“Honestly tho’ Sam. I don’t even know where we at. So much drama and shit. The bitch always drunk. I couldn’t tell you.” He said.

“I could have told you that. I deal with these people on a daily basis. Just stay strong. If it’s meant to be, then you guys will work things out.” She placed her hand on his head. Ty grabbed her hand, pressing his lips against it. “I’m here if you need me okay? I could at least cook you some homemade food. You seemed to enjoy that.”

“Thanks girl.” He stood up. “What ‘bout later? I could go fo’ some cooked food.”

“You are really hopeless. I’ll be by later. Now get out my office boy I gotta work.” He laughed and left her office. He stopped by the ticket booths to grab his drives for today.

“Ah good Carpenter. You got six tickets today.”

“Really? What’s with the heavy workload?”

“Word is out about you and the film star. I’m guessing you watch your back. Might be reporters looking for exclusives.”

  “Fuckin’ Hollywood.”

  “Fuckin’ Hollywood.”

Madison walked through LAX. Any other day, she would have stopped and allowed the paps to snap a few shots, but her mind was in a different place. There were many areas in her life she needed to fix. After Ty came to New York, she caught the red eye out to LA to give a statement to the police to help her mother. Having to go into details of years of abuse in front of her mother was one of the worst memories of her life. She could still hear her mother’s cries. She had to leave immediately, going back to New York to clear her mind. Ty was right. She did needed to get her life together or she would lose everything. She could feel she was losing Ty. Many nights, she cried wondering how would he truly love and accept her with her past.

“Taxi!” She waved down a taxi. She would surprise him and make things work. She gave the driver Ty’s address and sat back. Street lights kicked on as they made their way to his neighborhood.

  “Here.”

“Thanks.” She tossed the money through the small window and jumped out the smelly car. She walked into the building, taking the elevator to his floor. Digging in her bag, looking for her key she hear music coming through the door. She smiled. Thank god he’s here, she thought. She opened the door and walked into several half-eaten food plates on his coffee table. The stereo in the corner played soft jazz. She closed the door behind her and made her way to the back. “Ty?” Madison opened the bedroom door and inhaled so sharply it hurt. The woman was beautiful with silky hair. Her cocoa skin of her back stood out the most. She moaned softly and kissed Ty. Both of them unaware that Madison stood in the doorway as they were concentrated on each other’s bodies. The memory etched in her mind forever. The woman riding Ty sensuously, letting Madison know that this wasn’t a fuck. There was feelings involved and that was a serious blow to her heart. He wrapped his arms around the woman, pulling her close. Madison didn’t know she was gripping the door so hard that it slipped out her sweaty palm, smacking the wall with a bang. They both jumped, looking towards the door.

“Mattie?!” He gently pushed the woman to the side. Her eyes narrowed and she wanted to scream. Her face was blank and so cold. “What are you doing here? I thought you were in New York!” He was shocked and caught.

“Obviously. You can take this back and give it to this- this woman.” She couldn’t even call her a bitch. Fighting tears, she twisted the ring off and threw it at his feet. Head held high, she walked out the apartment. Right there, she vowed that no one could be trusted in her life and she would be forever alone. One of the most desirable movie stars was battered, broken, and alone.

“Oh girlll...come in.” Victoria greeted, letting Samantha in.

  “Where’s my cousin at?”

“Girl who the fuck knows. I don’t keep up with him. I got my baby to worry with.” She smiled, rubbing her belly. Sam leaned over and talked to her belly.

“Hey baby cousin. How you doing today?” They cracked up laughing. They moved away from the door and into the kitchen.

“What you been doing lately? I barely get to see you. Well that’s everyone here in this damn town with the awards finishing up and movie budgets for clothes come in.” Victoria took a seat on her vacated stool.

“Who you telling?! I’ve gotten so many calls. I want this in my car or that.” She took a seat across from her, pulling a free plate of food over to her.

“Fuckin’ celebrities. Honestly I love my job but hates when Leona wants to jump up and design every flavor of the moment gown. Like now she driving everybody crazy over that hoe, Madison’s wedding dress.” Victoria popped a grape in her mouth.

Thought y’all was good friends and all?” Victoria shot her a stank look.

“There some shit about that one.”

“Well I’ll tell you this first hand ain’t gonna be a wedding anymore.” She revealed.

  “How you know?”

“I work with Ty down at the company. The brotha been feeling me for a while now. Shit, I mean he fine as hell. We been flirting and shit. I went to his place a couple times, done cook for the boy, which tells me she can’t do shit. So last night, I go over cooked and we chilled. Nigga made a move finally and I went with the shit.”

  “No you didn’t Sam?!”

“Yes the fuck I did. We gettin’ down real good. I was riding that dick good and guess who shows up in the doorway?”

  “That bitch.”

“Yes Miss High and Mighty. Got all dramatic, threw the ring at him and bounced.” Victoria threw her hands in the air and clapped.

