Fiery Match Page 1

by Tierney O’Malley

When two hearts connect, it doesn’t matter what planet they came.

The green-eyed alien would make her trust again…

He could take any woman on earth at will. Then Cor of Rhyn found the entrancing Nikka. Her indifference, beauty, and effect on him proved that she's the one he'd been looking for. She was the answer to his mission. But how could he make her accept him--an alien? If it took him more years on earth to make her agree to trust an alien that turns green, he would wait--even if it cost him his entire race.

The softhearted beauty that captured an alien…

Nikka was fooled by a man once. She wouldn't let another fool her again. When a gorgeous man asked her out on their first meeting, she told him to go away. She couldn't trust the green-eyed handsome and put her heart at risk again. Worse, he declared that he was an alien. And yet, when he touched her, she failed to fight the passions that broke the steel she wrapped around her heart.

  Fiery Match

  A Rhynian Story

  By

  Tierney O’Malley

  Dedication

  For Tom

  Chapter One

  It is time.

Cor sat in his usual spot. He looked across the street and spotted Nikka through the window. She was watching him.

  He smiled.

She stared. This time, though, she didn’t look away and disappear somewhere inside her store. Wow. That was new. Progress? He damned hope so.

He leaned back on the chair and rested his ankle on top of the other, his eyes never leaving the Pink Petals flower shop across the street for more than a minute.

He’d been watching Nikka for weeks now since he spotted her unloading buckets of flowers from her old truck. At the time, she was wearing jeans, white tank top, and slip-ons.

Infatuation, crush, puppy love, or obsession. Humans would probably use those words to describe how he felt toward Nikka. To him, though, it was a sign—that he finally found his match. To prove it, though, wouldn’t be easy. Turning green was just the first step. To make Nikka believe that he was an alien and then make love with him while holding his searing necklace…Damn. How in the world did his brother, Kyr, even manage to convince Jade to do that?

Kyr had found his soul mate, Jade. It took him three years, but he did find her. The great thing about their story was that they fell in love with each other almost instantly. Hard to top that.

Now, they await the arrival of their first child, which was the very same reason why he came here to earth. To have his own child

Unlike his brother though, the only woman who could give him a boner and turn his color green had been avoiding him as if he ranked with BO. For some odd reason, Nikka didn’t like him at first sight. She scowled when he introduced himself and he thought she would skewer him with her scissors when he asked her out. Since then, she would pretend he wasn’t even in her store whenever he tried to converse with her. Fuck, he couldn’t understand why.

He’d never been in a situation like this before. To get laid, find a date, or get a woman’s attention, all he had to do was look at the woman. His charm, this time, didn’t work with Nikka.

No woman ever found him so repulsive where she actually hurt his ego. However, her rejection wasn’t enough reason for him to go back to his planet Rhyn.

It had been two years since his father gave him the go to come to Earth and follow Kyr. Just like his brothers, he had one mission—find a woman who would carry his seed to keep the Rhynians race from extinction. He and his brothers were among the few given the task.

At the time, he believed his mission to be simple. Hell, how hard could it be to mate with a woman, right? Here on Earth or in Rhyn, a prelude to making love was the same—a smile, subtle flirtation, sweet caress…oh yeah. Those things were enough to get a woman naked. Unfortunately, even with a woman’s mouth wrapped around his dick, or sucking another woman’s breasts, none of them had made him turn green.

No. None of them had any effects on him. Just the need to fuck.

  Until Nikka.

Ah. Even her name could give him a boner. Cor felt his skin tingle. He looked at his hand. Sure enough, he started to turn green. Quickly, he suppressed his desire lest humans would notice him. He must do something. Soon. His father had been waiting, and his need to have Nikka grew each day.

  Nikka, baby. I need you.

Blue sparkling eyes that could shoot fire when annoyed, dark hair that she constantly tied in a bun, facial bones that were delicately carved and full rosy mouth that he wanted to nibble on had kept him awake for nights now. Nikka wasn’t a great beauty, but oozing with fucking sex appeal, he couldn’t stop thinking about making love with her.

Damn. Wouldn’t that be nice if he could lay with her until the sun rose?

He might not get lucky like Kyr to find love in such a short time, but if he could convince Nikka to agree to his proposal, that would be great. He would offer her a fortune big enough to match all the rich men in the world combined in exchange of becoming a mother of his child. When that happened, his job here on Earth would be done and he could go back to Rhyn, work beside his father, defend his planet, and help clean it by getting rid of the fucking greedy rats who had cost many Rhynians’ lives.

Rhyn, a planet he loved and would continue to defend suffered in the hands of Orkinians from the planet Orkin. The smelly and pasty bastards, jealous of Rhyn’s success, penetrated their defenses by pretending to agree to a truce. The sons of bitches made sure they killed all women and children.

