Twist of Fate

Sarah saw the look Remy was giving her, and she was immediately intrigued. “Unless what?”

“It seems as though we both have something the other one needs.”

Sarah smiled slyly. “You do have something I need, but I don’t think you’re going to be up for that for a while.”

“That’s not what I meant, naughty girl.” Remy winked. “And, I’ll have you know, I’m a fast healer.”

“So, what did you have in mind?” Sarah knew what Remy was suggesting, and she felt her heartbeat quicken. When Parker announced she was leaving, Sarah’s first thought was teaming up with Remy. They would be great together, and it would mean seeing her every day instead of every few weeks.

“I think you know.” Remy smiled. “So, what do you say? Think you would want to chase with me?”

Sarah shook her head from side—to—side. “Nah, I don’t think so. We would never get along spending that much time together.”

Remy opened her mouth to protest, but she saw Sarah’s eyes twinkling mischievously. “So, you want to do this?”

“Yes.” Sarah leaned over Remy and kissed her lips. “But, as lovers and partners first. The other stuff is just our job. I love you.” She saw Remy raise her eyebrows. “Yes, I love you. If we do this, I don’t want you to forget that I’m your first love. You can’t lose focus of us.”

Remy studied Sarah’s face then smiled. “I won’t. I love you, Sarah. I think I have since that first night. I love chasing too. But, you taught me that there’s room for both in my heart. Plus, I know if I ever get crazy again, you will always pull me back.”

“Then I’m in.” Sarah kissed her again. “When you’re feeling better, will you do that thing to me again?”

Remy felt the heat start to creep into her face. She saw the storms of emotion swirling in Sarah’s eyes, and she knew for the first time in her life, she had found her home.

I have always wanted to write a story about Storm Chasers. I have been fascinated by storms since I was a kid. The 2011 storm season made this book somewhat difficult to write. It was with a heavy heart, that I created a story around two characters with such a dangerous profession. To the real life chasers, you guys are amazing! I can only imagine the fear you face every day. I admire your drive and your desire to research such a destructive force in an effort to gather as much data and prevent as much loss of life as possible.

I’d like to thank Terry and Krista for reading every word I write, and not being afraid to tell me when I need to change something.

And, to the love of my life, thank you for believing in us.

Syd Parker was born in California and resides in Indiana. She loves golfing, biking and spoiling her ten nieces and nephews. She loves to travel and anywhere on the water feels like home. She spends her days toiling away at her day job until she figures out a way to drop the last fifteen strokes to make it on the LPGA tour, although she's totally mastered Tiger Woods Golf on the Wii.

Most days when she's not writing, you will find her on the trails or riding her road bike and praying she doesn't end up in another ditch.

She loves to read a good love story and thoroughly enjoys writing them as well. "It isn't just about writing a story, it's about creating a world and having the reader climb into it, experiencing it in first person. That's my goal...that's why I write."
