  I was breathless, and my lips were tingling by the time he pulled back.

  “You are insatiable,” I accused, huskily as I cleared my throat.

  “You’re the one who proposed to me,” He said as he grinned at me.

  “You’re never going to let me live that down, are you?” I shook my head in amusement as I called out for the kids. They helped me set the table, and I was putting Annabelle in her baby chair when Clay’s phone rang.

  I gave Clay a warning look. “Clay, please. No calls at dinner. You just got home.”

  He glanced at the caller ID and held up his finger apologetically. “Just one minute, I promise.”

  He stood in the corner of the room as I began to serve the food.

  “Hey, Bear,” he greeted, cheerfully. Clay listened intently until the blood suddenly drained from his face, and his hands fell to his side.

  I frowned. “What’s wrong?”

  “He’s dead.”