Led by his father, they fought a bloody battle that lasted longer than they had expected. Strong and better-trained soldiers, they had managed to drive the Orkinians out of Rhyn, but not until after many lives were lost and only a few men had survived.

It didn’t take long before the council leaders realized the significance of the number of deaths. Almost all child-bearing women and children were killed. The Orkinians meant to wipe them out, and had nearly succeeded on their first attack.

With Rhynians on the verge of extinction, his father and the other leaders had thought of a way to save their race—send men to Earth to find their match. Keep the blood of Rhynians alive through women on Earth.

  And Cor wouldn’t disappoint him.

Fuck. He must not botch his chance with Nikka. Cor took a pen from his back pocket. On the table he spread the napkin that he snagged from the coffee shop.

With the pen poised over the napkin, he thought about Jade’s advice. Hopefully, it would help him get passed Nikka’s inv
isible barricade.

His sister in-law said telling a woman she was beautiful and asking her out on their first meeting was his mistake. But she also said that if a woman said no, she actually meant yes. If she said that’s okay, be warned. She was thinking hard about how to make you pay for your mistake.

Not only that, but Jade put a totally different meaning to the word whatever. So, if Nikka showed disinterest in him, it meant the opposite. Jade also added that watching Nikka from afar was a brilliant move. Because once he stopped showing up she would wonder why and would look for him.

His sister in-law’s explanation about a woman’s mind nearly gave him a migraine. His brothers, Syd and Sky, however, laughed.

Syd, was right. Deciphering a woman’s brain was tougher than solving Rhyn’s crisis. In Sky’s opinion, a woman’s brain didn’t need deciphering. Just put your head in between her legs, and she’d say whatever you want to hear.

They laughed at that. Despite all the fun though, they all knew their father sent them here to Earth because he believed in them. Kyr proved the task to be doable, and there were perks, too. Oh, yeah. Women may be as tough as an ancient pyramid—complex, hard to break and open, but once you were inside, there were treasures to be had.

Now, what to write. Think. Think.

  “How are you, son?”

Cor looked up. He smiled at the elderly couple about to go in the coffee shop. They were a regular here.

The way they were looking at him, he could tell they were wondering what he was doing loitering outside the coffee shop.

  “I’m good. How are you?”

“Oh, just having a good walk in this rare warm Seattle weather,” the older man said, his hand still on his wife’s elbow.

“Isn’t it a beautiful day?” The woman took a deep breath. “We’re lucky to have this kind of weather to enjoy.”

“We are.” People in Seattle, Cor learned, loved, and appreciated sunshine as much as they loved their coffee.

The man pointed at his pen. “You were so deep in thought. I hope you’re not contemplating anything stupid.”

“Not stupid, but…” Cor glanced at the shop across the street. He could see Nikka through the glass window talking to her customers. “Wise and for the good of a planet.”

“Thought so. Well, son, you should just pack up the courage and cross the street if you want to help a planet. There is nothing worse than letting time pass you by.” The man patted the woman’s hand.

Cor knew everything about time. And he’d wasted enough of it here on earth trying to find his match.

“That beautiful woman across the street.” The man tipped his head in Nikka’s direction. “Isn’t she the reason why you’ve been hanging out here every day?”

Cor laughed. “She is beautiful, isn’t she?”

“Yes. So you’d better act before someone else snatches her.”

I’ll smash the man’s face that tries to go near Nikka, he thought. “I tried. But I think I did it wrong.”

“Did it wrong? How?” the woman asked.

“I introduced myself, told her she’s beautiful, and then asked her out.”

“Without preamble, without flowery words, without knowing her, first. Oh, dear. You must have given her a bad impression.”

“Ah. Well, son.” The old man tucked his hand in his pocket. “That’s easily fixed. If you really want her, don’t let one slip-up stop you. I’ve made a mistake before and regretted it for years. You see, I fell in love with a woman when I was younger, but I was so dumb then and gave other matters importance. She married someone and I watched her from a distance. I regretted not telling her how much I loved her. So many years passed by before another chance to let her know that I love her came.”

“I take it you took the chance.”

His smile showed what was in his heart. “Damn right, son. Now, I have her. We’ve lost so many times, but we’re catching up.” He looked at the blushing woman who held hands with him. “I’ll make sure I spend every single minute with her. I’ve been given another chance. I’ll make damn sure I don’t waste it. There is no better time than now. Remember that.”

The two went inside the coffee shop with stars in their eyes. Cor wondered if the man would still encourage him to cross the street if he knew Cor’s true intention—to use Nikka to keep his race from extinction. However, the old man was right about one thing. There was no good time than the present.

