door, “and you make four. It was only about the money for you, huh, bitch? You couldn’t wait to move someone else in here.”

“Renee, nobody lives here but me.”

“You’re fake as fuck, but you got yours coming, and that’s on Jonah,” she said turning around. Sparkles would have to wait.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” Trina said as she watched Renee pull off.

  “My bad, T, I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s good. It’s not your fault. That hoe will always hate me. I’m used to it. I’ll see ya’ll later,” she said standing in front of the door. She didn’t feel like explaining anything to anyone. Her life was already too complicated.

  . . .

“So you coming in?” Yari asked as Malachi parked in front of her house.

“Naw, me and Los got some business to catch up with. I’ll hit you tomorrow or something.”

“Okay,” she said poking out her lips.

  “What you about to do?”

“Probably just go to sleep. I’m horny as fuck, but I’ll make due.”

“Don’t play with me like that,” Malachi said opening his side door. He pulled her into him until she was resting in between his legs. She played in his dreads as their lips touched. Chills shot through Yari’s body, but she peeled herself away from his Hennessy-scented lips.

“Good night,” she said walking into the house.”

“So shorty’s the one, huh?” Los asked as they both watched Yari walk inside.

“Man, I’m just having fun. I’m not tryna be tied down to nobody.”

“She just seems like a space cadet.”

“Her pussy is fire. End of story. What about you though?”

“Nigga, you heard your girl tonight. She confirmed everything I had been waiting for Trina to tell me. Popping that nigga Jonah was the smartest decision I could’ve made. She’s acting like we can’t get back what we had because she feels guilty about cheating on him if that’s even fucking cheating, so I’ve been giving her space. She’ll know when the time is right, and best believe a young god will be right there when she comes to her senses. Trina’s not sitting pretty by herself in that big-ass house for no reason. She has connections, and I intend on finding out who they are.”

“You know she’s falling for you again, right?” Malachi asked lighting a blunt that sat in the ashtray.

  “That’s the point.”

  Chapter 10

  “Trina told you I called?”

“No, that bitch never gives me my messages. When’d you call?”

  “Earlier today.”

“I was at home sleep,” Yari lied, “Where you at though?”

“Lux. I told Trina that ya’ll should’ve came through.”

  “Well, I’m at home now.”

  “Doing what?”

  “Missing daddy.”

  “Is that right?”

“Yes, my pussy has been so wet just thinking about you. I want you to fuck me, Omari.”

  “Yeah?”

“Yes,” she purred into the phone.

  “I’m on my way then.”

  “What about baby mama?
she asked feeling like being messy.

“I’m with you tonight. Why you asking me that? Where’s old boy?”

“You know nobody compares to you. See you in a little bit,” she said hanging up. She jumped off the bed and immediately stripped down. She had spent the entire day with Malachi, and she could still smell his cologne in her skin. Although she and Omari were no longer together, their arrangement worked for the both of them. She knew that her being with Malachi bothered him even though he would never admit it, so she was willing to play his game for as long as he was.

She stepped into shower and let the steaming hot water surround her body. She picked up her light pink loofa and saturated it with Olay body wash. The small gold flecks covered her skin as she continued to lather. Twenty minutes later after making sure every trace of Malachi had been washed away, Yari stepped out of the tub and wrapped her small body in a big black towel. Her naturally curly hair fell to her shoulders as steam filled the air. She slipped on a midnight blue silk robe over her tobacco-colored skin letting her perky B-cups peek through the front. She left the robe untied not wanting to waste time while Omari unwrapped her.

  Ding. Dong.

Yari took one last look in the mirror and slid a small layer of strawberry-scented lip balm over her lips before she went to go answer the door.

  “Who is it?”

  “Mar.”

Yari stared through the peephole making sure he was alone. When she opened the door, his eyes immediately began to follow every curve of her body.

  “Damn, like that?”

“I wasn’t playing about me not wanting to waste time,” she said licking her fingers and lightly rubbing her clit, “I need you.” Her pussy was on fire.

Omari grabbed her by the waist and pulled her into him as he shut the door. His hands glided across the silkiness that covered her until they were firmly gripped around her buns. He covered her neck in kisses leaving a wet trail with each one.

“You got my dick hard as fuck,” he said grabbing the anaconda that was begging to be released.

“Well, use it then,” Yari said slipping her robe completely off her shoulders slowly switching her way to her bedroom, and Omari didn’t wait long before he was right behind her. When he walked in, she had incenses and candles lit all over the room.

“What’s all this?” he asked as he kissed the back of her neck and traced his fingertips along the sides of her arms. Every hair on her body stood up.

“I just thought I’d surprise you with a little something,” she said turning around standing on her tippy toes to give him a kiss on the lips, “Take your clothes off.”

Doing as he was told, Omari took off every single piece of clothing he had on and laid down on the bed with his dick standing straight up.

  “Lay on your stomach.”

  “What?”

  “Lay on your stomach.”

“Yari, look, I’m not into that weird shit.”

  “Shut up, I’m being serious.”

“Me too, and even if I wanted to, I couldn’t. Look at this thang,” he said pointing down.

“Oooohhhh, I swear you always gotta ruin everything,” Yari said grabbing a small jar of massage oil from off her dresser. She slowly straddled him resting his dick against her clit. He became even harder at the scene.

