Hunters of the Gods 4: Belonging to a Pack

Avi is working for the gods and trying to help other women like herself displaced from their original packs. The last thing she expects is to join one of the largest packs around and also be the mate to three of their Alphas.

One of the few friends she has is Buschool, the vampire. She saved his life and he watched over her, so when he is caught by a witch and held captive, it isn't until he is out of danger that she realizes their bond is stronger then friendship and may cause a problem with her wolf mates. Sometimes it takes the power of the mating bond to bring out a wolf's full powers.

As Avi realizes who she is and how capable, she sets out to not only free the women and children who are being forced to do the unthinkable, but also find them a place to live, a safety they can count on, and a pack to truly belong to.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

People seem to be more interested in my name than where I get my ideas for my stories from. So I might as well share the story behind my name with all my readers.

My momma was born and raised in New Orleans. At the age of twenty, she met and fell in love with an Irishman named Patrick Riley Dwyer. Needless to say, the family was a bit taken aback by this as they hoped she would marry a family friend. It was a modern day arranged marriage kind of thing and my momma downright refused.

Being that my momma’s families were descendants of the original English speaking Southerners, they wanted the family blood line to stay pure. They were wealthy and my father’s family was poor.

Despite attempts by my grandpapa to make Patrick leave and destroy the love between them, my parents married. They recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.

I am one of six children born to Patrick and Lynn Dwyer. I am a combination of both Irish and a true Southern belle. With a name like Dixie Lynn Dwyer it’s no wonder why people are curious about my name.

Just as my parents had a love story of their own, I grew up intrigued by the lifestyles of others. My imagination as well as my need to stray from the straight and narrow made me into the woman I am today.

Enjoy Belonging to a Pack and allow your imagination to soar freely.

  Prologue

“No one is coming for you. You aren’t as important to them as you think. In fact, perhaps my friends and I should help you pass the time by seeing what you’re hiding under those clothes. For a tiny thing, you sure are filled out nicely.”

Avi growled low and showed her incisors as she moved her arms and felt the instant pain. They had her shackled to the walls, so she couldn’t shift or escape. On top of that, her cage was small, cramped, and she hadn’t stood up in so long. Why they even let her use a bathroom once a day, she didn’t know. Not that she was complaining about that. It would be worse if they didn’t let her out at all. Savages. Rogue savages working for who, she wasn’t certain, but she would find out. She heard bits and pieces of things. Rogues were dumb.

The one rogue wolf chuckled, that distorted face of his asking to be ripped off his shoulders. When she got the chance, she would kill him. His friends, too, the stinky rogue dogs. She leaned back as he chuckled and walked away, but not before rattling her cage and making her body move, causing more pains in her arms. She groaned, and his laughter grew louder. He turned back quickly, shocking her with his swiftness. He pressed his face to the bars.

“When you’re not looking, maybe when you fall asleep in exhaustion, I’ll come in there and we’ll play.” He stuck out his tongue and wiggled it in a disgusting, degrading manner.

She was scared, and there was no hiding that. Shackled like this, and a bit beaten up from her multiple attempts at escaping, made fighting back impossible now.

She narrowed her eyes at him, and he licked his lips then walked away. Time was running out. She felt it. Why had they taken her? Was it because of the work she did to help protect Saint pack and Keuric pack? Her mind immediately went to the Alphas. Tears filled her eyes. Bider, Viper and Scor were huge, and gorgeous in a rugged, masculine way that instantly did something to her body. Viper particularly, was intense and commanding. A true Alpha leader, him and his brothers made their presence known wherever they were. It was a bit intimidating, especially for someone as petite as she was. However, the desire, the attraction to them, was greater than those fears. She couldn’t help but wonder though, if they were her mates, would they be good to her? The things she saw in her old pack, the reasons why her parents were forced to leave, to escape for a better life, made the idea of being mated to wolves, feel uncertain. She knew better though than to resist them. They were super superior wolves, belonging to Keuric pack, and related to Saint pack. Those were two packs that she had been helping for the last couple of years. If this was a sign of what was to come, she didn’t know, but she would be ready. She had to be, it was better than
being alone, and dying here in a cage, or forced to mate against her will.

