OverTime (The Dartmouth Cobras Book 9) Page 39

Ford opened the workbook, coughing to cover a laugh as he looked over the anime style drawings on every page. The work had been done, but the numeric answers were difficult to make out between the dragons and warriors. Flipping through the book, Ford saw that Jaxon had drawn on every single page.

“I see what you mean about being bored.” Ford closed the book. “And I’ll get him a new one. Can I keep this?”

“Of course.” Mr. Martin smiled. “I’ll send you the information about the change in classes next week. Aside from that, all I can say is you should be very proud of your son.”

“Believe me, I am.” Ford rose as the teacher did, shaking his hand again. “We all are.”

As soon as they were out of the crowded school, Cort lifted Jaxon up and sat him on his shoulder, a big grin spreading across his face as Jaxon shouted in feigned protest. Cort shook his head, glancing down at Akira. “Can you believe this kid? And he was worried. Ha! Keep it up, boy, and you’re gonna be teaching that class.”

“I knew you were going to be just fine, sweetie.” Akira patted Jaxon’s leg, then hugged Ford’s arm. “But advanced classes? Lead in the school play? Look at him go!”

Kissing her hair, Ford gazed up at Jaxon, more and more amazed every damn day by the kid. He might have missed years with him, but he was where he belonged now. And he was thriving.

  “That’s our boy.”

  THE END

  About the Author

Tell you about me? Hmm, well, there’s not much to say. I love hockey and cars and my kids…not in that order, of course! Lol! When I’m not writing—which isn’t often—I’m usually watching a game or a car show while networking. Going out with my kids is my only downtime. I get to clear my head and forget everything.

As for when and why I first started writing, I guess I thought I’d get extra cookies if I was quiet for a while—that’s how young I was. I used to bring my grandmother barely legible pages filled with tales of evil unicorns. She told me then that I would be a famous author.

I hope one day to prove her right.