Yari covered her hands in the lightly scented oil and gently rubbed his chest. She worked her way down from his arms, hands, and stomach all the way to his legs and feet until his body glistened under the dim lighting. With every hand motion she made, Yari grinded against his dick making sure that he never went inside of her. It was driving Omari crazy.

Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring. Ring.

His phone began to go off. He wanted to ignore it, but he knew he couldn’t.

“Who is that?” Yari asked noticing him becoming distracted.

  “Renee,” he sighed.

“Renee? You mean Jonah’s Renee? What the fuck is she calling you for? Please don’t tell me that you’re fucking that white bitch.”

“Naw, man,” he said taking one last look at Yari’s perfect body before he lifted her off him, “It’s nothing like that. Renee has Jonah’s kids, and it’s my job to make sure that they have what they need.”

“Okay, that’s all well and good, but it’s like almost midnight, so please tell me what the fuck she needs from you right now.”

“Yari, give me a minute,” he said walking into the living room, “What’s up, Renee? Wait a minute, wait a minute, slow down.”

“Now I know how this bitch Trina feels,” she said pulling the covers up over her chest feeling rejected, “Ugh.”

Five minutes turned to ten, ten into twenty, and there was still no sign of Omari. Yari bent down over the side of the bed and pulled her weed box from underneath. She grabbed the scissors and a Backwood leaf from inside preparing to roll up the dark green buds she sat on the bed when he finally walked back into the room. From the look on his face, she already knew that whatever Renee had to say wasn’t good.

“What’s up?” she asked continuing to trim the leaf down.

“You didn’t see Trina at all today, right?”

  “No, I told you I didn’t, why?”

“Renee just said that she went over Trina’s house to get some of the kids’ stuff, and she was in there with two dudes and another female.”

“Well that female wasn’t me. Trina does have other friends, you know?”

  “Who?”

“Does it matter? You gon’ fuck around and go and accuse Trina based off some shit this messy-ass bitch put in your ear? I know my girl, and believe me, she’s not fucking with anybody. You’re being paranoid.”

“I hope you’re right. I need Trina focused, man. A nigga is the last thing she needs to be worried about.”

“So let me ask you a question then,” Yari asked lightly sealing the Backwood closed with her lips, “If Trina does find someone she’s interested in then that means she can’t pursue it, or what?”

“In my opinion, no. Trina was with Jonah, and if it wasn’t for Jonah, she would have never been exposed to RG. The big boss sees something in her, and now she holds a different position than she did before. She’s held to a higher standard, and she essentially represents Jonah. How would it look to have another nigga in the midst of all that?”

“What if she was able to keep it separate, you know? Home at home. Work at work.”

“Believe me, Yari, you can never keep shit like that separate, and why are you asking all these hypotheticals if she’s not fucking with anybody?”

“I’m high,” she said finally lighting up.

“Ask me why I don’t believe you though?” he asked putting his clothes back on as he tried to wipe off all of the excess oil that still remained.

“Why you mad at me?” she asked sitting up.

“I’m not mad. I just remembered I had some shit to handle. I’ma hit you though,” he said grabbing his jacket.

Yari knew deep down that Omari believed that Trina was messing with someone else, and somehow, she was to blame. She waited until she heard the front door close before she called her. She waited and waited, but no answer.

“You have reached 9-1-6-8-4-7-1-3-9-6. Please leave a message after the beep. Beep.”

“Trina, it’s me. That stupid bitch Renee called Omari and told him that you’re basically over there having a dick party. I didn’t say shit, but he still didn’t believe me. Be careful, girl, and don’t say anything about me being there cause I told him I wasn’t. I gotta keep Malachi and Omari away from each other for as long as I can. Call me when you get this. Bye.”

  . . .

  The Next Day…

Trina woke up with her head pounding. She had spent the whole night tossing and turning. After Yari’s drunken rendition of the truth, she had to talk to Los. There was still so much she hadn’t told him, and if they were working on getting to know each other again, she wanted to be completely honest. Looking at the
clock and realizing that she wasn’t going to get anymore sleep, she got up. She grabbed her phone, slid on her slippers, and headed downstairs. Completely embarrassed by Renee’s dramatic scene, she disconnected from the world. When she turned on her phone, she saw she had a voicemail from Yari, so she sat down in the nook in the kitchen before pressing play.

Bye.”

Trina felt like the walls were closing in on her. When Jonah first died, all she wanted to do was avenge his death and continue the work that he literally died for, but now all she wanted was her life back. Being a part of RG meant that she was married to the organization, and she would forever be Jonah’s girl in their eyes, but she couldn’t blame them. He had given her the world, and she couldn’t turn her back on that.

As she sat still thinking about what to say to Omari, she heard a loud knock on the door.

“It’s open,” she yelled. She was ready to accept her fate.

“Why you got the door unlocked?” Omari asked walking into the kitchen.

“What’s up, Mar?” she asked not wanting to hear his lecture for the day.

“I know you talked to Yari,” he said sitting next to her.

  “About what?”

“Okay, let me put it this way. I talked to Renee last night.”

  “And?”

“And she had some shit to say that I didn’t really like, but being that I know what type of bitch you are, I thought I’d ask you first before I jump to any conclusions.”

“Just say it, Omari, you’re making me nervous.”

“Renee said that she came over here, and you had some people over, but it looked like you was tryna be on some sneaky shit.”

“Renee did stop by, yes, and there were people here, but as you can see, I’m alone. You can check the house if you want. It’s 7 a.m., Mar. It’s really too early for all this shit.”
