  Selected Singles

Singles is perhaps the department where it most bears reminding that this is a U.S. discography. Having said that, we’re starting with a Canadian one! Frankly, the singles story for Rush is pretty dull, given the complete lack of non-LP (studio) tracks from the lads. So, yeah, the debut single—two non-LP tracks, but Canadian—is a major discography item, and then after that it gets pretty workmanlike.

A further note: For the vinyl era, I’ve included all commercial U.S. releases, but only select promos, as some of the promos are slight variations upon each other or slight variations on the official release (beginning with same catalog number). “PS” denotes picture sleeve. Once we get into the CD age, it switches over to promos exclusively, as the commercial CD single format in North America was rarely exploited (and not at all by Rush), versus, say, the U.K. and the EU with their slim-line EPs. I think it was still a useful exercise, however, because it demonstrates the tracks that were being pushed at radio. Again, I’ve excluded a few that seemed repetitious or in the slight variation category, as well as CDRs.