How unfair was this situation? To have met her mates one second and the next be taken. Perhaps it was just a deep attraction to them? She was tiny, and they were her Alphas, her mates. By the gods that was crazy. To find that out the moment they appeared, ready to battle with her. She had sacrificed so much over the years. Never having a family, a true place to set roots down, and only having the messages from the gods of what her job, her place was in this realm. To do whatever was necessary to protect the Keuric and Saint packs, to help unite families torn apart by the recent violence and attacks, and ultimately bring together both Shay and Merker pack members displaced by the violence.

She made many friends along the way. The wolves in Merker and Shay pack respected her, and they followed her direction. Could the gods intend for her to unite them into Saint and Keuric packs as new members? Would Saint, and Keuric packs accept the thousands upon thousands of wolves with Merker and Shay bloodline in them? How could they trust these wolves? She sure didn’t trust them to the extent of allowing them close to the head Alphas or their family and their Alphas like in Keuric pack. Alexandra, Alyssa, and even Luna. The gods definitely were preparing them all for something, and by the way these bonds were happening and the combinations, too, Avi wasn’t sure she could handle such a responsibility. How could she help ensure that wolves were honest and truly supported the Keuric and Saint pack Alphas? Was that why she was chosen to be the Alphas’ mate?

She swallowed hard. She had been alone for so long. Displaced from her pack as they were forced to separate as the Alphas fought one another. Avi learned about disloyalty and had been lacking in trust, but then the gods answered her prayers. She begged to be part of something better. Something great and to not give up on her because of her size, or her unfortunate position of not belonging to a certain pack. It hadn’t been her fault. Her parents made the decision to leave and then the news hit them. Her mother hadn’t been loyal to her father at all. Avi learned that they really weren’t mates, but were forced into a marriage to help bind Shay and Merker pack. The Alphas of Shay, Collink and Mosek were monsters.

That thought made her feel like she was partially a rogue. Her blood mixed with two packs that truly didn’t respect the laws and regulations of the wolves and of the Circle of Elders. Avi always felt different. She never really felt connected to her parents. Either of them, and for some reason, two of the Alpha’s sons from Shay pack sought her out, and she barely got out of there before they forced her to mate with them.

Her stomach ached, and she feared for several moments that it could be them who were behind her abduction. It had been more than a week though. Why wouldn’t they show their faces or make a move? She felt emotional. She wouldn’t come this far to be taken right back to a pack, a lifestyle, a prison sentence she fought so hard to get away from. Collink and Mosek Shay were just as evil as their fathers, Case and Gate. Those men had multiple female wolves as mates or wives, whatever they choose to believe.

By the gods, don’t let that happen to me. I need to escape. Help me find a way to do this.

  Chapter One

The roar echoed in the workout room followed by a loud “thump”.

“What the fuck, Viper? I thought we were just practicing.”

Viper was bouncing in his ready position with his hands up, prepared to counter Scor’s shot as Scor jumped up without using his hands and then retaliated. Viper hadn’t meant to be so rough, but he hadn’t been the same since Avi disappeared. His wolf was always so close to the surface. It was hard keeping it under control. Every time they came up with some sort of potential sighting or clue and got their hopes up, it turned to shit.

“Grr.” He growled low as Scor jabbed him in the stomach and then shoved him back. “No daydreaming.” He reprimanded Viper and Viper came at him, and they both countered every move until Bider came up from behind and joined in. Now it was a three-way, and Viper got hit with a kidney shot from Bider.

They continued on the rampage, drawing a little crowd of other wolves in the pack, soldiers that worked out there, until they finally had their fill. As they walked off the mats, giving other wolves the opportunity to sharpen their moves, Viper grabbed a towel and wiped his face. As he did, he stretched to the side, the aftereffects of Biden’s sneaky shock still hurting him, as well as Scor’s cheap jab to his gut.

His brothers were quiet, even more than usual. He couldn’t believe how affected they were by not having Avi. They knew very little about her, and what they did know made the fact that’s he was their mate seem odd. The fact she was connected to Merker pack was one thing, but to Shay? That would surely cause some problems. The Shay pack recently did some unethical things to secure their position. Preston and his brothers, as well as their cousins, were investigating the Alphas of Shay pack as potential suspects in the recent attacks on other packs and abduction of females and children.

