  Acknowledgements

I have to begin by thanking John Petrie, my wonderful husband, for reading and commenting in detail on the various drafts of ‘Too Many Heroes’ and also for sharing some of his knowledge of WW2 aeroplanes and many other technical matters. Without his encouragement this book might never have been finished.

Thanks also go to the rest of my family – in particular my lovely daughters Laila and Natalie – for their continued love and support. Special thanks also go to my delightful son-in-law, Ed, for his advice on some of the medical details. I shall always be grateful to my parents Pearl Turk and the late Sidney Turk for sharing their experiences of wartime as well as the immediate post-war period with us children.

As always, the feedback and encouragement from my fellow Catchword writers in Cirencester proved invaluable to this project. Early feedback from Lise Leroux and other members of the Cheltenham Novel Writing Group spurred me on as did the ladies of the highly talented Wild Women Writers. I’d also like to thank Debbie Young and everyone in the Alliance of Independent Authors (Alli) group in Cheltenham for their impressive knowledge and collective advice.

Lastly, I’m very grateful to my editor and proofreader Johnny Hudspith, and to my cover designer, Jane Dixon-Smith, for their consistently excellent work.