“Oh finally the bitch got what she deserves. What happened next?”

“After she left. He kinda feels bad, but I wasn’t letting that dick go to waste. I got him back in bed to finish.”

“Damn girl you wild! Oh lemme tell about this shit. Why I find out two months ago that her and Sutton been fuckin’ for a year behind my back. This bitch was supposed to be my fuckin’ friend.”

  “You lyin’!”

“Swear to motherfuckin’ god and on the head of my unborn daughter. Had the nerve to play sorry like she was innocent. I swear they better watch that sneaky bitch. That’s the white people half in her ass.”

“Always fuckin’ dramatic and wants some nigga.” Sam added in. Victoria sighed.

“Girl, you don’t know how good you made me feel. I’m also glad that dress done. I ain’t want to help with the shit anyway. But don’t tell Sutton this at all cause I’m know his ass would try to run back under her ass if he found out. I’ve been enjoying him get punched in the balls over she with someone else.”

“I got you. Nigga may be my cousin but you know we close like sisters.”

“I ain’t told no one this but I felt dumb as shit. You remember Maxine?”

“Yeah. At that shop over there.”

“I was looking at a dress a while back telling her about my suspicious and how he ran into Madison. She said from the jump that shit don’t go down like that and I should have listened to her. Everybody was seeing the shit but me.”

“Well take comfort that she’s alone now and I will be taking her man.”

“You’re the best.” Victoria said, reaching over to touch Sam’s hand. “Seriously thank you.”

Madison went back to New York to finish her scenes that was needed of her for the movie. She thanked god, they finished wrapping her stuff earlier and let the rest of her co-stars go ahead with the rest of the movie. The rest of her free time she spent secluded to her house only answering calls from Tammy, Jill, or her mother. Ty had attempted to contact her a few times, but she ignored him too. He was just like all the others who let her down. She accepted the fact that she would be alone forever. It was just better this way. She continued to stare at her bedroom ceiling.

“Madison Ann!” She sat up to Josefina in the doorway. “Oh sweetie. Wha
t did he do?” She sat a seat next to her in the bed. “This is not healthy. You know this right.”

“I know, but I don’t have the energy to face the world.”

“Do you want to talk about Ty?” Madison started to cry. Oh how she loved him: soft, caring, and gentle. How she hated him: cheater, liar, and heartbreaker.

“I found him in bed with another woman. I could have accepted the fact that she was just there as a quick lay or something. I know I haven’t been there for him like I should, but I let my own personal issues affect my relationships. But the way they were together ma you could tell they had feelings for each other. I won’t compete with that. I mean look who I am? Who is she? If I was all he needed, then she wouldn’t have been in the picture.”

“Then honey let him go. If someone loves two people, then the first didn’t matter for the second to be.” Josefina spoke. Madison nodded.

“Yes ma’am. I know you taught me that much.”

“Good. Now get up and get yourself over to your agent. She been blowing me up to get you over there for information about the premiere screening of the movie you just finished. You do know that’s tonight right?” Madison shot out of bed.

“Oh my god! I totally forgot. Why you let me stay in bed this long?”

“You did that yourself hermit lady. I’ll meet you later at Romeo’s okay.”

“Okay.” Madison hurried to her shower to clean herself up. The shower felt nice, chasing away her depression. She would move on and feel like a person again. Once she was dressed, she opened her garage and jumped in her candy apple red corvette, her pride and joy, then drove to Hollywood. She parked in a spot next to Jill’s building and got out. Walking around to the sidewalk, she stopped short upon seeing Victoria pushing a baby girl in a fancy stroller with her assistant. Victoria gave a smirk.

  “Hey Madison.” She greeted coolly.

“Hey Victoria. You had a girl?”

“Yes her name is Michelle. Heard about Ty. Can’t say I’m sorry though just Karma.”

“Well congratulations.” She went to walk away.

“Sam’s very happy with Ty, Madison. So I hope you don’t try to get him back cause Sam is not nice like me she will do more than give you a slap get my drift.”

“Yeah. I got it. Excuse me.” She flew into the building and could hear them laughing at her. She wished she never came out of her house. As she got closer, she heard voices from Jill’s office.

“I’m sorry. But if I knew where she was, I’d wouldn’t tell you. For all I know you could me a crazy fan.” Jill stated with a stern voice.

“But she knows me. Jill you know me.”

“I’m sorry Ty. I can’t help you ok.” Taking a deep breath, Madison walked in.

“I’m here for my pass and time. Jill make it quick please.” Jill grabbed the packet off her desk and gave to Madison.

  “I will call you Madison.”

“Thanks.” She turned around and left the office with Ty trailing behind her.

“Mattie stop I want to talk to you.” She stopped and faced him.

  “What?”

  “Are you doing okay? I-”

  “I’m fine.” She interrupted.

