Finn sent magic out of his hands and struggled to move the village. He lifted one side so that the little town was now on an angle. Jake, still asleep in the temple, slid across the floor and out a window. He landed under a tree, still snoring loudly. Finn was too focussed on the approaching space rock to notice.
Finn grunted. It was no use. Even with all his powers, he couldn’t move the entire kingdom. And the asteroid was getting closer!
Finn let the side of the royal village he had been holding fall back to the ground.
‘I need some help!’ he called out.Then he saw Jake sound asleep under the tree. Finn, unable to let a sleeping dog lie, quickly cast an awake spell. ‘Jake! Awaken!’
‘Reflect,’ Jake ordered in his sleep.
Finn’s spell bounced off of him.
‘Hey, I’m alive!’ said a surprised rock that was on the receiving end of the awake spell. But then the poor, newly conscious rock noticed the threatening asteroid overhead. ‘What’s that up there? Oh, no!’
Finn moaned to himself. ‘My stupid young idea will be responsible for hundreds of deaths.’
‘It sure will,’ the old wizards, who now appeared all around him, agreed.
They were decked out like Finn – with wings, dragon eyes and claws and swords for hands.
Finn called out in surprise. ‘Old wizards!You ditched your responsibility to help me!’
‘What?’ one of the wizards answered. ‘No, we left so we wouldn’t be killed by that asteroid!’
‘Oh, okay,’ Finn replied.They might not have bought into his idea entirely, but at least they were there. ‘Well, since you’re here already, can you lend me a hand?’
The three of them aimed their magic at the village and moved it.
Seconds later, the asteroid exploded where the castle and homes had been, but the citizens were safe inside the relocated kingdom.
The explosion singed the clothes right off Finn and the old wizards. It even tore the new hair, fur and clothes off of Jake, who was still lying under the tree.
When the dust settled, Finn and the wizards put the village back on top of the blast site.
Jake asked, looking around. ‘What happened?’
Finn yelled in triumph.
‘Nice job!’ he said to the old wizards. ‘Thanks to us, the village is saved. And we reclaimed a few of your twilight years.’
‘Don’t forget to thank me,’ Bufo said as he approached the group, ‘for this was my plan all of these 847 years.’
‘No way!’ Finn argued. ‘Your plan was to dupe a succession of rubes into keeping the asteroid at bay.’
‘Perhaps you are right,’ Bufo agreed sadly. ‘No more giving out free powers. I hereby renounce all magic. My life is over!’ Bufo began to cry hysterically.
Finn ordered. ‘You don’t have to quit your job.’
‘I don’t?’ Bufo asked, still sobbing.
‘Naw. Just don’t take credit for ideas that aren’t yours,’ Finn answered.
‘Oh, okay,’ Bufo quickly agreed. ‘Good idea. I’m glad I thought of it.’
Then it was time for Finn and Jake – still butt naked – to head home. On their way, they met up with the Reaper again.
the Reaper called out holding up a disgusting internal organ. ‘You want some free demon heart?’
Finn answered quickly.
Jake hollered with excitement while pumping his fist.
This was too good to pass up, and surely this time it just had to end differently.
