Valentine Cowboys Page 10

  “No.” Justus shook his head.

He’d thought about things a lot lately and more than that, he’d actually researched their situation. Him, a cow wrangler, had actually snuck into the Maverick office today and gotten on the Internet. He’d searched three-way relationships like his and Dakota’s and Melody. After Melody had told them she’d learned that crazy move that had made him shoot off like a geyser on the Internet, he’d thought he’d give it a shot for this, and boy had it been an eye-opener. Apparently they were not so unique after all, and that had inspired him to let this thing with them play out for a little longer.

Yeah, it might end with just Justus and Melody together. Hell, it could end with neither of them with her. But then again, it might not.

“Justus, just think about what I—”

“Dakota, I like the way things are. Don’t you?“

His best friend on Earth nodded his head. “I like it just fine. You know that.”

“Then we’ll let it ride and see where things go. Okay?”

“Just promise me that if in the future things change—”

“If things change, then we’ll discuss it. All three of us this time, not just the two of you,” Melody said as she appeared in the doorway, arms crossed over her chest. “Since I’m going to be working here for the next six months, maybe longer, that’s how things are going to be. All three of us, together, got it?”

She cocked a brow and waited. As what she’d said sunk in, Justus knocked himself out of the shock and ran for her. With a whoop, he picked her up and spun her around. “You got the job?”

  Melody smiled. “I did.”

More than that, she wanted to be with him, with them both, and that was very good news. Especially after last night in the hotel, which was very possibly the most amazing night of his life. The three of them had made love for hours and then fallen asleep with Melody snuggled in between them until they had to sneak back to the bunkhouse, only to find, as expected, Blue wasn’t there anyway because—not coincidentally—Miss Casey had arrived and was staying in the main house.

Dakota stepped up to them and smiled. “Congratulations. You deserve it.”

“Thank you. I would have never got the job if you didn’t suggest me for it.” She shook her head.

Justus watched the exchange. It was a long cry from that night just a few days ago when Dakota and Melody had faced off in the bar. Him holding his grudge, her holding on to her façade to impress them. Hell, it was even further from where they all were back in fifth grade when she’d caused them to pummel each other. Now, things between the three of them were like night and day from the past.

Dakota leaned in, and while Melody was still in Justus’s arms, kissed her solid on the mouth. When he pulled back she was smiling bigger than Justus had seen her smile since she’d been back in town.

“I think we need to celebrate.” Justus smiled just from looking at her and how happy she was.

Melody nodded. “Definitely. What should we do?”

“I have a few ideas.” Dakota’s brows rose suggestively.

Justus laughed. “I’m sure you do.” And he couldn’t wait to find out what they were.