“Why you ain’t answer my calls?”

“I’m sure there is nothing to say. It is what it is.”

“I’m sorry. I wanted to tell you that. I didn’t want to hurt you.”

“But you did with a woman who obviously you got feelings for. So it’s best if you just leave me alone Ty.”

  “Is that what you want?”

“You’re with that woman, aren’t you?” She asked.

“Why does that matter what’s goin’ on here?”

  “Just answer the question.”

“We been kickin’ it that’s it.”

“So fucking her. You so full of shit. Just stay away from me okay.” She started to walk away.

“I really broke you, did I? I can tell by your eyes.” She held in her tears in check, leaving him behind her in her past where he now belong.

  Chapter 9

Madison staggered into Romeo’s and fell into the nearest chair she saw.

“Romeo. Fix me up. I have to be ready for the cruel world by five.”

“Tsk Tsk are we drunk little girl?” He asked, prepping her face for makeup. “And look at these dark circles. Who is he? And why has he did such a number on you little girl?”

  “You don’t want to know.”

“I’ve known you since you were little and your mother. What does she say about this?”

“Let him go and move on.”

“Good advice now follow it honey. I’m good at my job, but I can’t do miracles all the time.”

“I agree.” Madison looked in the mirror to see her mom, standing there.

“Hey mom.” Josefina took the seat next to her.

“Close eyes.” She did. “Josefina su hija ha estado bebiendo.”

  “Madison!”

  “Oh mama.”

“No I’m getting you some coffee. You have your screening tonight.”

  “Lips.”

“Just let me cope the way I know how. It’s been rough year for me.”

“Yes Mattie it has. But you did a right thing ending that affair with your friend’s husband. With Ty, things were serious, but it’s just things don’t work out. Now go out and date an actor. That will keep you busy.” Josefina spoke.

“Yeah. Thanks ma.” Romeo started washing and blow drying her hair.

“You should let me cut it.”

“No way. I had gotten an ugly cut in the seventh grade and I told myself never again besides the normal trim.”

“If I remember correctly, you took the scissors to your own hair grown ass.” Romeo put the finishing touches by finger waving and placing it in a high ponytail.

  “Hmph.”

“Well have you at least call this dick or spoken to him?” Romeo questioned.

  “Earlier.”

“Well like I said earlier, he did a number on you sweetie. You looking miserable without the boy.” Romeo walked away and Madison looked down at the ground. She knew that to be true.

  *******************************

They stepped out of the limo, blinded by the flashing lights.

  “Madison! Madison over here!”

“What do you have to say about the break up?”

  “Where’s Ty?”

  “Are you pregnant?”

“Come on baby.” Josefina grabbed Madison’s arm and pulled her forward. “You don’t have to answer them.”

“How is she handling the breakup?”

“Very good. Excuse us?” The crowd was getting rough and heavy that security had to escort of the stars to the door.

“I just can’t do this anymore. I can’t.” Madison whispered.

“Hold it together Mattie Ann.” The usher led them into the waiting area. Madison took that moment to bee-lined to the open bar.

  “What can I get you?”

“Scotch. Hard please.” The bartender made her drink and slid it across the counter. She grabbed the glass and drunk it down.

  “Damn. Hard day?”

  “Try hard life.”

“Here’s another. I’ll go with ya.” He made two more drinks and they clicked tumblers. She started on her second drink.

“ATTENTION EVERYONE WE WILL HEAD IN NOW.”

“Well that’s my cue.” She gulped down the rest. “Thanks.” She slapped a $50 tip in the guy hands and gave him a wink. She sauntered off towards the door. She found her mother and sat down next to her.

  “Where you go?”

“To say hi.” She lied. Her mother would kill her if she knew she was drinking after she worked so hard to get her sober in time for this. The room darkened and the movie began to play. It was the shower scene, Madison hated doing at first. Great! She groaned inward. A shower. Ty. How they made love in it that time. It was coming back even though she didn’t want it to. The hot water rained down
on their entwined in the shower. The way he handled her so softly. He caressed her leg wrapped around him as he made love to her. She ran her hand along his back and pressed her breast against his tight chest. Her moans so delicate.

“Baby you look great up there.” Josefina whispered, bringing her back.

“Um...thanks.” The pain of his betrayal fresh again as she would never have him like that again. She turned her attention to the screen. The bank robbery scene. She managed to watch five minutes before remembering again. They were in her room. Ty had said something about or complaining about condoms. She had used the excuse about not wanting to be pregnant, but she didn’t want that notion to cross Ty’s mind due to the fact she couldn’t get pregnant. He saw how sad she got then gave her a hug, dropping the whole conversation. The next few words would haunt her. He asked for forgiveness. She replied by telling she always do and will always love him. She left memory lane. The last part would replay in her head every morning. Those words like knives that tore at her heart. “Mom...I’m going to the bathroom.”