His cell phone rang, and he reached over to answer the call. “Hey, get to the estate within the hour. We may have some leads for us to investigate with a little assistance,” Corporal told him.

“Assistance from who, and information on what?”

“Maybe the other way around. Information on Avi and who may be holding her, and information from Buschool.”

“That fucking vamp? I don’t like it. I don’t trust him.”

“Well, we don’t have many options. He was friends with Avi. He’s doing everything he can to help find her. Cable’t and Preston are being sent by Alexandra,” Corporal said to him.

  “Shit.”

  “Exactly.”

  “We’ll be there.”

  * * * *

  “You’re not being honest.”

“What do you mean?” Buschool replied.

“I mean there is obviously more between you and her, so what is it?” Cab pushed for answers.

Buschool stared at him with a fierce, defiant expression. “Is that wolf mate of yours making you soft?”

  “What?” Cable’t asked.

“Bloodletters in our positions don’t discuss anything personal.”

Buschool stared at him, and Cable’t could sense his anger, the cold dark ways of any vamp.

“You’ve always been a prick, but surely you see the powers of the gods have deemed both of us to be part of these weres’ lives.”

“Part of their battle, because the evil attached to it, may affect all of us.”

“How does it affect you, Buschool? A bloodletter with no loyalty or bond with any shifter or species?”

  “Says who?”

Cable’t exhaled. “We are not friends, but we are not enemies, either. Avi belongs to Viper, Bider, and Scor, and they do not like you or trust you one bit.”

“Do I look like I care? My loyalty is to Avi. I don’t need a reminder that she is mate to those foul wolves.” He snarled.

“You are in their territory. You asked for this meeting. Now do you have something for them, so they can find Avi or what?”

“I have a means to possibly finding her.”

Cable’t squinted at him, unsure what exactly was the game this vamp was playing.

“We meet them in the carriage house.”

“No welcome into their home? Hmm, not exactly a respectful show of trust.”

  “Trust is earned, Buschool.”

Cable’t walked with him through the darkness of the night and toward the carriage house. When they got to the doors, Preston opened them, as Cable’t spoke to him through their mind link.

Bider, Viper, and Scor narrowed their eyes. Preston, Puello, and Galvin nodded their head.

  “Welcome,” Preston said.

“Thought we’d meet at the house. Afraid to invite me into your home, Alpha?” Buschool asked.

“Not at all, just thought it was better no one sees us talking to you. Just as Cable’t keeps himself in hiding, as well,” Preston said.

“They’re training you already, vamp, when
you’re the one with more power,” Buschool said to them.

“You can leave right now, vamp. We don’t trust you anyway. We agreed to this because of Alexandra,” Viper snapped at Buschool.

“Ahh, so it’s the sexy Fae wolf who holds the control over all of you. Interesting. She is quite lovely, and tasty I’m sure.” Preston stepped forward and Cable’t raised his palm up.

“Don’t let him bait you,” Cable’t said to him.

“What is this all about? Some trick?” Scor said to Buschool.

“No tricks, just getting a feel for your commitment to this and to finding Avi.”

“She’s our mate, what do you think?” Bider snapped at him.

“That the gods are fools, and such arrogant, uncultured animals as yourselves don’t belong with her. She is sweet, feminine, petite and has a full heart, and a warrior’s spirit,” Buschool said to him.

“How do you know her so well? What’s your relationship with Avi?” Scor asked.

Buschool looked him over and Cable’t hoped the vamp didn’t continue to antagonize these wolves.

“You want to know if I’ve tasted her blood, or—”

Viper gripped Buschool by his throat and roared. Buschool enlarged a bit taller and his eyes turned red, and Cable’t, Preston, and the others stepped in.

“No fighting. We need to be civilized,” Preston commanded.

Viper shoved at his throat and stepped back, but Buschool didn’t even move. He fixed his collar and then looked at them.

“Avi separated from her pack, Shay, at a young age. Her parents left in order to save her and to have a better life. As you may recall, the Shay Alphas, narcissistic fucks, Case and Gate, basically attacked the Alphas of Merker pack, assisting in destroying them from within. Many families were forced to leave, some were grateful for the chaos and took the opportunity to escape,” Buschool told them.