He scribbled the words that came to his mind on the napkin.

Finishing his coffee, he stood up and then tossed the empty cup in the bin.

  It’s time.

  Chapter Two

  Oh, my. He’s here again.

Watching, always watching. Whenever she looked outside, even through the glass window, their eyes would meet. And each time, her heart would skip a beat and butterflies flitter in her stomach. Just like when she was a teenager seeing her crush, she felt warm glow flow through her. But her instinct warned her, too, not to get too close. Ugh!

At ten in the morning, Cor would occupy the chair outside the coffee shop. He would stay there for hours, his gaze fixed on her store like a hawk. It kind of unnerved her at first and then, silly her, she found herself looking forward to seeing him lounging on that chair. Well, hard not to since her shop, Pink Petals, was right across the street from the coffee shop. Besides, he was one beautiful specimen she could stare at forever.

Once in a while, he would talk to people, but she noticed that he would still glance at her shop as if making sure she did not disappear. So weird, really. Funny thing was, she liked it.

Nikka had been a recipient of hot guys’ attention, although most of them were jerks only interested in feeling her boobs.

Then Richard happened. He wooed her, pursued her relentlessly until she fell for him. It was too late when she realized his true intentions—to show his friends that he could make her sleep with him. Richard. God! She hated that name.

Richard, the only serious boyfriend she had sex with happened to be a dirty asshole. He’d hurt her physically and emotionally so badly she thought she’d never recover from it.

At one point in her life, she’d been such a gullible idiot to get swept away by flattery. Not anymore. Not after Richard.

Now Cor… he used flattery the first time they’d met. She became alarmed, but at the same time it roused her curiosity. There was something about him that she couldn’t really put her finger on. Even from the short distance he exuded a powerful aura that bordered on something dangerous. Yeah, he had that going. Aside from those things, he watched everyone like prey as if expecting someone or something to attack him.

Men, she noticed, would walk around him with wary looks, as if afraid to get near him, while women would walk back and forth trying everything to get his attention. One even pretended to trip and landed on top of him. He helped the woman, but that was it. He went back to watching her store, lounging like a model waiting for his picture to be taken.

Over six feet tall, looking delicious in his faded low rise jeans, he rode a wicked and sleek MV Augusta F4CC that he drove every day that most likely cost more than her store and life insurance, and his wavy blond hair that passed the base of his neck could make any one lose their manners and stare at him.

But it was his eyes—the most beautiful green eyes she’d ever seen—spoke intelligence. And when he smiled…Lord, he could melt any woman’s bones in her body. Yeah, he had that going. She’d bet her store he could have any woman he wanted. After all, who would say no to a package like that. Lord, all she wanted to do was rub herself all over him while drooling.

Nikka laughed to herself. She sounded like a rabid dog in heat. Between two vases of flowers, she stole a glance at Cor. She was so put off when he asked her out five minutes after he stepped in her store that she scowled and told him not to come back. But since then, he started sitting on the chair across the street watching. So creepy, but deliciously creepy. Ugh! s
top, brain. She shouldn’t feel this way.

Sweet pea! The man was driving her nuts. She couldn’t work without looking across the street every damn five minutes.

Lately, she’d been getting up before her alarm went off in the morning so she could spend more time getting ready. She even used her new makeup kit just because she wanted to look pretty in case he would cross the street again to see her. Worse, she began having fantasies about them making love. Each time got hotter and hotter. Her thoughts filled with wicked ways a couple could do it in bed.

Oh, God. How many times had she imagined Cor’s mouth on her clit, sucking her hard, making her come while his hands squeezed her breasts? Too many times to count.

Whether she admitted it or not, Cor had become an obsession. Lord, her attraction grew each day and now she would be willing to throw caution away just to have a little sampling of him.

But what was he waiting for? If he were serious about asking her out, why not come back and ask her again? If he did, would she say yes? Gah!

Feeling her body temperature rising, she picked up a bucket of white roses, walked around the counter, then stood in front of the window where she had a row of buckets filled with assorted flowers neatly arranged.

Her friend, Samuel, who lived in the apartment behind the store, believed that Cor had the hots for her. Now, there lies the problem. She didn’t want a man to pay attention to her simply because he had the hots for her. She’d met a number of those men to last her a lifetime. She wanted a man to see her without thinking about sex, to see her as a woman with feelings and not just a body.

Was that how Cor saw her? An object?

Cor must have had been used to women falling for him in a hurry. All he had to do was ask the woman out and he’d have her in his bed. No wooing, no flowers, no movies. Yeah, he probably expected that. He wouldn’t ask her out the first time he walked in her store if he wasn’t used to getting any women he wanted.
