Moon Wreck: Fleet Academy (The Slaver Wars) Page 30

“I’m glad you were able to talk her into it. I think once she gets there and the two of you get settled in, she will love it. The Federation survivors have a lot to offer.”

“General Greene will be taking over my job down on Earth,” Greg added as he looked out over the crater and at the Avenger. “What are you going to do about Jeremy?”

“Jeremy is being reassigned to a Federation light cruiser to finish his officer’s training; after that we’ll see.”

  “What about the other cadets?”

“Same thing, except for Kelsey. Her father wants her to stay on Ceres for a while before she is reassigned. I suspect she is going to demand to be close to Jeremy.”

“Those two make a fine couple,” Greg responded with a knowing laugh.

“They will also both make a fine pair of officers,” Jason calmly pointed out.

“What are you going to do, Jason?” Greg asked in a more serious tone. “I understand Admiral Anlon has offered to allow both Lisa and you to go into cryosleep and be part of the future war against the Hocklyns.”

Jason was silent for a long moment, then turning he looked over at his best friend. “My job is here, Greg,” he said in a somber voice. “The Columbia only returned last week from Tau Ceti bringing the news about the two habitable planets. I’ve already received numerous demands from Earth wanting to know when we can start building colony ships.”

“I saw the report about the Columbia not finding any trace of the New Horizon.”

“Yes, we’re telling everyone she is missing and may have suffered a catastrophic failure of her FTL drive core.”

“It looks as if you’re going to have a lot to do the next few years.”

Jason nodded as he looked back out over the crater with his eyes focusing on the Avenger. “We have to expand the spacedock and drastically increase the size of the academy. We’re also discussing moving up the timeline to reveal the presence of the Federation survivors and the Hocklyn menace. That may very well happen in the next ten to fifteen years.”

“Things are changing,” responded Greg, knowing how those revelations would affect everyone.

“Yes,” Jason replied as his eyes looked up to gaze at the unblinking stars. “The Hocklyns are still out there, and someday we will be facing their warships. Our job is to make sure we’re ready for that day.”

The two stood there for quite sometime in silence. They had been best friends since before the New Beginning’s mission and would continue to be for the rest of their lives.

In the Command Center of the Avenger, Ariel turned off the main viewscreen, which had been focused on the two men on top of the distant ridge. She had been listening to their conversation with interest.

Katie would be returning shortly, and while Ariel wouldn’t be able to talk to her on the Avenger, she had already made some special arrangements with Clarissa on Ceres. The two AIs were going to set up a communication line for Ariel to talk to the young teenager on a regular basis.

For some time now, Ariel hadn’t felt so alone. Lisa and she had discussed her future role with the children, and Lisa had agreed that from now on Ariel would be a part of all of the children’s lives. This particularly pleased Ariel as she had secretly looked at Lisa’s latest doctor’s report. Lisa was three months pregnant and had not told anyone yet. Ariel smiled to herself. She was already making plans on how she would introduce herself to this next special child.

  The End

If you enjoyed Moon Wreck: Fleet Academy and want the series to continue in the Slaver Wars, please post a review with some stars. Good reviews encourage an author to write and help books to sell. Reviews can be just a few short sentences describing what you liked about the book. If you have suggestions, please contact me at my website listed on the following page. Thank you for reading Fleet Academy and being so supportive. Current plans call for the Slaver Wars series to be a trilogy. If the positive reviews continue, the series could be expanded to five books. The next full-length novel in the Slaver Wars series will deal with Earth’s first contact with the Hocklyns. It will be action packed and fast moving.

  The Slaver Wars: First Strike

The cryosleep chambers are beginning to fail. Surveillance of Hocklyn space has revealed that the Hocklyns are thirty years ahead of their projected schedule and will soon reach human occupied space. War could break out any day if something isn’t done. The human leaders suggest a daring plan to buy them additional time to strengthen the Fleet, as well as the defenses guarding their worlds. A First Strike deep into Hocklyn space might just buy the human worlds the extra time they need to finish their preparations for all out war against the Hocklyn Slave Empire.

Books in the series should be read in the following order.

The Slaver Wars: Alien Contact (Novel)

Moon Wreck: First Contact (Short Story)

  Moon Wreck: Revelations (Short Story)

Moon Wreck: Secrets of Ceres (Short Story)

  Moon Wreck: Fleet Academy (Novel)

The Slaver Wars: First Strike (Novel)

Turn the page for a quick description of Star One: Neutron Star and Moon Wreck: First Contact

  Star One: Neutron Star

It is the year 2044 on Earth. At the Farside observatory complex on the Moon, a startling astronomical discovery has been made. A survey for pulsars has found an x-ray source in a region of space where none has been detected before.

Upon further investigation, they find that this x-ray source is just outside of the solar system. The astronomers are paralyzed by what they have found knowing what its disastrous ramifications might be.

A neutron star is approaching the solar system. It appeared out of a small dust cloud that was shielding its approach. Armageddon has arrived; the star is on a trajectory that will take it through the center of the solar system. Life on Earth will not survive its passing.

The only hope for survival will be on the massive Star One space station at the Earth-Moon Lagrange point or possibly in Tycho City deep beneath the Moon's surface. It will be a race against time to save a fraction of the Earth's frightened population.

A power struggle will erupt on Earth over who is to survive. On Star One and at Tycho City they prepare for the worst, unfortunately, the threat from Earth might be just as dangerous as the approaching neutron star.
